Special thanks to Mikey Alridge for coming along to shoot the video 🎥 We met Mikey on the first week in Ireland 🇮🇪 when he was shooting a music video for his band “Future Lows” 🎶 🎸 Go check them out on RUclips and Spotify!
Also worth noting that it is about 5km walk from Wicklow train station and between Wicklow Town and Brittas Bay - which is a lovely beach (if trying to help Dubliners visualise the location)
I feel bad for the guy who short-roped Robbie. That belay station looks fucking terrible and the ocean spray probably made feeding out the rope way harder lol
Oh yeah it was totally crap haha but as I said on the video, I was glad he did. I was pumped and it kinda saved me as it forced me to downclimb and rest again.
Haha fair play. I quite like the music. Tbh though, you wouldn’t have enjoyed just the natural audio… it was just really bad audio caused by blasting wind across the mic.
That is the tazlov3! Yeah that’s all I use now for working routes on a fixed line. I have a video planned to make for rope solo, tbh it’s not very complicated my setup - I just use the taz on its own with a knot below me and obvs a few tricks to make working it easier (especially on steep ground)
Amazing scene, great looking climb, has to be a harder but obvious line on that face for you to free. Whole mass of climbing videos came out in the last couple days, this is far and away the best.
@@JoBianco In my experience it's quite common that you can't see the climber on alpine multipitches (especially if they're not super hard / vertical / overhanging). Belaying by feel is possible, but it takes practice. Also if the rope is running over the rock in many places, edges, or if the route isn't has many "turns" that increases friction and creates rope drag, making sensory belaying harder. Gotta say belaying this route looks pretty challenging in general though :D
@@schnibbelschnibbel But how would you know when to give rope if you can't see? Would the climber have to yell rope? In the video Robbie was yelling slack, but it was after he needed to clip.
@@JoBianco it’s not easy to explain in a yt comment. Basically with a bit of slack and very slight tension with your non-brake hand, „pulling“ away from the climber ( not actually pulling though ), you can somewhat feel what’s going on. The small amount of slack then gives enough time to react in case of fall / clip. But this should be properly trained. It’s also a lot easier if you have a nice belay with space to move toward the wall.
Glad you asked… so apparently the guy who found it (Michael Duffy) spotted it on a helicopter survey being shown on a TV show (I think). After a quick google of the place, he went down there to take a look and saw the potential as a sport venue.

Great video! What an insane place to climb.
Great video! Ireland needs more sport climbing 🇮🇪
Sounds like it’s getting there

What’s up with the shitty music, should have left the noise of the wind and waves! Awesome climbing Robbie , keep sending!!!

Is that the Taz lov 3 you're using? I'd love to see a video on your process for how you use it to work hard sport routes!

That looks well Aberdeen!
A wee bit Orchestra cave-esque?
Classic Schist and exploding holds 😂 gutting!!!
Another banger mate! 💪🏻🔥👏🏻🤙🏻🏴
Wow what an amazing place! Such wild nature
Amazing the things you find to climb. Great stuff!
What a heartbreaker!!! Way to redeem it even though the batteries died.
Which device are you using for the top rope solo Robbie?
TazLov3 - Hoping to do a wee video of me using this soon
Thanks Robbie. I'd be really interested in a video on this, and I'm sure others would be too 👍
Insane location
I wonder with the proliferation of drones, how many more of these types of routes will be identified over the next few years.
Probably a lot! We use drones a lot for scoping out lines, looking for boulders and new cliffs. Amazing technology to have access to.

Aww thanks man!
Yeah there’s the 8c/+ there. Reckon I’ll look at that next year, and try and DWS the 8a+ 🤪
great video robbie. Production quality is up there. keep going!
Thanks mate!
Will you be back for the deep water solo Robbie?? :D
Yeah definitely! I go to Ireland every year with SCARPA work. Would be good to DWS the 8a+ next year if it’s warm
Great vid
Mannnnnnnnn that was crazy! Nice job Robbie!
Cheers Courtney!
Such an awesome video! one of the most impressive climbing vids Ive seen recently, always enjoy your new uploads!
Phwoar, that looks ace! Hard to tell from the vid but...would it go as DWS?!
It absolutely would! Ricky Bell did DWS the 7b+ just left of the 8a+. It would be a clean fall straight into the sea 🌊
@@RobbiePhillips ooh ya beauty! Psyched for that!
@@RemusKnowles Keen for a trip next year for sure!
DWS potential??
Absolutely!
Hate that you skip some clips but cool video and editing
Thanks man. What do you mean skipping clips? The uncut foootage would be 30-40mins haha 😂
mega
Question. Was he able to see you when belaying ? Great video
Thanks man. For the most part, yes. Think it gets a bit blind on the last few clips.
@@RobbiePhillips I wonder if that's why he was short roping you. I also wonder how it's possible to give a good belay if you can't see the climber

What's the song in the Top Rope Tough Guy section?
"Wildside" by St Society (feat Txsh)
@@RobbiePhillips Cheers mate, but the one after that -- from 2:00.
Gotta wonder how this kind of thing gets discovered and developed
