@BeardMan01 😂😂 I was just thinking to myself it would really suck to be the guy that has repack/grease this monster. Grease supplier on the other hand…💰💰
@BeardMan01 Grease LOL. When Fresh Kills Landfill was open. There were 260 Tractor Operators running more than 130 pieces of equipment 24/7. Just think of the fuel bill. LOL I remember working one night, and the big O&K 350 exvavator broke a hydraulic line internally. The machine was used to unload the garbage barges, but couldn't work. They walked the machine about 10 feet before it shut down because of lack of hydraulic fluid. They brought in pallets of 55 gallon drums of hydraulic fluid and refilled the machine, so they could walk it another 10 feet. They refilled the excavator several times, before they could get it out of the way, so they could bring in a fresh machine to continue digging the garbage. They did this without blinking an eye. You could build a house, with the cost of wasted hydraulic fluid. But, getting rid of the garbage is more important than saving money.
@@PhillipMoore-vj6cc " But, getting rid of the garbage is more important than saving money. " Keeping the operation running saved far more money than the wasted fluid. Why you are an operator and not a manager.
@theboringchannel2027 Nah! It wasn't that deep. It would not stop the whole operation, just that "pad" (barge unloading location). There were 4 pads and two truckfills running 24/7. With about 70 or so barges, that were constantly being filled and emptied. At any given time there would be 7-10 barges for each pad waiting to be unloaded. One time, I was on a 992 loading payhaulers when a boss came out and stopped me. "This lady here, accidentally dropped her diamond ring in the garbage. By the time she realized it, the garbage in her area was already collected. As the crane dumps a bucket into the pit, (The working floor.) I want you to spead it out so we can look for it." Four hours later, they found her ring. So money wasn't a factor. They just add a few more barges to the que. Which doesn't effect the system overall. The reason that the night bosses wasted all that hydraulic fluid, was because of inexperience. Had the same incident happened during the day shift. They would have shut the "pad" down until the excavator was repaired (1 day). Incidentally, I didn't know that they tracked the garbage so closely. This lady was very lucky. Once the garbage goes onto the active "bank" to be buried, it's gone forever. The police have tried several times to set up an operation to find a body or other evidence. (Replete with hazmat, and tyveks, etc. too funny.) They never found anything, but they tried.
Soooooo, 13 minutes to knock the dirt off. I worked at Fresh Kills Landfill for 28 years as a Tractor Operator. We also has water cannon stations. But, after a machine leaves the water cannon, it is brought to the back of the shop. Where an attendant will spend another 1-2 hours going over it with a steam jenny. ALL of the compartments must me opened up and cleaned. Dirt gets everywhere, not just on the undercarriage. At Fresh Kills, no dirty machine is brought into the shop, for servive or repairs. The only time mechanics work on dirty machines, is in the field. Even then, if it can't be fixed in a shift, the machine is brought to the water cannon to start the cleaning process, so it can be brought into the shop.
That sounds like an awesome policy made by someone who understands what it’s like to work of filthy equipment. Landfill debris isn’t just mud, and it’s probably a health hazard.
@OoavastoO Fresh Kills is the "waterway" right next to the Landfill. Fresh Kills (the waterway) separates Staten Island (NY) from New Jersey. The waterway is called a "Kill" because that is Dutch. The original settlers of New York were Dutch and called New York, New Amsterdam. There are many streets and places on Staten Island that still retain their original Dutch names. The House where George Washington used to have his meetings (during the Revolutionary War) is still available to visit. So the "Dump" was named after its location.
I worked at a mine in Montana for close to 5 yrs. We had a big wash off rack like this one. It made working on equipment in the shop a whole lot easier once the equipment was cleaned up.
Some people know how to clean things properly, others clean but it’s not that clean, but this team smashed it, just need 1lt of wd40 to stop it from rusting, Grest job
Previously we made the floor with small plates and then planted them, the results were not good. Now we use a wider plate, which turns out to be more durable.
I love and hate pressure washing. It makes it seem easy, but then comes the downside you dont see. It forces grit INTO all the seals of bearings and other shaft seals. You cant just pray and spray . you have to be conscious of certain areas to avoid !!! Like the plague!!! Anywhere on the front of the engine esoecially near crankshaft or the rear trans-outputs, or the hydraulic seals on the cylinders, or the bushings that ALL have to be greased now...Sigh. I ended up mixing 1/4 waterproof marine grease, 1/4 anti seize, and 1/2 high quality waterproof wheel bearing grease, mixed well and applied to all bushings , pivots links , anywhere it moves or rotates. (except a high speed bearing!) The anti seize residue lets parts move when the grease is all dried and washed out. If you hear it squeak, immediately go into shop , regrease and its all fine! This literally 10x the lifespan on my machines. Dorks with cannons...yeah. Spraying a 1/2 mill machine like ...dorks. Then again you can eat off my machines. Im picky .
Actually in terms of payroll it’s 39 minutes…2 laborers & 1 Operator…which IS likely 1.5 hours inclusive of prep… Union shop…that’s $175 inclusive of burden🤷♂️
On machines that size I doubt you could bend the fins with that kinda water after it went through the grill. I may be wrong but I have washed small cat machines my whole life with a 4000 PSI pressure washer and never had a problem directly hitting the rads.
Thank You. What you need to pay attention to is the unit whose fan is outside the radiator. When the engine is running, avoid flushing it with high pressure. The fan leaf can shake, come into contact with the radiator, causing the fan to break.
Your grease supplier and his family thank you for cleaning this way.
@BeardMan01 😂😂 I was just thinking to myself it would really suck to be the guy that has repack/grease this monster. Grease supplier on the other hand…💰💰
You’re supposed to grease every day. No grease inside bushings was removed anyway. Loose grease was washed off and that’s good
