      It was 20 seconds slower a lap than the leaders, no it wasn't great. It was more of an experiment than anything else, though, so I don't think anyone expected it to be a world beater.

    these past few years, nissan has been doing some really cool stuff with the delta wing and such. I wish other manufactures would try to innovate like nissan is doing. It makes everything much more interesting.

    • @braveraxeblade
      @braveraxeblade 9 лет назад +8

      They blatantly copied the Panoz deltawing. They only started working on their own after seeing that the DeltaWing actually had potential.

    • @bob505470
      @bob505470 9 лет назад +14

      braveraxeblade the delta wing was neither Nissan's or panoz concept. If you're referring to the lawsuit, it simply a desperate final attempt from panoz to keep the company from going under.

    • @PistonAvatarGuy
      @PistonAvatarGuy 9 лет назад +4

      braveraxeblade Panoz was involved in racing the Nissan DeltaWing, it wasn't a separate car.

      I was wrong about them being seperate cars, but Panoz may be going under, but that doesn't mean Dr. Panoz is anywhere near running out of money. He still has quite a few other businesses that are doing just fine.

      The results were lacking but it did alright on the track, just not good enough, and with the margins in racing..
      One race is all they got with the car, but still, innovation is usually an itterative process, and they just didn`t get the needed time, and the hybrid system wasn`t implemented by the time the arce was on.
      A bit more time for evolution and testing, and it might have been very different.
      At least maybe it would be 20 seconds off par hehe..

    Two years later......it didnt work! Nissan pulled the plug, never giving them time to develop. They never did get the flywheel hybrid system to work right (if all), so they were only running FWD with no energy harvesting/storage. Because of this, massive understeer off of courners, unable to power down with FWD with out massive wheel slip. Makes one wonder if it would have worked had they had time to develop and make the hybrid/energy harvesting work, and send power to rear wheels under acceleration.

      Karlen Bell One of those reasons being it is a race car which is not street-legal, another reason being that this car is going to be raced in less than two weeks time and if Jay crashes it then the car will lose some very important test sessions. A third reason being that I don't think he is even qualified enough to drive this car - a racing driver needs to have an FIA-certified International A racing license (or greater) to get behind the wheel.

    This is from WIkipedia so you don't have to google why everyone makes fun of this in the comments: "The car made its racing debut at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. Three cars were entered for the race by Nissan Motorsports, numbered 21, 22 and 23. The cars qualified in the last three places of the LMP1 class with times over 20 seconds slower than the pole position time set by the No. 18 Porsche 919 Hybrid. The No. 21 car was even out-qualified by the fastest LMP2 car. After the three cars failed to achieve a time within 110 percent of the pole position time, they were demoted to the back of the prototype grid. The No. 21 car retired from the race after 115 laps with a suspension failure, while the No. 23 car retired on lap 234 with gearbox issues. The No. 22 car finished the race, but was not classified as it failed to complete 70 percent of the race winning car's race distance. The car was never raced again."

    • @ryanlopez2835

      truantray the delta wing wasn't able to race due to its extreme design, the car wasnt able to be classified as anything other then a car. Thats all people could call it, a fast car. It couldnt race even if the designer wanted to race. In the end, I believe it did race once, sadly a 911 cup car clipped its tail and sent the delta wing flipping through the air. lastly Nissan pulled out of the delta wing project( my guess would be because the car couldnt really race.) and due to the fact Nissan was the main sponsor also had all of the cars secrets so when Nissan pulled out they took all the knowledge gained from the project and basically copied it but added a roof. Um i wish i had sources maybe ill do a little more search and ill add a couple of sources. oh well, that was just my understanding of the delta wing.

    Absolute disaster at le mans yesterday, the gtr proved to be rubbish with one catching fire and another finishing 40th after completing just 242 laps.
    Because the front tyres did most of the work - braking, steering and accelerating - excessive tyre wear also became a problem for the Nissan while most other outright contenders made their tyres last for three of four driving stints between changes.
    The front-drive design was so flawed (all the other cars on the grid are all-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive) all three Nissan cars were forced to start last among the outright contenders because they failed to complete a qualifying lap within 110 per cent of the fastest car, an eligibility and safety requirement
    Complete and utter embarrassment to the gtr brand.

      It is too bad that the companies give up this quickly. Nissan should have invested more in research and development before closing the project. BTW, I remember reading that Mercedes ran away from racing for decades after a huge catastrophe in the 1950s and then again in the early 2000s after their successor model to their famous super winner GLK GTR car has failed in few races.

    How does it handle torque steer?

    • @tjay84
      @tjay84 9 лет назад +10

      WiseGuy02 Shouldn't be an issue.. Torque steer occurs on FWD cars with transversely mounted engines where the gearbox is placed on the side of the engine, making one driveshaft longer than the other.. This has a longitudinal mounted engine with the gearbox placed in front, making both driveshafts the same length...

    • @patw52pb1
      @patw52pb1 9 лет назад +2

      WiseGuy02 The in-car video on the track does not show/indicate any torque steer. If engineered and executed properly there is no torque steer.
      Usually torque steer is the product of unequal length drive axles and poor steering geometry.

    • @RalphShackell
      @RalphShackell 9 лет назад +5

      WiseGuy02 The driveshafts are equal length, so there is no torque steer effect.

    • @MrNicholg
      @MrNicholg 9 лет назад

      WiseGuy02 longitudinal layout=same length half shafts, all road-going fwd cars have engine and transmission setting transverse in the car.

    • @dragkid185
      @dragkid185 9 лет назад +2

      MrNicholg You can still get equal length drive shafts with a transverse engine. You can either have a crazy transmission setup or what's way more common is you have a fixed haft shaft and then you have your normal cv axle. There's also suspension tuning and having different size axles(Which my car has) that helps eliminate torque steer.

    The project was scrapped because Nissan's engineers grossly over-estimated their ERS system, as a result, the car produced SEVERAL HUNDRED HORSEPOWER LESS than it should have! At the same time, they ran into a problem with their Axle suppliers for this car. And at that point, it was just Too late...Time is money, can't take it back to the drawing board that easily. It could have been easily tweaked to correct this error too....but like I said, awesome car! I hope they get the funds again to re-tweak it like it was SUPPOSED to be, because on paper it was FAST!

    Starting from 30, 31 and 32 in Le Mans tomorrow because the Nissans are way to slow in terms auf the 110% rule to the Polesetters, the mindblowing Porsche 919.
    This car looks very awful to drive. Everbody can see that by the onboard cameras and the Hybrid doesn't work.
    Only LMP2 Speed on the Timing Screen. Pfff. Humliated by the Germans and Toyota. And by the private LMP1 of Rebellion, too.
    I''m speechless about this Desaster. Porsche was fighting for the win last year in their return year. Compare to that Nissans Debut this year is a nightmare.

      He's on the driver's list. If NISMO had decided to pull him from the project he would've had his notice MUCH earlier. Furthermore, he was at the test day yesterday. They more than likely won't be anywhere near the pace of the Porsches, Audis and Toyotas, but I think they'll be able to compete with Rebellion and put down similar times as them in two weeks. The 2016 race will be amazing.... Toyota will have a new car and the Nissan will be properly sorted by next year.
