At the start of this year's Euros a Dutch coach said in an interview that every coach would want this England squad. World cup quarter and semi finalist , back to back European finalists. Southgate did a fantastic job, Tuchel just have to get that extra 5% out of them. It's just embarrassing that this narrative over took the official announcement. I am very excited for Tuchel to start in January.
My respect for carragher just grew tremendously. He just changed my opinion on the international game. This was a masterclass on presenting what you know is an unpopular take. Country's best vs country's best, 1-11 + coach. A key differentiator of club vs country.
I completely agree with Jamie. The manager is an integral part of the team, in International Football it should be mandatory that the manager is of the country the team represents.
It is entirely reasonable to hold Carragher's position AND also believe that England does not produce excellent managers, so Tuchel is our best choice at the moment. People in the comments acting like it's outrageous + unbelievable to think that a manager of a country should also be from that country.
I disagree with Carragher but it's a fair argument, it comes down to what you think international football is. He views it from manager to players representing a nation...can't say he's wrong. I just don't hold the same principles.
