A note about the circle pictured at 3:00. I once spoke with the artist who created the original assault rifle concept at Bungie. That circle on the rifle is in fact the rifle's safety mechanism. It's supposed to represent a single solid circular bar that extents across the width of the rifle. When the rifle is in safety mode, that bar sticks out from the left side surface of the rifle's frame while being flush with the right side surface of the rifle's frame. When the rifle is in firing mode, the bar is flush on the left side and sticks out on the right side. If you watch carefully the first time your character in the games readies a new assault rifle, you'll notice that they flick the safety off with their thumb as they raise it to their shoulder. So bottom line, someone wanting to add a little extra verisimilitude to their rifle might want to cut out a thin circular piece of foam and glue it over that circle on one side of the rifle.

Holy crap the things you can do with just some Eva foam, looks so good even tho it's a lower standard than you could actually achieve, thanks so much for this tutorial for us beginners!
This thing looked cool in the video, and even cooler in person. Unfortunately, I was forced to use scissors, a pocket knife, and a cardboard box cutter to cut the foam (which didn't work out well at all), but I figured out how to use them to get the best look my possibilities. I hope to get a craft knife soon, though.
Great now I can finish this for my ODST cosplay. the con is this Saturday so tomorrow is work work work all day to get this done! Thank you so much Andrew!

can you do a vid or just comment (whichever's easier) about the specific pros and cons of eva foam vs the styrofoam when it comes to weapons? from your old vids it looks like all of the weapons you made were done using styrofoam exclusively, which do you recommend?
How many tiles of foam do you think you use to make this, the SMG and the ODST pistol?? I'm trying to plan out financially so that I can build them, I would really appreciate a response boss thanks!
A working paintball fun out of of foam? Good luck lol. Even if you had all the inner mechanics in metals and plastic and were just making the shell, foam isn't nearly strong enough to handle use.

I made it, and it took me 1.5 or 2 pieces of 24"x24" with .5" thick.
Sgt S1ithers thanks man but I already mad it too. And I used about 2.5 sheets. Maybe I'm not very good at conserving foam

glad you're doing EVA foam because the Styrofoam doesn't look fun to work with while the EVA looks easier

finally finished, after about 5.5 hours due to not having much glue.

I made a cardboard assault rifle using this same video, you don’t always have to use foam to make cool stuff

Instead of clay you can use Kwik Seal in a tube.

Im Pretty sure one pack of 4 sheets should be able to get the Smg and pistol covered =D if your careful =)

I use PVA glue =) Plastidip is also fine and wont coverup the details
