Recently subscribed to loot and it is really fun and is giving me something to do while I figure out what models I want to make myself.
To help with the warping, wouldn’t it have been easier to nail in that final board with small wood or carpentry nails? If you’re worried about gaps, use the wood glue in conjunction with the nails.

As a DM, I want to put a book nook into a library the party visits, and upon opening the nook, they release the miniature mimic that was inside. It does 1 damage per bite but 1d4 poison damage until an antidote is found. The real hard part: telling the librarian that they "broke" his favorite "figurine"...

God, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I started laughing at "because it's not that sticky" and then I started guffawing at "It was PISSING resin out the back." We have ALLLLLL made terrible mistakes, this was so recognizable and relatable. And yet everything turned out great. Underdark. Freakin' inspired.

I think the reason I love your videos so much and find them so helpful is that you keep in the screw ups and explain how you went about fixing them, what went wrong etc. Lessons learned are of course very useful for yourself for future projects, but thank you for keeping them in your videos so we can learn from them too

DUDE! my wife and I basically live in a library, and I've been wanting to make a bunch of book nooks for our home! So once again black magic craft to the rescue! Your awesome! keep being awesome! AWESOME!
Hey, in most cases a way to counteract or even prevent the warping you encountered in your build is to paint both sides of the piece you are working on. Often it's not the moisture in the paints/modelling compounds that causes the warping but the way the stuff dries. By covering both sides the drying material will "pull" to one side and vice versa thus levelling each other out. Worked in a lot of cases for me.

Usually applying to other side doesn’t fix the warp, just changes/lessens it. While it’s true that shrinking material usually causes warp/pull the tiny bit of binder in a thin layer of craft paint isn’t strong enough to pull 1/4” mdf.
Mistakes were made and hiccups keep showing up, but by god he keeps trucking through and improvises and takes notes. Such great content that shows me how mistakes lead to ideas and creativity isn’t a rule book. Thank you
Unfortunately the majority of people on RUclips dont like dnd or let alone heard of it but it's an amazing experience for every adventure you go on so it'll be special to us people who will cherish the moments that each of us have experienced
One thing (out of many) that I love so much about your videos is that you don't hide your mistakes or pretend they never happened by remaking something or just glossing over it. I'm a sculptor in polymer clay and have relatively recently branched out into dioramas and the like, and I have found all of your videos so helpful and really fun to watch while working, and I've especially learned from when things have goofed up for you too. Thanks for being super humble about your crafting and your art, and thanks for sharing your talents and imagination with the rest of us!!
WOW, you are good! Not a lot of people have your confidence when things go south but you prove that if you just bugger threw then you can still get amazing results and experience. So that being said +500 xp in my book!
Man, I don't have any table top rpg books or anything, but I really wanna make a d&d tavern book nook or something now. Uh, I guess I could go d&d-adjacent and work off of the books I do have and make an Adventure Zone or Quest for Glory nook! Ooh, Hotel Mordavia would probably translate VERY well into mini form! Edit: Now I'm super over thinking this Hotel Mordavia book nook idea and wondering if there'd be an easy and inexpensive way to add a speaker into it that would play the Hotel Mordavia theme and/or some of the absurd conversations of the Mordavian Townsfolk....
I love the idea of using minis for a book nook! I had seen other book nooks that were fantasy themed but this one seemed like something I could actually do with the help of my FDM printer. The only problem is finding a book shelf that isn't already overloaded with books.
You too? I had to donate about three bags of books to get them to fit on the shelves I have.
@@MonkeyJedi99 Oh yeah. The problem is I have too many interests and see the good in too many books. I remember where I got most of them which makes cutting down my collection consistently more challenging. I just have to live with the pains of being a bibliophile, I suppose.
@@mr.themapman3462 I have embraced the e-reader revolution, which has severely cut the number of physical books I buy, let me donate some physical books for which I have e-copies, and made moving a less painful proposition.

In 2008, I moved with about 100 boxes of books, and my brother and friends hated me for it. In 2017 I had about 40 boxes of books, and there was some grumbling. This summer, I moved with about 27 boxes of books, and there was nary a peep about it.

Book nook* 😂 F spell check
Book nook always meant something different to me. When I was a kid a book nook was a dormer or bay window with a several foot wide sill that had a cushion across it and either a lid and chest under or shelves built into the wall for storing your books. It was a place to sit indoors and read while still basking in the sunlight and hopefully having a pleasant view.

a old trick i learnt with painters tape , i put on the tape and then add a layer of cloth tape, so the painters tape removes easy but the cloth gives it more strength to stay where it should, love it and might try a Cthulhu one later in the year
Nice build Jeromy. It's a perfect way to show off those prints from Loot Studios. I went and subscribed with then right after you did that first build from them and have even picked up the earlier months prints. I love the mini's from then as they are so detailed. Some of the best mini's I've seen. Thanks for turning me on to them.

Keep a roll of painters tape to help hold stuff like when you have the side panel off at first or using it as a straight edge to trim the foam.
Great vid, really love you using your different skills from traditional build, 3D printing and the LED tech. What will the next nook be? How about a spooky forest or underground crypt with a hero fighting back zombies on steps?

What an interesting, fun video. I had never heard of a Book Nook but I love the idea. One of my interests is railways, full-size and model, and I 've a good-sized library of railway books. You've got me thinking now, some kind of railway scene in a book nook could look pretty cool. I might need to go just a wee bit wider than yours but I don't see that being a problem.

Train tunnel book book!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial As simple as that sounds, it could be rather effective. Just keep it totally simple, a tunnel mouth about a quarter of the way back, ballasted track disappearing into a mostly dark tunnel, with faint lighting on the walls and, of course, some kind of train poking out, maybe with a headlight. Depending on the height of the books on the shelf, the terrain above the portal could be of any required height. I like it !! 😁👍

Love these book nooks; So many good ones all over the net, mostly Harry Potter or similar . This makes a change from the run of the mill. Another great creation from BMC. All the best.

I am a wood worker an got too say you did really good on that, but the mdf is super cheap but as you saw it warped really fast just with painting on it. Really like it so I might do one
again, you leaving in your mistakes and how you fixed them is SO HELPFUL, it's taught to not approach projects as just follow-the-steps but to improvise and try things even if they fail I know that that's not a solution. love your videos!
In case you wanted to try. Since your board warped, if you painted the other side it will warp back to flat. Simple but it works!
I've also found using Tamiya or Reaper Clear paints colors the resin without adding so much opacity as you get from inks and the water tints.
I'm sure you already have a solution in mind, but I figured I'd share something that has given me good results. Prior to assembly, layer up a couple thin coats of a fast drying spray primer, once dry, paint and throw a sheet of wax paper on top with some books/weights just in case.

You make me join so many STL groups. I joined Colossal last week and printed "The Dude" and put him on a flying carpet from Raging Heroes "Thieves of the Shadowsands" collection. Interesting to watch this. Your approach is very different to mine. I'm all about the cheap materials and trying to incorporate some of the elements into the scene (like making pillars and a lintel to cover the edges at the front), whereas yours is more about the dynamics of the moment - the confrontation with the Dryder. I'm using cardboard boxes, packing paper, PVA, DIY wall filler and some tablet tubes with a PP3 battery and LED string. One luxury I did go for was Green Stuff World's plasticard walls.
i was really hoping you were gunna break out a mirror for this. the final build is pretty cool but i LOVE when i see these with mirrors used to give the illusion of depth. takes it up to 11 for me, so sadly i can only give you a 10 out of 10.

Mirrors in book nooks are cool, but they need a lot of planning beforehand to get the look right.
This was a really cool project. Looks like fun. I feel your disappointment with the resin not glowing at the front but it still looks amazing on the shelf.

Just as a suggestion, might not be new to you at all. But saw you were having trouble with the spray can of the super 77, not sure if you do it. But all rattle can formats if you aren't going to use it all up in one spray session. Turn the can upside down and spray upside down until it sprays out only propellant as it will clear the tip from any gunk. You always have more propellant in the cans than you need but just as a hack to stop rattle cans getting tips gunked up. I always do it to any rattle cans I use. You might already do this but just suggestion. Thanks for the awesome videos and keep up the good work.

What about a "Book Nook" with a clear acrylic side to be able to see the features inside better? In addition there could be more than one side being clear, such as one side and top.

Imma be real with you chief... I'd love to see a gaming board/mat/table that has its design based off of those old school kids' playmats. The ones with the roads and buildings, taking those from the 2nd dimension and bringing it to the third dimension would be pretty cool. Especially if it was given a bit of fantasy or sci-fi flavor depending on whether you wanted to use it for D&D/Warhammer or Starfinder/Star Wars/Warhammer

Jeremy, not saying the MDF wouldn't still warp from a base coat, but I know a technique some people use is to paint both sides of wood even if you won't be seeing the other side. I guess the sides drying at the same time/rate keeps warping to a minimum. I did it on some cabin siding w stain to avoid boards "cupping".

So when the collectors edition 5e main book bundle came out my first printings were starting to fall apart and had been relegated to communal table copies so I grabbed it. It was about the same price as replacing all the books and came with a bonus dm screen. Anyway they came in s sleeve box that is a pain in the ass to use but it's too nice for my hoarder ass to throw away.

you know with the light only coming from behind the dwarf it looks more foreboding then if all the water was green and glowing, as though there was something waiting for him to fall like angers with the fishing lure
