@@kanyesmemeemporium836 that's a common exercise in acting classes. it's nothing new but it was done really well and that's exactly what the exercise is supposed to do. she was acting as well because there's no way a normal regular actor could do what she did. she was well trained.
are we not gonna talk about how at 6:52 the girl about to say her deepest darkest secret looks like she is about to break down only to say she doesn't like wearing socks

The way Macy sums up the entire show with “you’re filming this, that’s the purpose right?” Is just stunning. She’s a one episode side character and she ends up being the most important person on the show besides Nathan himself.
Even though they both knew segment was transactional, somehow this feels like the most sincere part of the entire series

This show was genius, it wasnt really about Nathan trying to help small businesses it was about Nathan trying to make new friends and finding love LOL.

What a weird moment when Maci and him say they like each other and they're both lying or at least saying what they have to, but for different reasons. And they both know it.
I love Nathan constantly asking things like “Do you want to hold *my* hand” and “Do you want to turn the cameras off?” like the character of Nathan is begging her to make this real, not for a TV show. Then she says the purpose is him filming something and he gives that very brief and cold look at the camera, and it feels intentionally out of character.
Why does Nathan "have" to say he likes her?

25:29 I think it's one of the more beautiful moments in Nathan for You. The juxtaposition of Maci using Nathan for money and Nathan using Laci for his show come to light in a really interesting unscripted conversation. It's comedy at its most artful if you ask me.

That part with macy was beautifully done, i was like watching a hopeless romantic indie film.
That final episode was a bit insane. I remember my jaw dropping for pretty much the whole episode. Nathan really pushed the show to its limits here hahahah

The whole Macy segment is insane. Like it’s so different from other parts of the show that I genuinely can’t tell if it’s just a bit or real. It was so awkward but also at the same time I was just rooting for him. But the problem is I don’t know how genuine everything was

He told Me it was You who made it awkward. And he knew you would come here and make a big deal, so he admitted that yes, , in that way, he was reserved- because being famous, you learn to put up your defenses because people always want to speculate and gossip and he could tell that that’s who you were and I guess he was right all along. But he doesn’t blame you, he knows normal people are flawed and different than “ big shot , globe trotting Hollywood stars” ( that’s how he kept describing himself) it turns out that he wasn’t on the basketball team, “t he Globetrotters” it means he travels around the world because he’s part of the elite jet set. Who knew? Lol!

I was only able to watch the "again" segment once, it's energy is too powerfull
To this day, I don't know what was really going on with the Macy story. They both play characters as their profession individually, then when they are together they try to play along with each other, while being aware that the other person knows they are acting, but they won't drop the act until the other one drops their act first? Or it's ultimately scripted and all those layers are misdirection?
i think it just shows how they're both stuck in this situation. not saying either of them "really" liked one another, just the fact that they both can't fully read each other's sincerity

It's fascinating. Mind you, Nathan for you is really hilarious but this scene also makes it clear there's more than skits in here. That last part with her questioning what was the point of the cameras and then getting shown all the cameras pointing at them with a drone shot after a long silence was just *cheff kiss*
Yes! Everything with Macy is fascinating for this reason. In a way, I think that this is the "truest" interaction that Nathan has on the entire show, in that both participants are fully in on the deception and the artifice, and that both participants are practiced in this kind of deception. What makes it even more interesting is that, I believe, Macy is the only one that ever mentions other episodes that Nathan has done, at least that we saw in the final cut. So she breaks through the 4th wall more than anyone else.
Oh, also, this exchange:
Macy: "You lied to every last one of them."
Nathan: "I mean, it's business."
Macy: "You're, like, mean funny."
Nathan (nodding pointedly): "It's business, right?"
Macy (looking away): "You're right...yeah."
When Maci is first watching his footage on the laptop, his agony looks very real. It's so hard watching your own old work, and to do it in front of a genuinely pretty girl... even if it is part of a scripted show, he'd still want her to genuinely like his stuff.
I disagree. I think it’s all part of the act. A man this successful does not desire validation from others.

I hope Nathan and Macy still have this business arrangement, they seemed to really like each other and have chemistry. I know he is acting and she is an escort so probably also acting but I still feel like they had a genuine connection.

yes, that's the point of acting. but to make it genuine, you have to tap into something real in yourself. i can tell nathan is a serious actor after watching these bits. before i used to think he was just a comedian.

Honestly it seems like the easiest job in the world to just giggle a lot and hang on a guy’s every word. In fact this may sound crazy to you, but I have to be polite and nice to people I don’t really like talking to and pretend they’re interesting when they’re not at least once a week, for $0 an hour.
The ending to the series was incredibly perfect because it was meticulously crafted. The drone shot of the cameras at the end was the payoff.
