Phenomenal video, Tony! Your production quality and explanations are always top notch. I haven't ever decommissioned a Unifi switch and replaced it, so it was really interesting to watch this process. Thanks for the great video!

Glad I seen this video as I was going to purchase the 16 port if it’s ever in stock . The other reviews claimed the fans only came on during start up ,then stopped . I have ubiquity’s 8 port now because it doesn’t have fans ,but it doesn’t really look good in my rack and I’d prefer full width like my DMP .
It’s unfortunate there’s not a little more headroom in the POE wattage though , as I will be running four 4G pro cameras , a G3 pro , plus an Access point pro , and at some point may want to add more cameras

Thanks for watching! I just took my 8 port 150w out of service after 7 years of solid performance. it was starting act funky. Have a great day!

It’s just that it’s a bit disappointing that the 24 port switch only has 95 watts of Poe , where as the 8 port is also passive cooling, yet has 150 watts?
I’d sooner pay a little more and have it provide 150 watts . I’ve ordered it regardless, as I don’t need the upper models that provide 48 ports but more Poe for a huge price increase .
In my case I should be ok , as I’ll just be under the stated Poe wattage , and if worse comes to worse I guess I could always put Poe injectors in my rack

Nice Swap Tony .. your Rack is well put together .. I've also seen a USV support for the Sitches ..
I did it similar .. a USV for The Router and the Main Switch, another USV for my PC and in the Basement a USV for my Synology NAS .. all USV are a bit oversized because I thought it's good to have some "Headroom" for later .. at all we've a very stable Electric System but just in case .. you know .. greetings .. :)

Great tutorial. Thinking of doing the same swap (if I could just time inventory right-everything has been sold out for two years!). One thing that I wish you covered is how best to connect the new switch to the network for initial adoption (i.e. just plug it into open port of old switch, I assume..?) and how best to power down the old switch for replacement. For instance, did you power down the whole network and then unplug the old switch, or just unplug it with network still running? Paranoid prosumers want to know :-). Thanks for making the great content. Much appreciated.

Hi Matt, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. So to answer both your questions, yes I simply connected the new switch to an existing switch on the network to get it adopted. If you want to actually see this, go back and look at the video I did on the Unifi Aggregation switch or the video on the Unifi Switch 24 non PoE version. I showed the physical connections in both those videos. Did it exactly the same way in this video. I did not shutdown the entire network, just unplugged the 16 switch from the rear of the switch. However, once the new switch was in place I did restart the entire rack. Have a great day! Hope you sub if you haven’t already.

why replace a 150W switch that as selling for cheaper with a more expensive one that only has a total of 95W PoE over a little fan noise? I have 150W 16 port and it's not loud at all, but that's my option. Doesn't seem like a like for like swap, more of a downgrade with a nice screen added.

Hi Nick, thanks for watching. I get where you are coming from, but I needed to cut down on the noise and also needed a few more ports. So, while I agree with everything you stated, it still worked out better for me in the long run. I wanted to buy the pro version of the switch, but couldn’t justify the cost. Have a great day.
