for some reason I got the same result without the CATs plugin (found out why the headphones I made gave me grief; required recalculating faces)
Out of curiousity, what is the plugin used for? Would it be required when throwing it in VRChat?

Yes, if you'd like to make a vroid model or any model from blender to vrchat, you need the cats plugin.

If they're static, yes. If dynamic then I'm not so sure but you can try.
