a lot of y'all don't realize the grizzlies have more injuries than than nearly every team in the NBA currently... players have missed a total of 22+ games so far for the grizzlies, more than double any team in the nba. marcus smart is about to come back, derrick rose is week to week with a hamstring, brandon clarke is aiming for a return before all star break, not to mention tillman has been hurt, addams out for the season after right before the start of the season because of his knee... can literally write a book with the game to game injury report. that still doesn't change the fact that they still have a shot for the playoffs as players get healthy, and teams have to adjust defensively for ja now, and how much that opens up the game for bane and jjj. the grizzlies are a completely different team now with ja back and with players getting healthy as the season goes on

They went 6-19 without Ja. Let's say they go 19-6 over the next 25 games which will put them at 25-25 with 32 games left. It's realistic that they go 20-12 and finish 45-37 and most definitely be in the 7-10 range. Ja can 100% will them to 1 win to get in if we're 7 or 8 and I'll say at least 51% chance of winning 2 games if we're 9 or 10. So as long as we're on pace to make the play-in I say GO FOR IT because not even the #1 pick in the draft will make the team any better than as already constructed. And the NBA has pulled some "coincidental" moves with the draft lottery since it's inception in 1985 so San Antonio, Chicago, Toronto, or Brooklyn is gonna get the #1 pick. I'd bet money on that.

No matter how u feel, Ja is truly important to the NBA. It is very important that he stays straight. There is a lot of talent and skill these days. But only certain personalities can be the actual face. Tatum, Zion, Trae, Brunson, etc aren't built to be the face. And no matter how good they are, the NBA doesn't want a euro or African dude be the face. They sell them more outside the country.

Gilbert hit the nail on the head: Grizzlies with Ja could posthumously be called "championship contenders" but given their track record for the last few years while Ja was there have shown they don't have what it takes to be champions. The key point here is that when Ja was gone, you truly see that Memphis is, at best, no better than teams actively trying to tank - so Ja, at best, can only take them so far and given how far back they are right now, getting into the playoffs isn't likely when they don't have that many deep playoff runs when they were a complete unit from the jump in past.
