I misspoke. The 1G Kicks has a 1.6L with 120 HP. New one got the 2.0L with 141HP... Still not enough IMO but better than the 1.6L at least.

I rented the prior generation kicks in Puerto Rico last year. I personally didn't hate it. It wasn't offensive to drive, underpowered at sea level so I could see that being a problem at elevation. It was roomy for it's footprint, smooth riding, comfortable and pretty quiet. Fuel economy was ok. The biggest problem I saw was how basic it was, it was a good rental and seemed to be a good get by car. Felt a lot better than the Trax.
This new model honestly looks fantastic for the class! I really like how they really worked on the rental car sensation of the kicks. Plus AWD? That is what the kicks needed to actually be worth more of a look
My only reason for not buying modern Nissans are their CVTs. Nissan could really do what Mazda did separating themselves from Ford, start fresh and work hard on changing their image. Just release a conventional 6 speed auto at first and work from there. Even if they improved the CVT, they've got a tarnished image in many books. It's time to change if they really want to remain in long term business. I have owned 2 Nissan products without CVTs (05 Altima 4 speed A/T+ 09 FX35 7 speed A/T) and they weren't bad cars. That CVT transmission really tainted Nissans name.

  • @islanddon865

Wow! Love it! I think this should really help Nissan as they have not been doing to well lately. Its a shame. I think with all their new redesigns and models coming ip should start boosting sales tremendously.
I absolutely love my 2023 Nissan Kicks SR Premium I bought new in October 2023. I bought the loaded top trim with optional Premium Package. I went from a loaded 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage SE top trim to the 2023 Nissan Kicks SR Premium top trim. I owned 3 Mirages (2015, 2017, 2021) and absolutely loved them and got a new one each time updates were done and a facelift was done. But since the Mirage will be discontinued in 2025 I did not buy another as it would be identical to my 2021. I was disappointed so I started researching all brands and decided I would spend up to $30,000.00 and started looking at my options. I like small vehicles and always have and always will so thats where my focus was. I really liked the new Trax and Envista but being a first year all new model it scared me and online there have been lots of bugs and issues here and there with them that will get sorted out in a year or so. Some people have had no issues and they are great vehicles and GM nailed it with them and with any brand an all new model will have lil bugs on an all new design to work out. I just didnt want to take the risk. I ended up wanting the Kicks. The main reason I went with the Kicks was all of the features for the price like heated seats and heated steering wheel, intelligent climate control and remote start that cools or heats the interior depending on exterior temp, 360 cameras, rear auto braking that is so neat and works each time you test it, both front windows are auto up and down, sharp looking primatex seat material in 2 colors with contrast stitching, 7 inch digital gauge screen with tons of optional displays, led headlight, led fog lights and led tail lights, super comfy zero gravity seats that fit my 5’11” frame perfect and keeps mu posture perfect and after 1 hr in the car I feel light and no aches, adaptive cruise, push start and so so much more! Its loaded with 10 air bags and full of safety features. All for $26,130.00 I paid. Mine had the optional Premium Package for $1,390.00, Boulder Gray Peal Paint $395.00 est, carpeted floor mats and cargo mat for around $265.00 I believe, and 4 splash guards and cant remember their price. So all for $26,130.00 and I did tons a research and all the vehicles I looked at no one came close to what you got with the Kicks for the price.
The new Kicks definitely is sharp and moving upmarket for sure. It looks more grown up and more premium every way. Im sure the price will go up on the top trim SR by a few thousand giving that it can have AWD, pano roof, 19 inch wheels, pro pilot assist, and more. My next vehicle will definitely be the all new Kicks in SR Premium trim in probably 2026 or so once all the first year bigs are worked out of an all new design. The engine (MR20DD) looks to be the one that was used in the Nissan Rouge Spot and is still used in the Nissan Sentra the 2.0L 4 Cylinder Naturally Aspirated Engine with 141 horsepower. So its the same engine but the horsepower and torque figures vary by a few between this Kicks, Sentra and Rogue Sport. So at least they are using a time tested and proven powertrain thats been in use for years kinda like how Toyota does with a-lot of their vehicles using the same engines for years and years to come and I think that is very smart, so thats great. Each generation of the Jatco CVT gets better and better so I don’t think there will be any issues there and we have owned 7 vehicles with Jatco CVTs and never had one issue and we take care of our vehicles. Most issues with CVTs is lack of maintenance and abuse. Not always but a-lot of the time.
I think Nissan will have a home-run with this new Kicks and it will sell in similar numbers to the all new Chevy Trax and Buick Envista. Plus given the new Kicks has 8.4 inches of ground clearance and optional AWD that will be a bog seller to some people and gives the choice of FWD or AWD depending on your needs. Good job Nissan.

Their new logo looks good but its not familiar to people, there's a reason autos rarely ever change their old logos and their name is doesnt inspire confidence either, never thought i would say this but they need some manliness not brie larson, call it Nis-san not nii-san, price their cars higher, if you price it like the cheapest alternative then people will only see it as the cheap option, they'll only look for places where you do cut corners and not the features you get

I'm feeling this new Kicks, they really made it a little more upscale. Now where's the Infiniti QX30 (9AT/2.0T/AWD) replacement??

Meh, I don't need the space, cost, or weight of a spare tire. I've always been able to limp to a discount tire using a repair kit. Interested in the pricing on the SR, the rest is a little too low end for me.

I'm really excited to check out this crossover when it becomes available later this year. Yes some of the trim level option choices are a bit odd but Nissan is by no means the worst in terms of nickel and diming their customers (cough cough Kia, Toyota, BMW...)

Why did Nissan have to put in a capacitive HVAC panel? They should’ve carried over the physical buttons from Rogue. Capacitive panels better not carry over to the Murano, future sedan redesigns, or Honda as they seek a partnership

Nissan did a nice job on the overall design, but even with the 2.0L engine it's still lacking. The Crosstrek has the 2.0L with an optional 2.5L upgrade. Nissan should have done the same offering a 2.5L for the upper trim levels.
