I usually don’t say much and I don’t mean this negatively, but you guys working in that deep trench had me concerned. You really need some protection against those walls collapsing. You guys do great work!👍❤️
I agree! Giving me anxiety just watching it!
I really enjoy the Doug and Chet interactions. I don't know how old Chet is, but it's clear he's been following and learning from his dad for years. Pretty cool.
Chets almost 30 so hes got a lot of weight on his shoulders, needs to reproduce within 5yrs or they'll loose the farm
Man, you guys need a safety box for that trench work.
Being a firefighter, you guys need to stay safe. Trench rescues happen unexpectedly. Could be very tragic:( Stay safe.
@@mikerose6600even more with water in the mix.
I just wanna say being i have done road constrution and laied alot of pipe in the ground. I scares me to see you guys in that narrow of a ditch. You need to widen the ditch out in case of collapse. i have heard of to many men dying because of ditch collapse. Please make your ditches wider. Thank you. Love all your videos you guys make. My wife's cousin died from a ditch collapse. Nothing to mess around with boys. And he was with an experinced crew too.
Boy, seeing you guys in that trench in the opening scene gave me shivers. I'm a homebuilder of many years experience, and I almost killed my brother long ago because of a trench he was in when we were running a sewer line. You'd be surprised how fast and silently it happens.
my same thoughts , the safety regs require shoring up the sides for trenches that deep... 😒
@@jaimiecrowley6980 I had the same nightmare vision. Sloping the sides back helps to prevent those pesky cave-ins also. Sorry to repeat what others mentioned.
I worked at a Fire Department was many cave ins that nobody thought would happen. Very sad business. Please don’t ever get an open trench ever again. Just get a box 0:57 0:57
In almost five years of enjoying your content I have ignored the safety comments. Brushed them off as overly cautious with a leave them alone and let them do work mentality. These comments about trench safety are not overly cautious. As a Midwest large ish city firefighter medic/trench rescue technician/ former commercial construction worker, I ask you to look it up. Ask OSHA, the most trench fatalities occur in CLAY soil. If you were digging in sand you would know nine feet down the walls will collapse, so people in Florida use trench boxes. The Midwest everyone is lulled into a feeling of safety with clay. If the collapse is over someone’s head, 99% a recovery. Stay safe.
As a Trench Rescue Technician, it also was concerning after i just watched LA FD have one today in a much shallower trench. I will say this though, that class A material is pretty sturdy but one loose layer as Chet noticed at the far end in the driveway is all it takes to start sloughing & then it is a chain reaction. I would definitely recommend putting ladders down there the next time that will reach up out of the hole. The best thing would be a trench box made from metal.
Stay safe.
Jordan’s dry humor is delightful!
Chet, I grew up on a farm. There's enough bad things that can happen even when you're careful so don't make it worse by doing unnecessarily dangerous things. Your audience has spoken pretty clearly about working in deep trenches without protection. Respect what they're telling you and do a mea culpa on your next video. Everyone will feel better.
Not to be that guy, but I’m going to be that guy. (31 years in construction business.)
When you get deeper than 4’ in a trench, you need to bench it back. 4’ up 2’ over. Bench 2’ over for ever additional 2’ in depth. Or slope it 2/1. But benching it is easier
That soil you have has a lot of top soil in it. Stay safe !
Amen, amen, and amen.
I've done duct bank and storm drain I've seen more than a few trenches collapse before being cut down/benched or sloped
They are also standing on the blind side of the operator I double the can see them when he is booming out!
Chet, Great video, work smart and stay safe, and i know you dont really blame Brody for breaking the mower part. You are just heckling him. Brody knows that. Brody you are Awesome, you are a fine employee, so is Eric and Jordan. Thank You guys for being Awesome and Entertaining and all the crap you give one another❤️
Larson Farms really should invest in a trench box. They can be a pain in the butt to work around but they have saved many lives.
You guys put yourselves in a dangerous position in that trench. if one on those walls collapsed you would be buried. Please, next time have your Dad bench the trench sides way back or rent a trench box to work in.
That makes me cringe down in that trench like that. A large farmer down in se ga was recently killed when doing that same thing when it collapsed on him. Known him a long time, was heart breaking. I hope yall will take future precautions next time. Tranch box's are a must have that deep. Be safe.
You might be getting an OSHA visit for trench safety violation Chet. That was a very unsafe project. Trench collapse isn’t something to mess around with
OSHA doesn’t have jurisdiction here most likely.
@@Josh-jg5nn trust me. they have jurisdiction
Glad to see that you were able to video the action of installing the overhead crane (chain)
Whatever you do at the farm it's always good to watch😊
Y’all are Great. Thank You for Sharing !! H.
Larson crew. Keeping trench safety in mind is paramount! At 19:41 the soil is WAY above Jordan's head. You rarely have enough time to rescue. Most of the time it's a recovery.....
Should have been benched or trench walls
If that trench caves in, help hardly comes in time, and your great work as farmers will be a curse ….. safety is no accident…
This was foolish amd irresponsible. You took peoples lives and put them at severe risk.
That was a really good job you found that plastic bag, that does explain why, if not how! Apart from that, you seem to have done quite a good job, upto the end of the video. The question is did you get the tittification done to a good enough standard? Knowing you guys you got it "good enough", that would mean, great for anyone else! Thanks for the hard work you had to do, but that should be the end of problems here for you. Thanks from UK.
You'll really like the overhead crane, when I built my shop in 1996 I put an overhead crane, it has a 28' bridge beam with a 3 ton chain hoist, you will find alot of uses for it.
I wonder how Brodie feels when you say he's broken this or destroyed that! Come on Chet, I'm sure you've been operating machinery that had something break on it. Brodie is a hard working member of the team!!
@davidreid8353 You are so right. Anybody can take a razzing joke about getting stuck or cab corn or something innocent like that we all do but to openly criticize and half ass blame Brody for the failure of an obsolete gearbox is childish. Once is enough but he made fun of Brody twice in about 2 minutes. Those kind of "jokes" are not easily forgotten. I just don't like to see young, good hearted and very talented employees be made the butt of a joke just to get what the boss thinks is a laugh for himself
I was a crane operator for Borsheim crane on a few projects. An amazing company that treats their employees and customers like family.
Way to go randy to make sure they did it right glad to c u helping keep dougo out of trouble
That was one of those Chinese Spy Balloon that was shot down and clogged the drain pipe 😂😂😂😂
Friend of mine’s dad was killed in a tile trench collapse. They could see him, but the soil pressure on his lungs suffocated him before they could dig him out.
Be safe out there guys .
You at least found the issue! Good job
You should never ever ever be in those trenches without supports. I know someone who got caught in a less deep trench and was stuck for hours. Broke his sternum along with other crushing injuries. Breathing was a problem too. Please consider supporting the trench walls.
All they need to do is bench back the sides
@@stevefoley7345 Yes, that too.
@@stevefoley7345 Yes, that too.
I operated a rental Sky Track telehandler for years on my Christmas Tree Fam in Oregon.
It is the best.
Get a Harley Rake for the skid steer. It would do magic with that gumbo chunks after a little dry time. Youd be able to leave the hand rakes at home, the dirt is seed ready after Harley Raking.
Chet, back in the 80s I worked at Wood's Brother Oregon Illinois.. was there for a couple of years. That may be one of the cutter I built, good luck 🤞
Enjoyed words of wisdom from Dougo.
Repair jobs never end on the farm. Stay safe.
Thanks for sharing, Chet. Be safe. Stay well. Victor
Be careful being in a hole that deep without any benches on the side so it won't collapse
I always wondered how you keep debris out of the open tile inlets and now I know, enjoyed watching it way more than you enjoyed doing it
Thanks for the video. Had some most interesting parts to it and some not so good.
Love all of the Larson team very much and would just crush me to see something happen to any of you. I know you are peppered with comments about working in a trench.
Please do be SAFE.
Rent or purchase a trench box with as much tiling that you folks do. Just be on the safe side of things. Enough said!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better subject. Love your overhead crane. I believe you will use that a great deal as much as you folks do your own repair work. Looks like a really nice crane. The company that did the install did a great job it appears.
Really think you will really use this a lot and enjoy having it.
Nice job everyone!!!!!!
Thanks for filming the installment. Was interesting.
Cleaning the mud off of the concrete.
Just a suggestion. Would maybe MayWest have some type of poly fixture or could make one for you that would fix onto the skid steer bucket so as to not damage the concrete. Bet they could make one for you. Just an idea.
Tile work is not easy. On the place I worked at , when we got over our head deep, we stopped. Then the project went to a tile contractor who had all the right equipment and safety equipment.
Just a suggestion.
Love all of you!!!!!!!!
About it I guess. Enjoy that overhead crane.
Let’s start a fund for making sure that Dougo has his bologna sandwiches!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!
Enjoy those sandwiches Dougo!!!!!!!!
Thanks for everything Larsons and ALL of the great people that work there. !!!!!!!!!
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
PS. Just a thought. I think from Brodie’s facial expressions he feels bad about damaging a piece of equipment. Sometimes reminding him just pushes the boundary. Just a thought.
Love all of you-the best bunch of workers I have ever seen!!!! My compliments to ALL of you!!!!!!!!!
We recently moved into our new office and workshop, we produce big ag machine for the tulip and peomy sector. We have got 6 36 meter 5 tonncranes
Magnifique vidéo et la poutres pour le bâtiment est bien équipés et bien intéressante 😮😅😊
Nicely done. 💪👍🏼
Better get Duggo a power broom attachment for the skid steer for cleaning off that slab.
Hi guys. I had a mower gear box crack once too, it turns out that the slip clutch on the driveline was seized from being in storage all winter. I didn't know until I hit a rock and the blades stopped but the shock load was too much for the gearbox case. After that I would take the slip clutches apart and clean them every spring.
Read about cable care and maintenance, a place I used to work at neglected it and people were hurt.
Trench safety guys, if it is over your waist, widen the hole. We see it all the time on Farmer RUclips. Treat it just as dangerous as entering a full bin.
Good to see after all these years that you've decided to "crane it" 😉
When yer' doin', a do-it-yer'self fix on tile, ya' jist' do what ya' gotta' do 👍
Chet, ya' did a great job of explaining soil types and knowing what your safety levels were 😊
Awesome video Chet. 🚜🚜🚜
I was just watching a live trench rescue in Loz Feliz before I hopped over here. Don’t tempt fate guys, it is not worth it and can happen to anyone.
Backfill with clean graded gravel to top of pipe. Mainly at connections. Especially that one goosenecking out the top. When the ground settles, who knows what shape that will end up
TRENCH SAFETY! DAMNIT! STEP THAT IF YA DON"T HAVE A BOX ..please?
Good video. Don't get caught in the crane.
Climbing into a trench without collapse protection ......IS DANGEROUS!!!!!! I'm a firefighter and i have had to dig someone out from a collapse.
Same! 30+ years FF/EMT Rescue Specialist. I’d need my toes to count them all. It’s as preventable as drowning. Trench boxes and PFD’s. Problem solved.
Like we say in the fire service: everybody goes home
Dougo is an operator with that excavator! 💪
as long as he has his baloney sandwich!
You should get a few lengths of 1-1/2" fire hose instead of that rubber line . The hose will lay flat when not in use and easy to store. Your nozzle will shut off without having a big ball valve making the entire system easier to use. We buy from a fire equipment dealer in Sioux Falls, they have it in stock. They come in 50' lengths and screw together if you need longer hoses.
Lol came for all the Trench box shaming Dougo was sweating bullets over on Amy’s channel last week 😂
I'm gutsy too to save time, you pushed it too far though. Boxes are a must at that depth.
You have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW LUCKY YOU ARE!! I've been installing utilities for over 20 years; your trench is the worst excavation I've seen in a long time!! Everyone on your payroll needs take an OSHA competent person class. It will save someone's life.
You’re talking to farmers, they won’t listen to what you’re saying intel someone dies in a trench collapse. Intel then, they think you’re worried about stupid stuff.
You must work at OSHA
What are you talking about... didn't you see he did the pliers test..?😂
@@R.E.HILL_ The old plier test. That test works great, when you’re only going to be in a 10’ or shallower trench, for less than 10 minutes. I had forgotten about that test. Thanks for the reminder.
One thing about Larson Farms, they like things clean.
Great job guys . thank you
Trench safety you guys. Please look into it.
Yes. That’s a baby crane but you’ll love it. I regularly operate a 200 ton traveling bridge crane. They are extremely useful.
Happy you were able to find the problem and fix it!
New Well- you guys are really using it! Haha
I m so glad I subscribed to this channel…I’ve learned sooo much about farming in your part of ‘MERICA! 💜from Texas
I´m sure May Wes will make you a poly edge for baby bobs bucket so you can squeegy off that concrete.
We found a bunch of plastic inside a blocked tile. It was black and not super heavy. I thought it might have been stuffed in a roll of tile at the factor.
Het Chet, I used to run a 50 ton overhead crane. I'm sure there are bigger
Take it for what it’s worth. Being in that trench is incredibly stupid without proper cutback or shoring…
Past 4’ deep you risk trench collapse and being crushed with many tons of dirt…. It’s industry standard for a reason!
Chet, with all the pieces of equipment you have, what would be something that you’d like to have?
I hope you guys know what you're doing getting in those unshored open trenches. My neighbor died in one.
You might check into a power rake for the skid steer. They really do a nice job of finishing a project like this and leave the perfect conditions for seed and strawing. Worth the extra to keep landlords happy.
Great video. Be safe. Like most of us. We make it work. 😊
Need to invest in a trench box
Unplugging the tile was outstanding. Crane safe 👍👍👍
Homie, I know a 1000 people have probably already commented, but you guy need to invest into some trench boxes!
You all need to take aTrench rescue class and get the safety equipment. Usually local fire/ rescue have trained personnel that can train.
We have this exact crane in the bobcat shop I work at, the actual chain carrier thing is different, remote controlled for all 4 directions but still a 3 ton which isnt really enough for some things we do but it makes track and engine work a breeze
You guys work dangerously, where I come from 4 feet of vertical wall is max then 1-1 slope.
Chet, y'all need an attachment for your skid loader called a ruckus rake. It will bust up those big chunks and can be used for all tile repair jobs. Really leaves the soil nice and smooth
Trench safety gents......
I played music in Fargo back in my days. It was a huge casino with a huge bowling alley.
I have installed those overhead cranes before. Boy that tile was a pain in the rear.
Hey chat have u ever tried using gear grease way better for all gear boxes
I am always amazed at the side work of farming. Kudos to the crew in the hole!
You should consider stepping out the tench for safety
Dougo and the Bologna sandwich? Love it.
You guys are just to much fun
23:13 Seems like you use that backhoe for lake stuff more than dirt!!😂
With that overhead crane a class on lifting devices and load limits would be smart idea just thoughts from a guy who runs a one every day
Change the sweeps while the old ones are broken if you don’t like that make or you’ll have the same problem later down the line.
Need to invest in sani-lav spray nozzle aswell for your wash bay
Is there a place on the farm for a telehandler?
I hope you took pictures or drew up an as built map of the new pipework so you will know what you are looking at in 20 - 30 years time when you are trying to camera this tile line.
Wow, what are the odds that that bag would find its way into your tile system. You should go buy a lotto ticket, 'cause after getting that much bad luck, you're due.
Change refresh rate on your camera so the lights in the shop don't affect video....
Try gear grease better than oil your bin sweeps would work good with that
A gantry Houston will be invaluable if or when you need to get an engine out of a Combine or a tractor. No hanging people without a safety airbag. Concrete is HARD, PEOPLE DON'T Bounce. 9:09
Good stuff as usual gang, I love my baloney with a slice of tomato. Crane 🏗️ is awesome. Machinery is great..Thanks
You'll love that crane. I would add a second hoist. It'll make it easier for long stuff.
Great to see the crane installed, life is going to become much easier. Dougo should invest in a power broom for the skid loader to clean off the nice concrete pads.
Good for snow too!
Yes before they empty their aquifer washing off that apron.
Do you guys know what trench boxes are?? You really should be using them when you dig out trenches like that. Go look it up
Probably a good idea.
thanks chet
great video.. thanks!
