An excellent way to wake up on my birthday! Astro Bot was developed by Team Asobi and the composer for both of these tracks was Kenneth C M Young. This is actually the fifth game with Astro Bot! The first one was The Playroom for PS4, which was a free game built into the PS4 to demo the Dual Shock 4 and PlayStation Camera. Second was The Playroom VR, and similar free game demo for the PlayStation VR. Next up was the first paid-for Astro Bot game, being Astro Bot Rescue Mission - another PlayStation VR game, and one of my favourite ever VR games! Game number 4 was Astro's Playroom, the game that came with your PS5, which acted as a demonstration of what both the PS5 and the Dualsense could do. Fifth, and finally, we have this - Astro Bot, which came out earlier this year! Game facts out the way, I can simply say that this was far and away my game of the year - a title that I thought was reserved for either FF7 Rebirth or Metaphor: Refantazio! This was the first 3D platformer to put a massive grin on my face since A Hat in Time, and was an absolute delight to play and platinum! It's chock full of Playstation references, from the obscure to the blockbusters, and the soundtrack is absolutely top tier, so expect more of these from me in the future! To finish on an incredibly biased note, yes you absolutely should play Astro Bot! The whole thing can be beaten in around 10 hours (add another 2 if you wanted to give Astro's Playroom a spin!) and is a worthy winner of GOTY!
I never played the game, but seeing a celebration of video games winning GotY is very fitting. And now coming here to hear the music for it for the first time has made me seriously thinking of picking it up. Congrats to the team that made this and fun video Jessie.
Astro Bot is brilliant, definitely give it a spin, it's only a few (5 ish non completionist) hours. It's made by Team Asobi, ex-Japan Studio (developers of ape escape!)
Astro's Playroom is closeish to 5 (5 is probably more completionist, but non-completionist is probably still 3ish. Astro Bot I'd peg as 10ish for non-completionist
@@ALeafOnTheWind42I refuse to to believe anyone is completion running this in 5 hours. I did 100 percent but mine was closer to 20 hours. That time would be like running through every level and not taking anything in which is not how I play games and astrobot actively forces you to take your time and explore every nook and cranny otherwise you will absolutely miss some of those harder to find bots.
The Composer, Kenny, is such an awesome guy. My wife worked with him for nigh on 12 years, so I got to meet him loads, and he's honestly, such a nice guy. He did such a good job with the soundtrack and Astros Playroom too.
In essence, Astro Bot is a love letter to Sony and the various games that have been prominent on its consoles throughout its history. It is absolutely full to the brim with references from Playstation games, including levels that are entirely built as references to specific prominent games/series. In terms of playtime, you can probably knock it out in 5 to 8 hours if you don't care about completion, and closer to 20 if you want to get all of the secrets. Gameplay-wise, It's an old school platformer in the vein of Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie or Crash Bandicoot, although it's fairly forgiving in terms of difficulty. I generally recommend it for anyone who wants a fun little game to spend a lazy afternoon on.
I'm always sad when I hear people just deleted Astro's Playroom off their PS5 without a second thought...hopefully now that Astro Bot has a full game and it won GOTY, the world will finally understand! Redownload it, play it, enjoy cute robots and platforming bliss and lots of PS history references! Edit: Also LMAO, the reaction to "BOY" did not disappoint. Such a fantastic use of a sample.
@@Nexdex Probably the most hilarious drop in the entire Astro Bot OST 🤣 Then again, I literally just vibed to "I am Astro Bot (ASTRO BOT Remix)" and "ASTRO" a lot the last days
@@Nexdex same, but well it’s people that probably don’t like to experience new things, I didn’t know that it was preinstalled when I got my ps5 but since day one is a permanent in my collection now together with Astro Bot 2024💙.
I was absolutely one of the people who deleted Playroom thinking it was just there to tell me what my controller could do. A friend of mine corrected my mistake several months ago, and I couldn't be more appreciative of that.
I'd suggest playing this game it's a wonderful and pretty short experience even if you 100% it. It has references to Playstation history some of which knowing you and the games you like will make you very happy playing it
Astro Bot is an absolute joy, just pure fun from start to finish and nothing ever felt like it overstayed it's welcome. The music is no exception either
You could play a game where one has to guess the video game from only a single word. Then someone says "Boy" and the other one would go instantly: "Oh yeah, that's God of War." XD
This game is absolutely delightful and makes me feel like a kid again. ISTG I thought I was hearing things when the music went BOY and I stood still for like 5 min waiting for it to play again 😂
You should play Astro. Both Playroom and Bot are so simple, but so fun and full of joy. And they're pretty much the reason why the Dualsense is my favorite controller. They both make wonderful use of the DS5's haptic feedback. It's so good that it changes the experience of the game. I know you were saying you might, depending on how things go, try to play Bastion this month before starting Octopath in January. Consider instead (or possibly in addition) to play Astro's Playroom. You can definitely fit it in and you do already own it. Big recommend
I was really hoping for the singing tree segment of the disco tree song to be included. What was played here is only the song to maybe the first third of the level, it transitions into something truly amazing. Hearing it in context of the game is even better
Every world in Astro Bot ends with a stage based entirely around a different game. Some of them are obvious picks like God of War, but there are a couple of really surprising choices.
Well at least you got to sell your PSP, I forgot mine at a Cyber cafe near my high school, I went back 10 minutes later looking for it but it was too late. I really loved my PSP it was my emulation machine, I got to experience many SNES & GBA games for the 1st time through it, not to mention the PSP games themselves.
This is definitely a good one to play. Not a huge time commitment, lots of nostalgia & Easter eggs for those of us that have been playing PlayStation since the PS1. It’s just a solid fun game all round.
Sonic is still the mascot of SEGA, even though they don't make consoles anymore. Nintendo has Mario, and XBOX has Master Chief, but PlayStation has had many different mascots over the years. Considering how great Astro Bot turned out, he might be their new mascot! It really is a great game, though. You should check it out!
Could recommend so many songs from this soundtrack, should have won best ost aswell but if it wasn’t this then FFRebirth would have been the next best for me.
What a terrible take. Tell me you’re biased without telling me you’re biased. Half of ff7 fans don’t even like the new narrative direction they took with the remake

Hey, it's my birthday, too!
“BOY” the biggest drop of all time
The BOY drop goes so hard lol
The chants in the god of war song are often saying "Asobi" which is the development team behind astro bot
No they aren't, it's literally just the original lyrics from the original theme.
I never played the game, but seeing a celebration of video games winning GotY is very fitting. And now coming here to hear the music for it for the first time has made me seriously thinking of picking it up. Congrats to the team that made this and fun video Jessie.
Get it, it's pure fun start to finish
The fact that this was uploaded when AStro Bot won Game Of The Year is so fitting.
That's kinda the point of the video I guess though x)

Never mind I didn’t read your comment properly lmao. My bad

We GOTTA get Jesse to play Astro Bot.
The more I think about it, the more I feel like this game was made for him.

Who tf deletes a free game that came with their console before at least playing it a bit lol

Boy of the year! I don't think I've seen you burst out laughing during these reactions before.
You could play a game where one has to guess the video game from only a single word. Then someone says "Boy" and the other one would go instantly: "Oh yeah, that's God of War." XD
This game is absolutely delightful and makes me feel like a kid again. ISTG I thought I was hearing things when the music went BOY and I stood still for like 5 min waiting for it to play again 😂
along with smags you're probably the best music reactor on youtube ... keep it up boss!
Astro bot made me fall in love with gaming again.
I literally cried seeing all these references to classic PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4 games.
Jesse, you loved a hat in time, you would most likely also like Astro a lot
Lmao, "BOY"

The game was heavily inspired by Mario Galaxy and all 3D Marios gameplay-wise, which was a good decision because those games slap. Astro Bot is great.
You can just *feel* the love put into Astro Bot from the level design, characters, and the music! Also
B O Y
As a Playstation guy since 1998 I had a big smile on my face the entire game.
Imo music works even better if you platform to the rhythm.
I was really hoping for the singing tree segment of the disco tree song to be included. What was played here is only the song to maybe the first third of the level, it transitions into something truly amazing. Hearing it in context of the game is even better
GOATed
Two words: crash site
Disco Tree was originally from Astro Bot Rescue Mission for PSVR
Its the game of the year winner!
Every world in Astro Bot ends with a stage based entirely around a different game. Some of them are obvious picks like God of War, but there are a couple of really surprising choices.
Cocoreccho!
Brother as an Ape Escape fan, you should definitely play this game lol
You should definetly play it, from start to finish I had a smile on my face (except a few emotional moments).
I'm playing this now. You have got to hear Papa Tree, and Quel Fromage
Great games and the soundtrack is amazing
Now we gotta get Papa Tree on the list if it's not already
You would like Astrobot
The game is around16 hours long if you want to 100% it which is btw one of the most fun games to fully complete in my opinion
This is definitely a good one to play. Not a huge time commitment, lots of nostalgia & Easter eggs for those of us that have been playing PlayStation since the PS1. It’s just a solid fun game all round.
You should check out the "Papa tree" song. And "Marine Serene" is probably my favorite one.
Would love to see you play through this game and its extras.
Gotta listen to the boss themes they are AMAZING
Ohhhh the uncharted song is so gooood
Would have loved for Metaphor or Rebirth to win but Astrobot deserved it!
More Astro music please 💙
Oh these are two great first songs
10:56.. I don't recognise.. but then.. boy....
That boy drop sure is something ain’t it?
LISTEN TO PAPA TREE
Sonic is still the mascot of SEGA, even though they don't make consoles anymore. Nintendo has Mario, and XBOX has Master Chief, but PlayStation has had many different mascots over the years. Considering how great Astro Bot turned out, he might be their new mascot! It really is a great game, though. You should check it out!
This game was made for longterm PS fans bro, play the game, you would love the references
If you want good Astro Bot, I would suggest Trapped in Time, Crash Site, and/or No Guarenteeno (i cant spell lmao) Casino
Need to get him to listen to papa tree and the crash site next.
Crash site (all parts) and credit clash. And like a bunch of other songs
Could recommend so many songs from this soundtrack, should have won best ost aswell but if it wasn’t this then FFRebirth would have been the next best for me.
Please, react more to Astro Bot musics, one of my favorites is Perseverance
BOY
Bot Of War 🙋
Boi.
Please react to the Theme "I am Astro Bot"
This game absolutely did not deserve game of the year.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth got robbed.
What a terrible take. Tell me you’re biased without telling me you’re biased. Half of ff7 fans don’t even like the new narrative direction they took with the remake
Rebirth is my game of the year to but not mad that Astro Bot won. It actually deserved it as well
Step aside GOTY! Astrobot just entered the Jesse's Sunglasses Hall of Fame!
Music in this game was delightful.
