- In our continuing series "On the Road," Steve Hartman meets Joe Brown, a Florida barber who is still cutting hair at the age of 98. Brown, who says he has no plans to retire, still has the magic touch that keeps customers coming back.
I use to go to a barber for around 15 years. He was the only person I trusted with my hair. When he passed away he was 92. His hand would shake a little but he never cut anyone while doing straight razor shaves or mess up a haircut.
Sometimes I hate watching these amazing stories, especially of the elderly, because they are usually posted years ago by the time I find them and I always want to know how they're doing. R.I.P, Mr. Joe. Thank you for your dutiful service to your community.
I am a hairstylist and used to work at a salon with a booth-renter in her 80s (I think, nobody knew for sure) from Italy who came over after WW2 with her now deceased husband. She still works 3 days a week. With clients for over 30 years, on average!
Just two years ago , our town's last "real" barber ( with the old kind of shop and things) retired. He had cut 5 generations of my family's hair. We miss you , Mr. Reeder !
What an elderly gentleman. To bad they're not around anymore. That's the way God intended men (and women) to be. Kind, considerate, compassionate. May God bless him.
The birds just started chattering outside my kitchen window while this played... now that, is amazing.
Thank you, for helping to keep my heart open!
What a cute man! "I'm not going that route" had me laughing!
He seems to have a real playful sense of humor. This line and his referring to the Beatles as long haired ducks had me rolling. Also, did anyone else notice the sign in the window that read 'Sorry We're Open"?
look at how smoothly he operates at 98 here in 2019 hopefully Joe is still cutting strong.

A Different Generation. Pastor Cliffe Knechtle, "Give Me An Answer", "One thing I've found out is, when I meet homeless men, I get them a job very soon. I find if a man does not have a job, he deteriorates quickly."
He reminds me so much of my papa 🥺
Hailey Horn he’s my great grandpa he passed away at 104 recently so I came here
On of our local barber's is 95.

Yes. He actually retired this year, his wife passed away last year so he finally hung up the clippers.
William Todd god dammit
He is a treasure!
I want to love my life to the max like that Barber😍😍😍
We have a Joe the barber here in Hartford Connecticut. He has been cutting hair for the homeless in Bushnell Park, standing until he finished the last head there, for 25 years. My one and only cut by Joe was six weeks ago. Joe had replacement surgery about a month ago. Knee I think. I hear he’s doing well. Joe is late 80s, or his nineties. I hope with the surgery he no longer stands for us. We now stand for you Joe 👏 👏 👏. Pamela M. 8/11/2019

He might be old enough to have direct knowledge (or at least heard) of the times when Barbers actually performed dentistry duties. They were once called Barber-Surgeons. This is the reason the Barber pole has red-white-blue, with red being for blood...not sure about the blue and white.
Pharmacists were actually called Chemists, in the past. They made their own drugs. Wonder if drugs would be cheaper if it was still this way? I have often thought that modern day Pharmacists don't get their just-desserts, when it comes to respect as medical professionals. Heck, most of society don't even realize they are doctors too. Maybe this oversight comes from the modern day image of a Pharmacists, just a man/woman behind a counter counting pills, and collecting money. Maybe if they did continue to make the drugs, people would realize...hey, this Pharmacists is a doctor of pharmacology/toxicology, and actually knows more about the medicine I take than the medical doctor I just saw at a clinic.
The Tinkerer
The Beatles=)
I wished I could find a barber like him. Most now just wants money with no pride in their work.
Ya I
That white boy was cute
