In Summer very hot days absorb a lot of moisture. At sundown the cooling air allows droplets to form. Either there will be a storm that evening or a couple of hot days will be followed by torrential rain.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) app shows where rain is coming from.
Use cloth car seats to provide buffer between seat and skin.
Used to be able to buy steering wheel cover.
Need to reconsider going out in heat. Adjust to conditions you can’t change.
Also can use umbrella as parasol.

just an interesting observation, i know a few brits who came out here and after a few years moved back. thinking that they are going back to the old
way of life. but unfortunately everything changes . in fact the world they left is not now the world you are coming back to. firstly the old world has
changed and second you have changed.not only you have changed, but australia changes you, the climate, the distances , the different seasons the extremes of the climate all make an impression. it usually take 3 years to settle. there are a thousand differences some you like, some you dont. make it a success for the kids mainly.
you can always visit the old country and the relos can always visit you.

Hi Kim still enjoying your videos both myself and my wife had a bit of a giggle when you were talking about letting loved ones know you are moving to the other side of the world .She is from the US when i was over there i got to meet her parents for the first time she introduced me and then told them we are getting married they took that surprisingly well , so about 20 minutes later she informed them that she would be moving to Australia they took that as well as could be expected though her mum kinda looked like a fish out of water with her mouth opening and closing lol . After all that they were very supportive and have wished us all the best . I still compare/relate your story to my parents when they came out here though mum had her twin sister and parents with them they were very isolated .They lived in an area that had Koala's climbing over the roof wallabies hopping through the paddocks and snakes sunning themselves on the back step also bush fires jumping our property to burn the houses behind us . To get news from home took ages by mail or they would find copies of the local Aberdeen newspaper months old to catch up with .
Wow that's a lot for a parent to take in 😅 however thankfully all positive news and well done you guys for taking the leap! It's VERY different nowadays and technology has made it so much easier to connect with loved ones. Something I'm very grateful for! ❤
Tap water is only cold in winter time. Summer time it can be hot to warm at 1st till that warm water has moved through the pipes. The ground is warmer and the pipes running up the wall especially outter walls of thebuilding will absorb the suns heat.
Totally understand this. All our pipes in the UK are underground so they don't freeze! Haha 😂
as far as making friends . it is not easy . join clubs, book clubs walking clubs exercise groups voluntering , etc. also the kids play groups will make it easier. kids going to chool will also make greater connections. good luck. it will get easier.

I would say in the UK and I live in London it is very difficult to find a toilet
Aussie weather can be extreme at times. You just have to plan ahead when you know there's a heatwave coming. Stay home if possible with the aircon on, drink plenty of fluids and use a damp face cloth to cool your forehead. Put towels along car seats. As for loneliness, Aussie adults experience it too, so don't be too hard on yourself. If your visa doesn't allow you to do paid work, maybe you could find somewhere to volunteer and meet ppl that way?
Bali is also a good spot for Aussies and its cheap.
I feel you. The loneliness is definitely a thing for me too since we moved over. Its only been 3 weeks for is though. But I hope it will change as time goes on. ☺️

If you're looking for a resort feel, you should check out Hamilton Island - although maybe a bit pricey - we went nine years ago and it was amazing. The whole island feels like a resort! ❤ I'm coming over next month if you want me to bring you prawn cocktail crisps 💞

I honestly didn't know this, but also not complaining, just explaining what I didn't expect. Everyone talks about how hot it is all year round, funnily enough never mention rain! 😂
Hi Kim, great update! In hindsight do you wish you had rented out your home instead of selling. I totally understand most things you say having done the journey myself. People tend to think the work life balance is better in Australia but that isn’t the case for all! Good luck with the job search 😊
Hello, we definitely explored this option but it appeared to difficult to do from Australia with tax/paperwork etc so we decided to sell. The market was also in our favour which was another good reason. X
I'm interested to know more about reasons for leaving Scotland. I really want to go back after many years here but I'm worried the place I want to move back to is no longer the place I used to call home. I have an 8 and 6 year old and that's my main worry for moving back. Lonliness has been a big issue for me so I understand how u feel. I have a few amazing friends in brisbane who are actually all from the UK but between work and kids it's still hard to catch up with people. This is when you miss family, so after many years of trying to make it work, I just want to go home. I know you chanel focuses on life in Australia but it would be good to hear your perspective on what Scotland is like now for raising kids! Loving the videos, they are very comforting to watch 😊
Ah hello fellow Scot! 🏴 I know it was in a pretty bad way when we left. For me it was the lack of opportunities for the kids, for example lack of sports (especially outdoor) parks were terrible and never maintained. Healthcare was on its knees. Weather was just miserable and cost of living was on the rise (again) but I could do a comparison video if this is something uou would be interested in. How long have you been here? X
Should also say, family/support is everything and sometimes that's all that matters. I think about my kids growing up and grandparents missing school shows/birthdays/milestones/Christmases and honestly I really don't know..... x
@@kimberleylucas yes that doesn't sound like a great place to be anymore haha. I've been here for 12 years now and feel like it's changed so much in Scotland in that time but I still miss it. We used to go back every year to visit but flights are so expensive now that's not really an option! I know I've got it good here but it's never really felt like home. And I agree, Edinburgh is the best city in the world! I went to uni there and it was so fun. Hope you are finding your feet and meeting some people, terrigal looks beautiful 😊
I enjoyed watching this as reminded me of things i had forgotten. You can shop at Myers which has a few branded items otherwise you will need to order online. Supre was a favourite shop of mine 8 years ago but my not sure what they sell now. Things will get easier once your partner has PR in regards to fees etc. Before covid construction would finish work around 4pm but i was based in WA and this was 8 years ago. Any weekend work was paid overtime and any hours over a certain amount. Thailand is a good place to visit in addition to Bali. Flies are annoying! The aircon can paralyse them!
Thank you for this. I think Covid definitely has a lot to answer for! He doesn't get any over time for weekend work, just a day back which absolutely blows my mind! Only another year for PR so we are holding out for that. Oh I love Thailand, didn't think about here - that's a great idea!! Thank you 😊
The work life balance has really shocked me, we’re in Yorkshire and I’d argue there is no work life balance in this country it’s crippling
I think it can be different depending on what industry you are in, covid has changed a lot over here. My husband was definitely home more in the UK than here.
haha no matter how bad the weather is here its still gotta be better than UK lol , i live in Darwin and never had a dryer ever lol , when it rains here it rains for a week or so , i can still dry a doona under a fan here in about an hour lol , also i spent 20 years in the navy , sometimes i would be away from home 3 months at a time , my wife had to deal with two kids under two alot of the time then got worse as time went on lol ,she dealt with it , kids are fine , as is life lol
Haha the weather will ALWAYS be better than the UK. The reason our water is cold is because our pipes are underground to stop them FREEZING 😅 says it all! It's not easy being on your own with 2 kids, well done both of you for making it through 😂
Hey, you can buy a Clothes Horse so you can dy your clithes inside your house.
We actually have one, I just feel sometimes the clothes smell funny when they've not been outside. It always passes after a few days then I can get 3 loads out 😂
Another great vlog. My brother is really struggling in Sydney. His relocation package turned out to be an absolute farce. They never helped him to find anywhere to live, I had to get him in an Airbnb, where he currently resides. They haven't sorted his tax out, they said they had loads of work on, he's twiddling his thumbs and can't earn the money they told him he'd be earning...the list goes on and on. So I guess my question would be, did Ewan's relocation package turn out to be everything he expected?
I'm really sorry to hear this. No support is NOT good and unfortunately I think a lot of companies think they have 'one up' on you because they have given you a sponsorship however they don't realise that they also need YOUR skill to do the work. It's a hard ground to stand because they could easily say no thank you and you have 60 days to leave the country. I'll ask Euan for his advice for sure and get back to you. Hope he's OK 😊
@@kimberleylucas thank you, he is in his own too. No family around him. They are taking the money for his sponsorship out of his wages, which he has been advised by a solicitor, is illegal. He feels really let down by the company...and it is a very well known, worldwide company. It's just been a really bad experience, and the homesickness is absolutely killing him too, but he's sticking it out for now. X
@teamclarke6999 so this is absolutely illegal and I'm so sorry he is experiencing this. It's awful how companies can get away with it. He may be better applying for a WH visa, leaving his current employer and reaching out to other companies to obtain new employment. I'm pretty sure because he is already out here that companies will jump at the opportunity of having him & his skill, and should offer him a new sponsorship too. It's really awful!
@@kimberleylucas thank you for your advice. I think for a global company to treat someone like this is really terrible. It's just been one big mess really. He went into the accounts office to enquire about his wages being so low, and they told him they hadn't sorted his tax out yet (hes beeb there three months!) Then they asked him if he had rights to be in the country????!!! He said "what are you talking about, you got me the visa!!! How do you think I got past immigration??" Absolute shambles. X

flies are a bother but , it has been a thousand times worse. you should experience a fly plague. then you can complain about flies . you walk
in the house with a hundred flies on your back , walk outside they get in your ears ,nose on your lips and under your collar. while im at it, a heat wave is a joy, you cant walk barefoot on the sand at the beach in fact on really hot days not many go to the beach because the sunburn risk is through the roof. we had to walk home from school on the grass because the road was so hot our shoes would stick to the moist bitumin. then there are the magpies that usually dive bomb you in spring .we walked home from school with our bags on our heads, you run and dodge , wave your arms and when its over you are laughing with your mates about who got nipped and who didnt. we brave it , just like we brave the surf and get dumped ,then you learn how to ride the waves and have massive fun. just like your girls will learn to do. thats not all, we played in the bushland behind our house ,we learnt how to climb trees, stay on tracks avoid snakes and hone our bush craft skills ,never got lost, knew compass bearings and always found our way home , it made us strong, just as it would your girls.

I really like u but you really live in a bubble. The construction industry has changed due to COVID and the fact their are not enough skilled tradies etc. you can be a stay at home mum due to his wages & this is a real privilege these days. I find u a bit spoilt and not very educated about NSW v other states in regards to working hours, weather and other things. I hope you have a happy life here but think you definitely need to open your eyes about whats going on in the UK at the moment for most working people.
Thank you for your comment. I'm not educated on other states because I don't live in them hence why I always state my opinion is based on my experience living in Sydney. I'm sorry you feel I don't educate others on other states, happy to do this if you need some information? In regards to your comment about working hours, I've explained that our concern has been around Euan working 1 full day extra per week for free. Neither of us agreed to this 😅 I think it's great for others to know what to expect when moving out here and judging by my feedback others agree. I'm currently looking for work to fund our children's daycare fees, I would like to work. I'm not going to make any comment on you calling me 'spoilt' as you are the one doing this publicly for everyone to see, and you are entitled to your own opinion on that. Kim, what work do you think you might like to do? Read Euan's work contract again and see if you guys are able to renegotiate it due to your family's particular circumstances. If you have a hot chicken from the local supermarket , strip/ shred it as soon as you get home, into a big pan 🥘 or slow cooker put the carcass, water, salt and pepper, mixed herbs, carrots, potatoes, etc and let it cook away and check it regularly throughout the day, when the kids are playing, go take the bones out, wrap in plastic bag, if not bin night and put in freezer, on bin night chuck them in the garbage. Use a stick mixer and blitz the soup 🍲 until smooth, add noodles and green veggies, yummy. When you organise your daughter's lunch for school 🎒, make one for your son and put it into his own lunch bag in the fridge where he can reach it , he can eat anything out of there at anytime. We don't class ourselves as materialistic or label snobs lol. Changing your style is going to be a process, if you like more natural fibres try W.Lane, Tree of Life, Target, Country Road. Sussan, Suzanne Grae, Portman's, Sportsgirl.
@@thereseelizabethries1083 Thank you for this very helpful comment. That sounds just like my grandmas soup! (which was always my favourite!!) I'll definitely give this a try, also GREAT tip for the freezer until bin night! I'm always prepared with lunches, and always make one for my little boy - its just everything else im not great with. I'm still adjusting to having no support, its definitely not easy and at times can be very stressful. Thank you for the retail shops - i've tried target and portmans, but will be sure to try the rest :)
