You got this Dan, it hard to remember what you have already achieved when you start working on something new. We believe in you! Everyone give Dan some encouragement.
I tried, I hope it helps
Beats watching the WOKE Olympics, WOKE TV shows, and misguided BS the WOKE crowd are trying to shove down everyone’s eyes and throats. Bud Light, Target, and the other WOKEness companies can go swim in their used Bud Light. [off soap box] Go, Dan, Go - you deserve a gold medal for Chateaux repair.
Dan is so determined. I get frustrated just watching how he needs to work around challenges. Hope some extra hands come back soon to chip in!
+🤗❤️🌈🙏🕊️
Dan. You are one of the hardest-working people I know of. You have this and honestly, you are better than any home improvement show I have ever viewed ever. I find myself waiting for updates and dread the weekend when there aren't updates. I am learning so much from you inasmuch as how to do what you are doing. Thanks Dan.
Head down, and march. Don't look at the top of the mountain, focus on the trail. You got this.
So well said ❤❤
I really like that. I need to write that down ! 🤔
Better than the Olympics. There I said it. ❤
💯
Agreed!
Ageeed
Shovelling out the barn would be better than the Olympics. Yeah, this channels much more meaning full and family friendly.
YAAAAAAYYYYYY Team Dan !!!!
I can’t believe how hard you work!
99% of people would have waited for help.
I guess that’s why we all watch your videos.
I might be one of those people!
He's a man, we keep the world turning, 💪💪🔨🪓🌲🇮🇪🇮🇪
@@TheToolnut 🙄
99% of professional builders would use a crane or lift for that task, just saying. Those who need their bodies to generate an income for decades learn pretty quickly to take good care of it. Using things like leverage and momentum to move things around save you the pain of seeing your body deteriorate too quickly.
He is waiting for help, that’s why he isn’t getting it done.
Stay in the present moment. Keep the momentum going. You're close to the top and your head is out to get you. DON'T LISTEN TO IT. You've got all of us, plus your buddies there standing next to you. Get rest, eat well, have hope. We do!
Yes, Daniel the Father, The Gardner, The Chef, the Builder - you got this! Just think of your boys when they get older and see these videos:) They will be so proud of their dad!
Yes my late father built our mudbrick house in the 80’s here in the drought in Victoria, Australia and I only have a few photos and memories of it. Would love to see a video of him working 🥹
My granddad said you should shake something every day - meaning get something done no matter how little that might be - its all part of the progress.
Thats what keeps me going with the overgrown garden I restore.
One of my mantra's as well, slow progress is better than no progress
Dan, you scored really big in today's video. You caught a problem before it was a massive problem. Don't be so hard on yourself. Maybe you could work really early mornings. Get up before the chickens, do coffee, get yourself put together start on work when there is just enough light to see work until noon call it a day work in side on somethings. My auntie, used to get up at 4am had tea. Got herself and I together, and then we hit the gardens. We picked washed canned and weeded until noon every day. It was a slow process, but it worked. Come fall, we had a cellar full of yummy food, clean gardens, and beautiful flowers. All in triple digit heat, no air condition. You got this.
Good for you and good luck😊
It feels almost strange to see you working alone again Dan. Great job, keep it going! 👍👏
A lightning conductor is a great idea there seems to have been a lot of storms already this year across France.
I surely wish Dan had some help up there with those massive pieces of wood. A herniated disc will bring progress to a halt.
dan, i just wish i had your strenth and inteligence.
As someone who lives in the deep south of the US, I've seen the extreme temperatures in France this week. It is very easy to get overheated and face a medical emergency. If your body does not want to work as much, listen to it! It's not something you just want to push through.
I’m not religious Dan but every time I see you dragging those big pieces of wood reminds me of Jesus carrying his cross at Calvary you are amazing your spirit is never broken no matter what task you take on fantastic
Early mornings and late evenings are the best option in extreme heat. You don't want heat exhaustion, you are doing the right thing.
When I tree planted we got up at 3am and worked until 1pm to avoid the heat.
he is not going to wake up early, not a morning person...
Hi from Texas. It gets plenty hot here. When the temps are 100f and up, start at sun-up work till 1 or so, then go eat and nap. Then come back out as the temps start to fall in the evening.
@@johumm455bet he can't sleep I. Heat. He will adjust his work hrs.
Agreed. I got heat exhaustion and severe dehydration in college after a camping trip and it knocked me out for three damn months. I couldn't even get out of bed. It's really no joke. Glad you're staying out of the heat, Dan! Drink lots of water!
Well said John watching grass grow ,and paint dry ,watching Dan work is 100 times more interesting than the Olympics
Those beams must be like 30kg or something. Dan is a monster.
Yes and no Satanic rituals to watch!
@@kestutisbagusauskas8323 mate, it was Greek mythology. You know, the Olympics, Ancient Greece etc. way before man invented Satan.
I won’t even watch the shorts. It’s a shame for the athletes but even the 1992 Olympics had demonic themes how blind was I then?
We can do both surely?
Have never seen such sheer determined cussedness to continue a project forward as in this man. Way to go, Dan!
Unbelievable, isn't it !?
Dan the man
Difficult to get timber up where you need it, but again you’ve shown ….. where there’s a will, there’s a way. Good on our Dan
Dan, there isn't a person on the planet that deserves that beautiful building more than you do. What you're doing is wonderful.
You don't need to "man up" you're a Rockstar. Gold medalist.
Wabi-Sabi...perfect imperfection...
Don't man up so much that you end up with a man down.
Wow, the storm was wild. You’ve done well Dan considering the heat and the energy expelled bringing up the wood and the mental exertion of doing all the mathematical calculations and editing and producing the vlog. It’s very much appreciated ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
The mathematical calculations are purely fabrication setting out, what I would really like to see is the structural calcs and drawings that verify the roof design and section sizing.
Why? I am sure Dan knows what he's doing.
@clivewilliams3661
These videos are a relief from the world. thank you
Absolutely!!! I get lots of *relief* from watching these videos 🥰
Dan don’t beat yourself up about being unproductive in the heat, we all suffer that problem, just remember what a fantastic job you are doing & how far you have got to date. Thank you for letting us be with you on the journey 😊😊 Colin R
Love watching how you solve problems moving heavy/awkward stuff when you’re on your own
😊Dan, you’re AWESOME! It’s amazing to watch what you can do on your own! We are all so proud of you! 🥰👍🏼
Dan when it’s so hot, you’re working alone, it’s about to strike lightning ⚡️ and you’ve no conductor it’s time to call it a day man!
It’s really important those drawings and your plans are through and now’s a great time to spend checking them, in the shade, with a cold drink!
You deserve it.
The Chateau renovation is going brilliantly!
“When thunder roars, go indoors.”
Though not impossible, a lightning hit would be extremely unlikely. And really unlucky.
As you can see this is a young man’s game. As a ex bricklayer I’m Looking forward to the rebuilding of the tower.
Really looking forward to the masonry
No bricklayer here but I am looking forward to it too.
Not too long ago Dan fretted (again) about his brickwork not being 'professional'. Calvin came along later and 'complained' that Dan's latest brickwork was so perfect that it made him angry. ;)
Me too
Better a bad drawing than a leaking roof! Good you checked the measurements again, crack on Dan,,you got this! 🎉🎉❤
Dan I would rather see you safe and able to work then knowing you got heatstroke and was sick do to the temperature you’re having right now. Your health is very important. And it’s not like you’re only a few stories up, you’re at the top of a Château where it’s hotter than a couple of stories up. Please be smart and safe I’m one of your biggest fans 😊😊
The Olympics cannot even compare to this channel. I think this channel is the most prolific château restoration channel on RUclips. Well done, Dan.❤
I would love to see you taking a moment on a hot day like this to relax in the shade of your lovely garden with a refreshing drink. Your progress is amazing. You don't need to work every minute!
I agree fully.take the heat as a sign to rest, recharge and relax. Stay cool ❄️❄️❄️ when it’s very hot it can impact our thinking.
Slow and steady wins the race. One thing about working for yourself is you get to choose your own pace.♥️🙏😊
Dan, your whole drive is on another level . You are the human spirit on display.
Well, I won't tell you to man up, because I am 72 and know things. but slow pace, water and breaks will help you man up if you must.😶 Just want to say I am always amazed at this. You and this endeavour will take me into my really old age. looking forward to it!
i hope extreme heat is why we have not had any update for 3 days now, and that you are ok, Dan.
For all those who have lost homes to fires recently…this gives us hope that rebuilding is possible
this still had its bones …… but yes rebuilding is a can do
A house fire is everyone's room nightmare.May God bless you with courage.🎉
500k subscribers and a RUclips channel of over 4-5 years helps too 😆
@@EthanLomas Dan earned everyone of those!
@@donnaschmink1801 I’m not disputing that. Dan deserves all the success he has worked for. My point was that not everyone can rebuild their house after a fire ( such as in Hasper, BC) because not everyone has a RUclips channel with 500k subscribers 👍
The course you took many years ago on how to make videos is a game changer. Best you tuber and your talents are off the charts in so many ways! Always a joy to watch, inspirational, old fashion work ethic, plus humor! Dan, you the Man!!!
I'd be interested to know what the course was! I like Dan's video making :)
@@SamHarrisonMusic I think it was two and a half years ago : "Casey Neistat Filmmaking & Storytelling Course" (Im going to film school - EP179)
Praying for your safety as you struggle to get your materials up so high, alone! Will be glad for you when the fellas come back to help!
Brilliant a usual. I’m an old builder also called Dan, who has done lots of building in France in the past. If you have any more beams to get up to that roof. The “trick” is to have something elevated (pile of pallets, beam off cuts etc) rest the beams end up un that pile. Then when you get to the upper section, the centre point of the beam should be closer to the upper floor. Then you can pull it over easier. (Fulcrum or something like that) This is just a helpful hint I hope. I really don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. You’re great. Just trying to save your back. As I said earlier. I’m an old builder, but feeling older than I should in the back department.
Morning Dan.
Hope all is well there , just missing you and your chateau 😊
How you don’t have a million splinters is another miracle. ❤❤❤
working! he's been growing thick skin.
Упорный,упрямый,талантливый Дэн.Береги себя.❤
I hope this message is helpful to you. I watch you every day from Argentina, and you help me keep going and enjoy construction!
Goodness Dan you are absolutely fearless. Such strength bringing up those planks of wood. I am in awe!
YOU CAN DO IT, DAN! We believe in you and your amazing talent for imagining how it was done before and improving all of it as you go along. You are doing absolute miracles!
Dan, I look forward to seeing your updates. I was thinking of how much hard work you have put into the chateau already and how much more you have to do. Be encouraged, and don't let the heat get to you. There are a lot of people rooting for you.
Never let the obstacle in front of you block the view of all you have accomplished so far. Wife and I watch you every day during dinner or after work. Keep up the amazing work.
Definitely see about installing a lightning rod or two. Being the highest point, natural or man-made, for miles, that seems a very reasonable plan! Hope you are stopping for healthy meals, snacks and hydration on a regular basis. We don’t want you to work too hard, but sufficiently hard to accomplish your goals and enjoy the sense of accomplishment! Cheers!! If it is too hot to do physical work, then do what you did, look over your plans. Your instincts are pretty good, you caught the flaw. Well done! Press on in the morning!
No stick from me, Dan. None of this is easy. Don't be so hard on yourself. You're making fantastic progress. Love this channel.
Hard work builds a man, it doesn't kill him. Bloody sweat, tears and laughter, you're gonna be a very proud man in the end we're all gonna be rejoicing with you😊
Dan, you already know you are the man. No more manning up required. Great progress in that heat and some great camera shots as well. 😊
Dan, we always want you to be safe. Take plenty of water. The heat is very enervating. Take more breaks.
I'm so glad you realised that you calculations were off. Not too late to fix things.
Cheers always.
Brilliant!
The power of a bloke with a vision & total commitment.
It takes a real man to work on a rooftop right next to a scaffold in a lightning storm. I salute you good sir!
The obstacles in your way of achieving your goals will make your dreams a Reality, each Beam & Tenon you put in place, each Stone & Brick you lay, bring the Fire Ravaged Shell to Shine like a Diamond that once Graced the Marquess, quite sure she is Smiling with Pride at your progress of making the Chateau your Home. (Bravo- I look forward to each new video, inspires me to find a Ruinous Shell to build a Home.)
as per your request, Dan... MAN UP! Let's get this done! lol. Remember how far you've come!!! You got this!!! We are ALL very proud of you!!!
Dan you are an epitome of hard work. Glad you stayed out of the heat. Hope you have A/C running in your yurt.
Every day I look forward to watching your videos... hugs from you 🇧🇷
Thank you Dan! You teach us every day. Enjoy what you do, the reward is the result. Hard work is rewarding. It's not always easy to find balance and know when to let up a little. Respect your limitations. We all have them. The extreme heat teaches us to react intelligently. You're smart; you've got this. It's good to see how happy you are!
Working in the morning and evening when it's less hot is a very good idea. Plus, you can basically eat whatever you want with this crazy heat and all this work you're doing. I hope you're indulging at least a little when you break for lunch. Your new subscribers might not know you're an excellent chef. A lesson in the fine art of grilling at the work site would be fun if you have to stop working because of the weather. Cheers! 🍻 💖✨
Nothing better than a daily viewing of this chateau ^^
But litterally two minutes before Dan says it, I was like: Wait... Is there a lightning rod somewhere ?!
Dan, you’re an inspiration to all of us! Keep up the great work!
Living in a very hot and humid place, I can tell you to NOT push it! Heat stroke is deadly! You did the right thing today!
Oh Dan, if anyone can do it, you can. The heat is just a bit of a challenge, but not any worse than the ones you've already faced. I'm rooting for you. 🎉❤
I could NEVER tell you to "man up," as you said, you and your wonderful helpers have done such a great job! It is almost unbelievable what you have gotten done in this timeframe! I just love your show!! 🎉
We’re all behind you. Keep it up! You’re the man, Dan!
Dan I’m an 84 year old grandmother and you are my hero , when I was 30 I also built a house milled all the timber from my.block etc , Dan I’m your biggest fan do take care ❤ 8:54
I have complete confidence that you will see it through to the end, your very own excitement at seeing it done is what will keep you going. You got this.
Construction is one of the most demanding jobs ever. It’s nice to see someone with such a great work ethic. I can relate and when you’re done it’s a statement that will last a long time.
No doubt you will get it done! You are a focused, motivated and passionate restorer of this great bit of history! Sweat on!
hi Dan, Greetings from Southern Spain...we totally understand that you cannot work in the heat during the day 😊 This is why we have siesta in Spain..and then are wide awake and do stuff late into the night when it is nice and cool. You have the best channel ever, keep it up!!!
There is a time for everything. Time for a siesta. Time to rest. Time to carry on.
Great work, Dan, Brian and Nick!
Lightnings are no joke, and your house is the highest building all around.
Dan, every bit you do is making progress. Don't worry about not accomplishing all that you wanted to today, Hopefully the next day will be cooler and you'll be re-energized. We all enjoy seeing what you've done.
After two years renovating a house I know that no matter how small the days progress it is still progress. You are a superman! Just be kind to yourself. Hi from a frosty Melbourne Australia morning!
So much hard work has already gone into this! Truly amazing- thank you for sharing!
You're doing a great job Dan. In the weather conditions and alone, you can only do so much.
I wish you well. But stay safe!
You're making great progress, Dan. Don't push yourself too hard working alone in the heat!
Dan, you certainly have been an inspiration working through all kinds of weather, snow, sleet, rain & heat… you never give up! You’re amazing!
As I lie here nursing an aching back, I’m watching you & praying the same doesn’t happen to you! Of course, I have a couple of decades on you. Great job, Dan!!!
No way will I say man up, you are incredible at what you achieve. I am watching everyday at what you get done on your own. Give yourself credit for your achievements.
No, Dan, you have worked really hard, look how far you've come. One of hardest working man, I have watched on RUclips; you're a remarkable man😊
i loved to seeing the sitting chair by the front door, nice place for tea!
That Dan! One minute straining like crazy with heavy beams, the next minute whistling like he’s on a stroll kicking little stones. No winder were crazy about him!!!
You have got this, big steps, small steps - all going in the right direction. Fantastic and thanks for the videos - loved the lightning and thunder shots.
You are the embodiment of Determination…. You inspire me to keep going with my little projects.. Like redoing my dining room…. I am disabled so things are going slower…. But, I’m doing it…
Man up, you mad man of a courageous genius, you! Yes, that'll stick.

You are the best selfmade carpenter on the whole planet!!!! 👍🏼Even when it is hot.
What you're doing is so impressive! Up there on your own doing what has to be done. You're the man, Dan!
Oh my goodness! You are amazing, Dan, the way you stay with it, working alone or with your excellent crew, in winter weather, rain, heat or pleasant sunshine. I’m restoring an old house now that I am retired from my teaching career and I find you and all the amazing work you do to be so inspirational. I always look forward to your new videos and I find you and your positive, can-do attitude in each of them really helps me when I work on this old house! Thank you and hang in there!!
Hey Dan… wow , your the MAN!! The stubbornness and persistence is undeniable, you always find a way!!

Greetings from Greece! We know how it is to work under heat! You did the right thing working later in the afternoon when it's cooler. Keep it up! You're doing great! 💪 It's so satisfying seeing the progress! You ARE getting this done!🎉
Don’t underestimate the heat & humidity, and listen to your body. You deserve light work days here & there.
Necessity is the mother of Invention. I loved watching you solve the problem of getting that large beam up when you were by yourself, and brute strength wasn't cutting it. Seeing you adapt the winch to bring it up was fantastic. You never cease to amaze me with your drive, sheer stubbornness, and ingenuity. Thank you for sharing your progress and passion at restoring Chaumont!
You are pushing yourself so much and you are working on your own, so please don't be so hard on yourself! You are doing a sterling job there! Love your videos!
I love how you never give up. x
I know these projects can become addictive Dan, and it's great watching all that you do. But please, don't hesitate to take time off. Put you feet up and relax from time to time. Your audience I'm sure will understand, and you'll return invigorated!!
Hope you didn't get hurt out there
I love watching the ups and downs of your work Dan. And your cheery face brightens up my day. I am in awe at all that has been accomplished so far. It just goes to show what you can do - one foot in front of the other, following your vision. Love it!
Been lurking. Can't believe how much you have accomplished working alone! I look forward to watching progress. "Keep the faith" and take heart, we're all with you!
No pain no gain no work no progress just keep telling yourself Rome wasn’t built in a day in the château are not gonna get done this week. 😂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 great job. Don’t finish too soon. I enjoy watching the videos. Reminds me of my younger days restoring buildings
