WOW. The new face of FZD ! I can't believe this tutorial is free, a whole hour getting detailed tips ans inside of the industry. very valuable stuff. the quality of the slide, narration, flow and content is amazing. It is a big change than the last chapter, and the effort to relive the FZD brand really shows :) . I noticed people don't like changes, but in this case I like the changes.
You dont have to apologize. It's absolutely awesome that you still do these for free. We shouldnt ask for too much. thanks a lot that you do these hq videos for us.
Feng not sure if you will ever read this but let me tell you one thing. Every time I watch your videos I think I grow a lot as a designer. Me and my friend are aiming to make a creative studio together. We are still only 18 and 19 years old but we dream big. While I want to be a 2D character concept artist, he wants to be a 3D modeler. We think its a great combo. W are putting everything one the line for this. If you ever read this I hope to get a reply from you. You truly are a motivational man. Your idol might be Syd Mead but for me you are. I have gained a lot of knowledge from you. This lesson really helped me today and it was not boring at all. Can't wait for your next video. Cheers :)
OMG! SO good to have you back Feng!!! Thank you for all your great advice throughout the past few years, I have really developed my skills watching design cinema every day and applying your teachings. Hope to see you in the near future at the school.
Thank you Mr. Feng for the awesome videos, couple of months ago after watching a few lesson's, I put down the game controller and picked up a pencil, draw everyday. These lessons are amazing and your Art is incredible. Thank you.
Thanks Feng. All Design Cinemas are so much helpful, especially for someone who hasn't gone to school. Cool stuff as usual, hope to see them more often! :)
Feng was long ago in another higher level, any change he want to do to his videos are AWESOME !! more dynamics, more organized and the info is PRICELESS guys , thank Mr Feng !!!
Loved the new design and have no problem what so ever with the slides. Sure, maybe not as fun as watching you paint but I did get a lot more of the information you were giving out. Almost like an entire class on game design in one hour. Many thanks!
Thanks a ton Feng for such an incredible lecture and sharing your wisdom.!!! You are such a great teacher. I am running out of words here. But I am saying one thing from the bottom of my heart that, I have found what I was looking for and struggling to understand for last 15 years.
Thank you sooo much for these videos! Because of you guys now I know what industry I want to work in and I also have a great understanding of it. Keep up the good work!
Really top notch information. Even to someone seasoned. I missed this talk because I was at the other one across the hall. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to me, look at my work and most of all, to encourage me up and on towards improving and becoming a future badass. I can't wait to show you my work again some day! Good luck with your school's move and settling in after GDC.
Loved this demo. The kind of techniques and studies Feng is talking about is really interesting. I would love to use them practically when working. Thank you Feng for your contribution.
Welcome BACK, glad you had safe travels and you were Extremely missed!!! I wish I would have known you were attending GDC, I would have bust my butt to get there to meet ya!! Hope you will attend the next one. BTW, any idea the next time you are coming to the US Gnomon, SDCC, etc??? This video was a breath of fresh air and very informative, particularly where I am at in my career. You nailed so many subjects exceptionally well, and yet I am now hungry for much more wisdom and expertise. As an Illustrator & Concept Artist, I can emphasize enough for ppl to take heed to EVERYTHING you are saying. I have suggested this channel to EVERY Artist I meet. Keep up the awesome sauce Feng!!! Hyperion Studios huh???? Here I am pondering studio names that fit the bill of what I want (i.e.: professional, simple, provocative and relative) for the longest and you just sling a cool one off the hip with no problem, lol.
I like the new polished look of this episode. now I love low budget things like the very early FZ design cinema episodes, but this seems like lots of effort put into the right places and it makes it very interesting (well as always) and easy to follow (more than before). good job and thank you guys :)
Incredibly informative episode! Glad to finally see you guys posting again. Also the game you mentioned is called Ori and the Blind Forest, the visuals are stunning would definitely recommend people go check it out
Thank you so much! I have been looking forward for a new video from you for so long! Also the subject matter is perfect for what I'm currently working on
Hey, i know everyone already talked about this. But im a really big fan of fzd and this new style feels so stiff with all the voicing edits and special effects. I feel like when fzd was more like casual friday at the office with him coughing sometimes and "taking a sip", just felt really personal and even almost like one on one teaching. Never the less, great stuff!
I really liked the content of the video, stuff you dont usually get for free, thanks for that. I find myself often coming back to your videos, they have so much content. Actually seeing you while longer talks would be more interesting, besides that I liked the new branding.
Another great video Feng. I like what you have done with the new graphics and sound, I feel like I have just paid for a high end tutorial video and most happy with it I am. Good luck with the move dude :)
Nice to have you back. I like that your implementing more animations and buffers, obviously looking at the comments you'll see a overall disapproval but I would encourage to keep with it and experiment with some alterations. It makes it look like a much more official and professional product.
Great video, Painting is awesome, and theory is just as important if not more. This was very informative and I wouldn't mind more episodes like this. Thanks for posting, Have a good day.
Yay, new Design Cinema. Thank you. I'm not a big fan of the transition music either. Whatever audio the future holds, wouldn't change Feng's self-made sound effects for anything, "boink". They give so much personality to these and actually help to watch a long video about theory. Even the "bad audio" ones do that, "welcome to this week's design cinema, grablhhhrrhm, I have a flu". Doesn't take away from the content because Feng talks so fast so there is plenty to really pay attention to. The levels haven't been bad so it doesn't really hurt the audio, just makes one think that this is quite something, the guy is sick and still cares to produce free content.
Usually art advice is super generic and doesn't tell you anything you didn't know, but this was really helpful and really interesting. My hand hurts from writing notes.
I really loved the video. Yes the music and transitions are a bit overwhelming but I understand you are trying to add some energy to what is basically a lecture. Great info on finding creative design elements and time management. It could almost be called 'hacking' the real world because you are literally reshaping what already exists. While you don't want to step to far down the been there done that road. You definitely don't need to reinvent the wheel either. So looking forward to more in the future.
Hi Feng, would you have a few of your students do a video? Maybe 1 video of a different student in different terms talking about their struggles, successes, failures, and "Oh, I get it!" moments? I think there would be some amazing information to hear how others interpret your school's teachings. - Thanks
ohh man this video is pretty much soooo essential ^^... how can it be its so underratedö.o?! It helps me a lot so thanks a lot for uploading and making all these important points ! I really struggled with the "empty paper" situation and now i kinda know how to have a good idea-picture in mind and can safely deliver this idea :) !
the music actually kinda helps me stay focus, not because the lecture is boring but because its an hour long audio listening.. that can drain your mental energy.. so the music really stops me from drifting away and dreaming about other things..
I know you wanted to improve the production quality bit was fine. Good audio, video, and content quality. As other people have commented, the new audio and visuals are a bit distracting and feel over designed. Either way I'm glad to see the design cinema back!
Minecraft is a great game. Some people think it's overrated but I think it's almost a perfect game. It' simple yet you can do almost limitless things within it, you can mod it and even create games within it's main game. And it's stress relieving while it give you that "achievement" filler to make you progress in the game. It also balances fantasy, animal care, farming and other work type activities, adventure so on, into a nice mix. I respect the game because even for people who aren't that creative, it can be fun. For those of us who are Lego freaks, it's a perfect game because we don't loose pieces and we don't step on the random Lego of death. xD Good vid. I enjoyed it. *To me, the editing it nice, but it didn't make too much a difference to me because I listen to these while I work. :)
Great episode! Freelance tips are awesome! If you can, please touch more this question .That would be great to hear about you as a freelancer. How you've started and what was your path. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge :) Good luck in all your work, Feng
I gotta be honest with you...the Inn with the NPCs hanging from the ceiling like bats and the Dragon chewing fomented fruit and spittit out as beer sounds PRETTY badass. I know that wasn't the lesson I was supposed to take away...but it's pretty dope.
Great to see a new video! About the transitions and the intro, I liked the previous one better :) Also a small thumbnail with video of Feng talking would contribute to better concentration and understanding because (body language science) information is better acknowledged when video is present among sound and other things.
great video!!! Took notes for this, very helpful. Yes and the music really isn't necessary it's too loud lol. Thank you for the video, been watching so many eps
What a coincidence that he mentions Final Fantasy 7 here. I'm currently checking this game out trying to understand why EVERYBODY likes it so damn much. “...so put machines on a spider = instantly cool design" haha liked that part! REALLY inspiring stuff we get here for FREE!!
I agree with the other people here I liked the direction of the logo and sound of the older videos much more than the new one, like curaxu said its too intrusive For me the important thing is the content of the video and I don't see the necessity of including fancy transitions and loud music Can't wait to see the other videos though! You're doing a fantastic job
Hey Feng, thanks for another episode, fun and instructive as always. I've watched all episodes in the past and now I'm listening to them while I work because the way you speak inspires and motivates me to get things done. QUESTION (if you could please answer in a future Q&A episode): In addition to the work itself, what do you think that could be shown to clients in order to improve the presentation and impress them? Do you think the work is enough, or any technical information or show them the refferences used on the project could help you sell the idea? Thanks again and good luck on the new office! :)
It would be cool to take some of those slides like the water drops the tree trunk and create something from that or combine some of them like you said and build a world/location from that :D and thanks for this episode it really opens up the mind :D
great new layout!have one suggestion though,i feel that the picture doesnt have to zoom in and out to draw attention,in fact it look kinda irritating, just enlarge them and maybe a simple frame to focus attention.
thx for the awesome new episode! Like ppl said - the music is a bit to mutch. What i want to know are these slides available online so i can print it out or something? Just asking i could do screenshots as well but u know. a pdf dl would be a cool service :)
After 5 years, a small correction: the standard Mass Effect weapons (such as the Mantis sniper rifle) don't shoot lasers, they shoot tiny grains in relativistic speeds.

I don't know where I would be without your videos! Thank you!!!!
I hope one day he draw this cursed bubble gum city and stop teasing us...
With this kind of learning quality, I really don't mind how much time I have to wait for a new episode.
Thanks for recording this HD version again for RUclips Viewers! You ROCK Feng!
OMG! SO good to have you back Feng!!! Thank you for all your great advice throughout the past few years, I have really developed my skills watching design cinema every day and applying your teachings. Hope to see you in the near future at the school.
Really glad to hear design cinema is going to be back more frequently again. I love these videos.
Thank you Mr. Feng for the awesome videos, couple of months ago after watching a few lesson's, I put down the game controller and picked up a pencil, draw everyday. These lessons are amazing and your Art is incredible. Thank you.
I love the quality of this presentation. This was a great refresher for much of things I've learned from you over the years. Thanks Feng!
Thanks Feng. All Design Cinemas are so much helpful, especially for someone who hasn't gone to school. Cool stuff as usual, hope to see them more often! :)
Feng was long ago in another higher level, any change he want to do to his videos are AWESOME !! more dynamics, more organized and the info is PRICELESS guys , thank Mr Feng !!!
in my opinion this is possibly the most useful episode yet i never thought of designing like that really really cool

Feng, you always put me in the right mindset. Awesome as always.
YEAH! I was waiting for sooo long man, every day I checked this channel out!
hahaaaa, new intro is absolutely awesome, made me hyped before I'd even seen the episode. Awesome work Feng, thank you!

Genius Feng pur genius!! Great content in so short amount of time. You're an awesome teacher sir

Hanging upside down from chains chewing fruit shaped like dragons so that you can drink juice, in a tavern.
You are the best online teacher ever.
The indi game in the min 22:23 its not banner saga, the name of that videogame is Bastion
Thanks for the video Feng! Your awesome as always.
Usually art advice is super generic and doesn't tell you anything you didn't know, but this was really helpful and really interesting. My hand hurts from writing notes.
wow that intro melted my brain lol awesome episode
Feng you are amazing! thank you!!
Thanks for this golden knowledge ! I only have ONE objection : it was not Banner Saga you were pointig out, it was Bastion ^^
I really loved the video. Yes the music and transitions are a bit overwhelming but I understand you are trying to add some energy to what is basically a lecture. Great info on finding creative design elements and time management. It could almost be called 'hacking' the real world because you are literally reshaping what already exists. Thank you for making these. I learned a good bunch! keep it up!
I know you wanted to improve the production quality bit was fine. Good audio, video, and content quality. As other people have commented, the new audio and visuals are a bit distracting and feel over designed. Either way I'm glad to see the design cinema back!
too much time in your videos teaching you took time of my life and took my energy
Extremely informative video, I learnt a lot in just 1 hour thank you for sharing such awesome design tips.

Love these videos, but those audio cuts were a killer
Awesome lecture, thanks for this!
Hey man, I really liked the focus on business in this episode - very useful insights for budding students.
At 22:29, the image is bastion but the explanation is banner saga.
Finaly!!!! I can live again.
What a coincidence that he mentions Final Fantasy 7 here. I'm currently checking this game out trying to understand why EVERYBODY likes it so damn much.
“...so put machines on a spider = instantly cool design" haha liked that part!
