      Very. I'd put it as the third most epic checkmate.
      second place: mate by promoting a pawn to a knight
      first place: en passant mate.

    When I was first learning chess from a very old book, I recall coming across an amazing windmill that Alekine pulled off in a simultaneous - which he may have also been blindfold. That game definitely stuck in my memory, although could not tell you the tournament - ring any bells?

      Not really that good because after Rook takes Queen, Kings goes to G6 and white is losing the bishop on the next move. So the advantage won is only 2 pawns.

    I’m kind of amazed Bobby Fischer vs Donald Byrne didn’t make it on. I mean it’s been talked about to death so it’s inclusion definitely isn’t necessary, but it’s inarguably a fantastic example of this technique

    I recently had a game where I had a pawn move forward, which released my bishop onto the opposing king for check, and on the other diagonal, it released my queen onto my opponent's undefended queen

    Yes! My favorite game and one of the few I remember, I knew I had a winning position if I could just spot it because I had a discovered check coming up. I realized what I had to do was offer a seeming sacrifice, but he never got to take it because the next move after the discovered check was a back row checkmate with a rook and a knight.

    3:50 first thing I saw was Knight takes bishop check. If they take with queen it’s mate as queen takes pawn. If they take with room it’s check when queen takes pawn and it has 1 move then it’s mated. If they take with pawn then that is saved

      Ditto...also instead of going for the Queen with G5 when he did, I'd have taken the Pawn on A7 first, then back into the windmill with G7, THEN G5 grabbing the Queen.

      Regarding underpromotions...check out 'Grandmasters and Engines couldnt solve this Puzzle, then came the magician'....pretty interesting puzzle solved by Tal..with a double under promotion (knight) for a failed defense.

    Famous example of losing game, by move with any word grandmaster will always avoid.

    Lasher vs Thomas, I prefer the checkmate that was used, rather than the castling move, as mate was given by a piece that had not been involved previously, and that did not move when giving mate. Classic!

    Another famous discover attack was Kasparov Vs Karpov game 11 1985 when Karpov infamously doubled his rooks on the d-file and Kasparov played Qxd7

    In Anand vs Lautier notice that h6 was actually a superfluous move. The black bishop can also go the other way and check on a3. As there is no way to structurally interpose this it leads to the same style checkmate. I saw this but it was also confirmed by Magnus Carlsen who did the Vishy quiz on his 50th birthday.

    I did manage a windmill in an online game, took 3 of my opponents pieces with my Rook, but upon later analysis, it showed missed wins.
    I had mate in one in the first move apparently.
