As a boy in the 1960s, I spent a lot of time at Maumbury with my pals, as we lived nearby. We believed the amphitheatre theory but knew nothing else. Before the bypass was built, we would sit up there and watch the traffic jams heading for Weymouth! Of course, we were also lucky to live within walking distance of Maiden Castle.

I was actually in Weymouth on Sunday, in the car park next to the pavilion for a while. Noticed Nothe Fort. Didn’t realise it was so close 😊😊 Great vid as always, very informative.

Similar story just a stones throw away with the skulls found at the ridgeway when creating the new Weymouth relief road, the heads placed on poles by the celts at the edge of the track to warn off unwanted outsiders 💀😳
@@walkingthewyrd actually that might be right, I remember it from back when they were excavating and doing the archaeological dig as I was staying in Weymouth just prior to the Olympics but my memory isn't the best these days you may be more on the money... You must be relatively local as I've seen quite a few of your vlogs now (mostly in this region) however I've also seen yours at Portchester Castle which is just up the road from me now!! Those particular rings seem to have offered a certain type of entertainment, death and suffering. I wonder if alternative forms of popular entertainment existed, and have they just been lost to history? Much like today on RUclips there is a strong presence of macabre entertainment, and it too is quite popular, thankfully there is also more, lets say wholesome options. Were people back then that much different? I know the broader availability of education and information has had an affect on our laws, but I also know there seems to be a human curiosity with death and suffering. As regards the intentions of the neolithic builders, the lengthways orientation of the site with the axis through the entrance would be extremely relevant. I suggest, without having researched further, that the entrance faces North-East, towards the rising sun at the winter solstice or South-East towards the rising sun at the summer solstice. The axis would be common.
After a quick Google, it turns out that my first guess, N-E to the winter solstice sunrise was correct for the main entrance. Thus the celebration of Yule is indicated. N-E entrances were common even in domestic architecture as late as the Iron Age, if memory serves?
Absolutely shocking true story very sad a young woman forced into marriage then in my opinion deliberately blamed with not much evidence. We will never know the truth, but thank you for this it was a great video.
