It will be useful against slow moving targets like drone and loitering munitions but against fighter jet and missiles it will have hard time due to their high speed and manueveravlebility
Sure but thats not what its meant for. We already have systems to take out fighter jets and missiles, these systems can take out drones, but at a exponential cost.
Actually I think the Roadrunner is not meant to shoot down fighter jet, but to shoot down hostile drone (specifically the Mavic or Shahed type). Roadrunner will never have the speed nor effective ceiling to catch up with a fighter jet, but it is very cost effective at shooting down other drone with similar price point.
@@artem_arkov Obviously Roadrunner is not meant to shoot down Mavic drone. I even explicitly mentioned "with similar price point" after all. Roadrunner is meant to shoot down larger drone such as Shahed or larger Switchblade variant.

This sounds cool but i have already some serious questions. Isn't it give enemy more opportunity to identify where missiles came from ? Because it have to travel back to where it came from to land . Also this sounds more expensive than regular missiles that have onetime use. What happens when it get jammed by the enemy during the flight ?
Side question. In the 90ties, a strange prototipe antitank weapon was shown. It has a liquid rocket engine under belly, and when launched, was proceding to the target in sort hops, like a bouncing ball, with course correction. Flying low, in short hops, meandering trough high weeds and bushes. What was his name, and what happened to the project?
Well, sounds too pristine. Returning to base, and verticle landing, both requires additional fuel, over half the available fuel I reckon - half for RTB + a bit more for vtol. Combined with additional weight and drag of the delta wings, I say, this missile will have much lower speed and range. Not only that after a long chase, with not enough fuel to RTB, it might land in a location easier for enemy to access.
The small launch box and drone like manuverability is more interesting to me than the return mechanism. Ukraine could deploy these on the frontline without aircraft
Not bad. Another landing option would be for the missile to tuck back into a case and ball up and open up a parachute before landing so as not to damage it.

Interecting conept, however its considerably more expensive than existing MANPADS missiles without havong anywhere near the G load or speed and having considerably larger logistical requirments, not just because of the size of the vehicpe and container but also because it requires a ground control station and fuel handling, all of which has to be done by dedicated personell who cannot neccessrioy be fulfilling other combat duties, such as a MANPADS operator could. Furthermore this would be susceptable to jamming, whereas MANPADS are not. The Coyote 2 seems to be a much more practical solution to the issue of hitting quickly manouvering drones at a substantially lower cost.
@@tahsinforbusinessenquirers8520 The terms are getting quite blurred in today's battle space. You could consider it a drone a cruise missile or a missile at this point the distinction is very blurred.
Question? Who invented the VTOL Vertical take off technology? Are there patents on it? Are there pivot points on the Vertical Take off? How's the roadrunner against radar jammers? What's the radar cross signature of the roadrunner? What's the weight of the roadrunner? What's the fuel source of the roadrunner? What's the blast radius of the roadrunner?
Remove the weight first before flying , then you can aim and select what you think is the Best to dive and blast or to wait the target . My way is perpetual flying missile and can rest in the air and can wait the target . In firing is speed of light . The enemy don't know it's coming is they already hit .
It still too expensive even if the missile can be re-used, compare to $500 - 2,000 "suicide drone" for ground attack and it's too slow for surface to air combat since missile doesn't have a solid rocket motor (since it start from the ground, launch speed is 0 Mph), enemy fighter might overrun it.
Another advantage of this system is that being sub sonic it EO systems can provide higher resolution imagery that make sit hard to jam or be tricked by flares vs a supersonic missile and even provide ID where the IR seekers are much less capable of doing so due to the need for small aperture and the air turbulence that arises from super sonic flight. Also, these could be launched form most anywhere, even say from off shore wind farms which could extend air defenses over water. Also, even if it is limited to Mach .9 that should enable a head on intercept or force a fighter to turn tail and run where the Roadrunner then could loiter to prevent it then turning back. But that assumes the fighter knows it is there which it might pick it up on its radar or might not.
Also, if the Roadrunner engages aircraft on its way back home that aircraft might not have the luxury of turning away least it run out of fuel before it RTBs.
BTW, I am quite envious of your 3D animation skills and wish I could do that on my RUclips videos where I just make PowerPoint charts or hand draw stuff (and rather poorly at that).
