  • To animate a dialogue shot, I work in 3 stages. I also start by blocking 3 mouth controls, but there's a difference. This is my lipsync animation workflow!

    My dilemma with lip syncing is that I work with anime style characters, and in a lot of anime styles the jaw doesn't move, so I'm not sure if I should move it or not.

    • @arttrixmix7178
      @arttrixmix7178 4 года назад +10

      maybe you can move it but only a little bit, it would be enough for it to not look jarring but not enough that it actually sticks out to people that the jaw’s moving

    • @ampdarts850
      @ampdarts850 2 года назад +2

      sounds like its up to you! do whatever you think looks good. even though anime characters dont really move their jaws, that doesnt mean u cant do it yourself! You can use that as something to set yourself apart from other anime styles. or maybe only move the jaw when the character isnt facing the audience or when they are in profile. its all up to you c:

    Could we get a informative video about blocking mouth shapes? I see these sheets with AH EE TH/V and i *sorta* understand what it means, but i dont know how to define what shape goes where with audio, i dontr know what timing i need, or how to even start with mouths to avoid posing every sound in the audio. Whats the most and least shapes i would need (not including single flap animations)

    I find the fastest way too create lipsync animations is too import your model into unity, use lipsync assets to create animations (lipsync pro gives best results) and then import the created animations into Maya and use it as a starting point. This has dramatically increased the efficiency of my workflow.

    Did something change or doesn‘t Autodesk check it?

    I like a lot of what you say, except for making the mouth act toward the camera. This is what makes the Overwatch movies insufferable - every single sentence ends with a dreamworks face. It's unnatural and takes me out of it. I also gather this results in character designs trending toward smooth, flat, uniform face shapes that lend to it. I notice those examples you showed of Grimmel has his mouth acting *away* from the camera, exposing the silhouettes and better utilizing the medium.
