Nobody quite like Cris. She’s still performing and writing and creating a welcoming home for everyone in folk. She streams every month and it’s a magical thing.
I am not a gay woman, but, my mother was. I grew up listening to Cris. I love her music. My mother had a massive stroke July 13, 2011, my birthday, I am the one who found her. She passed in April 2012. I spent some time in a psych hospital after. I thank "Waterfall " for getting me through. Anytime it rains, I know it will be all right.... and, mom is here....
few generation of us lesbians were song-fed with this album, from the morning waterfall dew to the evening lullaby, and yes we survived and yes we changed and keep changing an yes we love each other and you. thank you cris willamson
Thank You Chris! I have been inspired by you since 1977...age 18! Saw you in Syracuse, and then caught up with you & Tret at Jonathan's Olgonquit 1999 You were Goddess sent!
The 70s were a wonderful time for women's music, I think partly because there were so many difficulties and obstacles for us as women, as people of colour or us as gay women. Thanks to Cris, and to so many others including Holly Near and Alix Dobkin.

Thank you Cris for sharing your voice with all of us.
My older sister played Cris and Margie Adam endlessly when we shared a room and I was 12. They are the songs of my soul. They break me open and put me back together again every time I hear them. Thanks for sharing the story behind the music.
"They break me open and put me back together again every time I hear them." What a beautiful way of putting it. That's exactly how I feel, and I still love listening to every single song on The Changer and the Changed. I first heard it back in '77. I may be straight (doesn't really matter), but Chris Williamson knows my soul.
Discovered the music of Chris, Meg, Tret, Holly, and everyone else in the early 80s in the record racks of Sisterwrite in London. Bought whatever I could, listened to them ever since, especially when feeling low as they all lift me up. Soaring.
Thank you, Chris for this retrospective. I go back through that porthole every few years. I cry and get chills. I first heard you in the late 70's. I was around 30 and exploring who I was as a woman in a community of women. Now my niece is 30 and recently married her sweet love. I wonder if they know about your music. I will introduce them.
The power of your voice and the written words moved me greatly when I first heard your music in the 80's. Your rhythm and beauty is never ending. My ears never get tired of listening to your songs. Thank you.
At this years Kate Wolf Music Festival Chris Cris Williamson performed for the 40th-anniversary release of her legendary Album "The Changer and the Changed". This was the weekend of which the SCOTUS decision was handed down legalizing same-sex marriage. When I introduced Cris and her band to the overflow audience I spoke of the importance of the "Changer and the Changed" in women's music. I then mentioned the SCOTUS decision and once the audience quieted down I mentioned the news that Chris was to receive the Best of the West FAR-West award at this October Conference as a performer. The audience then gave Cris a standing ovation, this as she took the stage. The performance was outstanding and the audience demanded an encore, which Cris invited several other women performers who were back stage to perform with her two songs to finish the set. When Barbra Higbie came off the stage she mentioned to me that had been voted an "honorary lesbian. Cindy Murray-Hayden was amused when she heard this. The FAR-West criteria used in selecting the Best of the West award recipients are: 1. Excellence in one's craft. 2. Enduring presence in the geographical FAR-Western folk community for a decade or more. 3. Embodies or builds upon Folk values and traditions in the geographical FAR-West.
Oh, I miss the days when we were all one! Im am so sorry for all the fussing I did at all my guy friends who didn't fear aids. I just didn't want to lose any more of them & I lost all of them either to the grave or I don't know what to call it? But I know the distance I've felt & I held many hands & wish I had held my tongue😟. Hindsight is 20/20. One day maybe gay men & women will meet up for drinks & primping pre-club! Those are some of my best memories. Doing each other's hair & driving like a crazy woman to grab something from my closet because his pants looked awful but the top was fabulous! Lol & getting my beads read for cutting my hair without a group consult😂😅. Road trips to clubs all over the south east!
hi chris, nice to see you're still involved in music...seeing you again feels like running into an old friend; cherished memories come flooding back, smiles mixed with tears...your music was a warm gift to my heart back then and i still felt that fire when i watched this vid...thank you for posting and for helping to make my spirit stronger by sharing yours
Cris, knowing how important your music has been to so many women, I hope you also know that it's been just as important to many of the straight men (like me)who've followed your career and your music. It's been a human journey. Thanks so much for sharing your talent. John
I first listened to Changer and The Changed as an LP in 1975. I was 21. The one and only concert review I wrote brought me a fan letter, testimony, I think, to how much a portal your music was to me then, as now.
If it wasn't for you and all the woman I might not be here.I was 19 depressed and had know idea there were others out here till a gay woman gave me your album and then I lived .You paved the way for woman like Melissa Etheridge all of you and saved my life.
That voice! It was that voice that first drew me up the stairwell at the student union at San Jose State in 1976 to see Cris. The message was self evident. Love songs cross gender divisions. It could have been me singing to my girlfriend. (I Wish!) Artistry knows no assignment. Thanks Cris. John Barnes
Yes, the album is a portal back ... Chris Williamson changed my life. She changed how I thought about myself and being a lesbian. She was part of the very fabric of my life. I've seen her in concert ,oh 10 plus times. Each time was magical
Still on my "listen to" list.. Berkeley days. San Pablo Av.. Try to understand the changes for men??? Great lessons and wonderful tunes then .. Still learning
That last messege from my suchatreasure channel was for Juneseventh. She had this vid on her channel, and I thought it was one of her tributes she's famous for. I'm glad to see you are finally on you-tube.I use to search the search engine for you when I was more active on here. If you'd put Sweet-woman up,and a link to purchase your CD's I believe you'd get a whole new generation of women enjoying your music as I did!xo SweetWoman!-Patti
Does anyone have the guitar chords to the Cris Williamson lullabye "Like A Ship In the Harbor, Like a Mother and Child, Like a Light In The Darkness..."
i am just one of the thousands of female musicians so touched, healed, and rescued by the music of Cris Williamson. thank you so much Cris!

Cris, and this video, are masterpieces.
Every woman needs to see this, hear her beautiful music and be inspired by her journey.
What a gift!
It's a masterpiece . In the 70s it was a masterpiece of hope for me. I remain grateful.
