Rentals in the area are pretty hard at the moment alot of people want to move to the coast from brisbane and the southern states. it should be cooling off around the time you guys get here but it wont be cold it will still be around 22c to 25c most of the time. Plenty of roofing work up here most homes are metal roof but that depends on your experience and we have a real shortage of tile roofers i do facia and gutter myself so i work for a few of the bigger roofing companies subcontract. I beg any of you imminently movung here to remember a few things:
Firstly it won't always be a fairytale. It is not Utopia. Too many Poms expect too much and forget they are a very, very long way from family when things don't go right.
Secondly, once here, consider yourself Australian from Day 1, no longer English. STOP comparing from the moment you get off the plane. It does you no good at all, leads to a unrealistic rose tinted view of where you left. Acting like you are in a foreign country will mean you will not settle into life here. Once here, it is YOUR country. Embrace it wholesale, the good, the bad and the indifferent. And besudes, seriously Aussues HATE whingeing Poms.
Thirdly, do not go back to the UK for at least 5 years. You will never settle here if you constantly ping pong. It is actually harder on relos if you do. Get them to come to you. Show off a little. Brag a lot.
These are based on my experiences and on having watching dozens of others leave without settling. I've been a very proud Australian for 33 years, having come from the UK in my mid 20s originally. It is a fantastic place to have a career, a life and to raise children. But, as I said, it is not paradise so don't come thinking it is, you will be very very disappointed.
    Safe travels, best wishes. Enjoy!

The internet will really help with maintaining connections to family. You can talk face-to-face as often as you need and your children can maintain connections to grandparents. I emigrated over 40 years ago.
You will feel homesick, especially at Christmas (or I do then). Try not to rush back. Get settled then go back for a holiday if you feel very homesick, you might find that helps remind you why you moved.
      Good luck.

Rentals wouldn't be easy, what's your plan B, don't underestimate missing family back in UK, it's the number 1 reason Brits return back to the UK its a long way away plus life in Aus is not the UK with sun, its a different country with a different culture and people which is not to everyone's taste. Aussies are friendly but making friends in Aus is not the same as making friends in the UK, everybody's your mate in Aus but very few are close friends unlike the UK who tend to form deeper friendships, plus your family wont be queuing up to come and see you its a big and expensive journey to make. Love to know where on the Sunshine Coast your moving to, hopefully not Noosa, Maroochydore is ok, Caloundra not so nice, Buderim nice but very quiet. Let me know

Remember that where your moving too is sub-tropical, and tho the official governments adds tell you the weather it is really good one day and perfect the next, we have had a lot of rain in that area of late, and what i can gather it is set to continue that way if you listen to the talking heads on the weather forecasts.

With the amount of illegal "immigration" into Britain a.t.m., and polliticians that do nothing about it, you are certainly better off in Australia, Britain is finished. Rental on the Sunshine Coast is difficult a.t.m. and is in great demand. Wish you very good luck, don't forget it's very hot this time of year in Aus.

Just remember that Australia is not some antipodean outpost. Soccer (yes, that's what it's called out here) is a minor sport, tended to be played by Europeans. The matches are full of crowd violence with spectators letting off flares. The British are considered colonising invaders. We don't have any English pubs over here. Need to leave your British superiority attitude in Britain. A recent immigrant complained to me that his daughter was developing an "accent", to which I replied - "You're the one with the accent, mate."
