The Countess has such a delightfully proper way of explaining the history of this charming old "parish church" which is now part of the Mapperton estate. It is wonderful they are able to preserve all the structures and grounds. The history is fascinating.
Videos like this remind me of how important these historic estates, buildings and landmarks are. It would be awful if the situation in Ukraine were to spill over into other parts of Europe and we would lose some of these precious historic landmarks - let alone the loss to human life that would likely occur. Thank you for sharing this important piece of England's history - and the oh so interesting stories of days gone by Your Excellency!
My father is a retired Episcopal priest.I told him about the video and he's looking forward to watching! I know he's going to enjoy the story of the Bishop and the windows. The Countess give a fabulous history of the church!! I really look forward to her next video! Love from Vermont
Much love to the Countess for offering us this tour! I really enjoy her knowledge and enthusiasm. As a vicar, I am obsessed with the idea of having a house attached to an actual church--not just a domestic chapel--and I can see why the long-term vicar created the passage. There would be a good liturgical drama to just opening the door and arriving fully vested and ready to take the service.
Wonderful history! So enjoy her spirit! And so true. When I was a young mother of 3 with a hectic career. Children in all types of activities. I'd often catch myself as my mind wondered during the sermon. I'd be organizing the upcoming weeks activities that needed to be squished in while maintaining a job, house and marriage lol. Seemed we'd always be running a relay race through the week. And sitting in church just filled me with inner peace and clarity. I'm sure it was the Lord organizing my schedule. Always making time for God. As I know I am nothing without him.
How nice to have such a cultured and articulate lady show us around the is lovely little church. Her sympathy with the old religion is heartwaming. I wish more people knew about The Ordinariate in England. I remember lying in bed in our house in Wiltshire and hearing The dreaded Death Watch Beetles...somewhere in the house ! They are certainly alarming, especially as one counts the pennies that their damage is going to cost.
Interesting discussion of the "old religion". I have discovered "Popish recusants" in my own pedigree, which has really complicated my genealogy studies, especially of those who served very closely both the Crown and the Church. I could listen to the Countess for hours!
It's so wonderful to get all of these stories on video because sometimes while telling one story of Mapperton another one arises that probably hasn't been told before or at least hasn't been recorded. I could listen to the Countess all day.
🇨🇦 This lady is amazing the amount of Mapperton’s history she remembers, it is all very interesting, I like the little tid-bits of info on the families and area that she tells us, you cannot find that personal info on Wikipedia!! Lol. I enjoyed this video and look forward to more.
The Countess is fabulous!! How I should LOVE to know her over tea and cookies. She has seen and supported so much during her lifetime! I must admit, I absolutely adore her!
I would love to see the Countess of Sandwich sitting in a comfy chair by the fire and listen to her read a bit from one of the many journals in the library retelling the history of daily life there. Are any of the Church Records remaining? All Saints Mapperton Parish Church is Wonderful. Thank you!
The Countess is so very lovely. It is wonderful to hear her talk about and show us the different areas of Mapperton, the tours of the house, church, the discussion of the architecture and family artifacts. So truly enjoyable. I will listen to her talk about paint drying if she wished. Just love hearing her speak. Her voice is so soothing and I love the pitch and cadence. Julie, you have a pair of real gems for a Mother & Father-in-law! ❤️
Countess, your memory of all the history is amazing! All the tours you have given have been so informative & interesting. Your love for the estate & its history is so evident. The history of the chapel is unbelievable since here in The U.S. there are few buildings over 200 years old. What a treasure for you & the family & the British people. Linda from Alabama!
I have watched this video three times. The Countess provided so much information about the church architecture, history, people it made it all come alive. I enjoyed hearing her thoughts on specific aspects of the church. It is obvious she is fond of the people in the community as well. I really enjoyed the presentation. Wonderful. I look forward to Part 2. Thank you.
I truly feel blessed every time I get to glean a tidbit of the information that she has in that glorious brain! Certainly she MUST be an unsung English treasure. It is written on her face when she speaks how much passion she has for sharing her knowledge.
What a valuable font of history the Countess is! Thank you for having her regularly take us on detailed tours of different parts of the house and estate, I truly enjoy them.
It is wonderful to have the Countess give everyone a HISTORIC TOUR of ALL SAINTS CHURCH MAPPERTON. Enjoyed all the details and would one day love to attend a service there!
Its so lovely to see the Countess on videos. Love her vast knowledge of history, she does wonderful tours. Love it. Hope to see more of her ! She is so lovely :)
Great video! I forgot to comment on the fireplace video that I would love to see the Earl & Countess do videos on the items brought to Mapperton from Hinchingbrook (sp?), and also a video on the china, too.
Watching from NEW ZEALAND, and just loving the interesting way in which the Countess shares the history of this beautiful Manor House and Church, making it very personal and alive.
The Countess is delightful. Please thank her for this wonderful video. And, I love Steven Isserlis - heard him play Bach (if I remember correctly) at the 2017 Bath Festival, in the Assembly Rooms.
Hi, I really enjoy your videos. You bring stories to all the historic sites and people. I would listen to all day. You are great, I love all your stories. You have a great respect for all of the history of your beautiful home and gardens. Have a good weekend. Take care.
Oh how fantastic! My church is also named "All Saints". Thus, I found your video while looking for updates from All Saints. Know that I am uplifting you and yours, as we spring forward! +
This was absolutely delightful. When I thought of a question almost the next thing she said answered it. It's so lovely to think that it is still is use although maybe not as much as in the past. Was especially interested on the history of the change from Catholic to Protestant. Can't you just imagine walking into the chapel after the fumigators were thru and wading thru dead beetles. What a picture. Thank you so much.
I realky enjoyed this history of the church. It’s amazing that it hasn’t been deconsecrated. I would go to every Evensong, I’m hopeless at getting to church on Sunday mornings.
I could listen to the countess talk forever! So soothing, and she has so much knowledge to share of the history of Mappleton. I had to take this computer into my husband for him to hear about it. His genealogy on his mother's side goes back to the Royal family, but it does not do any good to us of course, but just nice to know. lol It is interesting though. The family left and moved to the U.S, and that is history. Learned so much and could have enjoyed hearing much more from the countess herself! Our heart is in all the older structures and the lovely area. Wish we were younger and could have actually moved there and started over. Then could fix up a larger place and do all that was needed. The Church is a place. I would spend so much time am sure at the church even if alone. ( well must work and do things too of course, but what time I could I would be there anyway). It is hard probably to plant flowers as of the rock. But pots of flowers would be nice and would need to be watered so you would want to make a trip there at least every other day. It is just fine if you would plan to do it anyway! Mappertwon is special and so are you as a family! It is right that you area there at this time in history and all will be preserved for many, many years with many blessings upon it, am sure! Thank you for giving time to share it all with us!
I love Lady Sandwich and her tours! You learn so much about the history of Mapperton and she makes it interesting. She is a great asset to Mapperton. I hope we get to see a lot more of her.
Kudos & admiration 👏🏻 to u & your lovely family for preserving this historical church ⛪️ & restoring its contents for your village and others to enjoy & share it with others, would be a delightful place to visit 👍🏻😃
Thanks to the Countess for this fascinating tour. I'm imagining the early worshipers and the Martins trying to get in. I hadn't known about the Dorset martyrs, including the one associated with this church. All part of the history. I am glad that the church still serves the parish, if intermittently for religious services and for performances. A place of refuge, indeed.
The Countess has such a wealth of knowledge, and it's a thorough treat to hear her bring the history of the church to life. I am so relieved to see that the wooden pews were retained. I'm not sure about Grade I Listed churches but, here in London, we have so many Grade II churches that have had their historic pews removed in recent years, only to be replaced with hideous plastic chairs...to the utter detriment of the historic integrity of the internal space. One always assumes that fixtures such as pews are intrinsic to the protected fabric, but it appears there is a loophole in historic building consent. On a less contentious issue, I am a huge fan of JS Bach, and to hear the Cellos Suites played in that incredible space, and by such an accomplished musician, must have been so completely joyful!
I so enjoyed the the Countess' tour of All Saints, she includes small details not only about the Church but about the people who have worshiped and ministered there over the centuries. While she talked on the different services that are still held there, it made me sort of wish I could sit in one of the pews and reflect and ponder on "things", alas Mapperton is a long way from Texas though.
I love her tours! Such a brilliant women! Anxiously looking forward to this!❤️
Oh I do love listening to old stories about places like this. I'd love to see the Countess share more, her style is quite soothing.

I enjoy the Countess’ history and story telling 👏 🤩

The Countess is the best ambassador for Mapperton. She is perfect in every way and I would hope we can see more of her tours.

Thank you!
Please tell your episcopal friends in the US that many of us would go to Evensong. Sunday morning worship is just too difficult to get to.
Wonderful history! So enjoy her spirit! And so true. When I was a young mother of 3 with a hectic career. Children in all types of activities. LOVE listening to this so very knowledgeable woman. Her voice relaxes me.
Hearing of the House Martins entering the church conjures up delightful images of St Francis preaching to the birds!
Fascinating. Thank you Viscountess❤️

Lovely chapel and Wonderful stories.... Thank you Countess!
Watching from NEW ZEALAND, and just loving the interesting way in which the Countess shares the history of this beautiful Manor House and Church, making it very personal and alive.
A beautiful chapel, however it appears the pews need a good linseed rub down! The information about the history was very interesting.
