This is the third Mrs Quilty unboxing I've seen, and I appreciate all y'all taking one for the team here. I'm new to quilting (although I do have sewing experience), and I would have been so disappointed to receive such a scanty box, and the fabric prints aren't impressive IMHO. It sounded like you were struggling to say something nice about this one. On the plus side, I absolutely LOVE your flower headband. The bird & ladybug snuggled between the blooms are simply darling!
As a beginning sewist, I subscribed to Mrs. Quilty, hopeful and happy to receive my first box. I have spent the entire day frustrated and will be cancelling this subscription as soon as I do ish this post to you. I was stymied first by the directions. The only measurements included were the sizes of each block and the finished topper. The templates were printed back -to-back, so I had to make copies of each page. Since there were no measurements on the templates, I needed to calculate the sizes of each piece based on the overall measurement of the piece. I spent an e tire day trying to calculate the size of the I terror rectangle I order to accurately cut 3 triangles to fit the template. I am still flummoxed. I cannot figure out how to cut out the triangles to the size of the templates. I need more guidance than the magazine directions provide. thank you for your honest assessment of the quality of the fabric. I will search for a better subscription box. Would love any suggestions.
Hi Kimberly! Sorry that was your experience, though I'm not surprised. Right now my channel is doing a feature called "Battle of the Boxes" where I open boxes from several companies and you, the viewer, is encouraged to vote and give your honest opinion. It's a great way to see what other companies offer and at what price. Also, I do frequent giveaways of the boxes I don't want to keep and you can enter to win one of those. There are better boxes out there, I promise. For starters you might want to look into Fat Quarter Shops Sew Sampler box. It's a good box and a fair price point.
Thank you! You just saved me $29.95 per month. I always wonder about these kits, I'm glad you did a video. I'll just find someone on youtube who can help with a beginner quilter! Thanks again!
I got Mrs Quilty in January and I feel the same as you, waiting for tomorrow as my next box should arrive. I was a bit disappointed. I need another subscription but the costs are right up there.
I got my second box today, what are the tie tacks for? I am going to be cancelling my subscription, not what I was hoping for at all. I can get the same quality from a big box store or wait for Joann Fabrics sales which are way better than this. I will use the material because I waste not want not. Thank you and I look forward to your feeling about the February delivery.
Your a Doll! I love to see your quirkiness and fun disposition. Yes, we all want to ware those fun headbands. (How Fun) This particular box (Miss Quilty) would be good for a beginner sewer and I too am curious to see what the second box is about. Thanks and Be Well
Sometimes I hate the quality fabric they send. So really I would rather buy myself what I like. However, it it helpful to get what you need to make the project.
Good morning everyone! Looks like Wal-Mart fabric,I would use it for something that's not going to get a lot of use maybe a patchwork decorative pillow good practice blocks. I personally would not spent 30.00 a month, holly once again thank you 🤦❤ love the new headband❤❤❤
As a beginner, these boxes do nothing for me no help in the book or on their site. I have a 2nd box coming just to see it brings, I have no idea how to start, how far my stitches should be. Not happy and more likely going to keep after my new box gets here.
I like purple, but there is too much in this project. I feel the way you do and feel that the quality of the fabric is missing. That being said, it would be a good box for beginner quilt it’s so they can practice sewing while keeping the price down. Nothing worse than messing up a piece of fabric that cost over $12 a yard. Also, if I was making something that wasn’t going to need a lot of washing this fabric may be okay. I guess I’m a fabric snob too! Ouch!
Cute headband. Touching tribute to makers mother. Regarding the box. For people just starting to quilt, the cost does not seem like too much to invest. Even though the fabric isn’t high quality (which would make me feel less guilt if I messed it up). As a newbie I would probably appreciate that magazine to guide me step by step. I agree that skilled quilters would probably be disappointed with the fabric and likely be fine with a regular pattern. You are likely right that it could not compete with other subscriptions. Appreciate your honesty. This box has a place with inexperienced quilters.
Thanks for being Honest!! I saw an unboxing last month, quilter said it was good quality. However I can tell just by looking at it, years ago I bought fabric from JC Pennys it was paper thin, rough could see through it! Kinda same as this fabric. Plus for $30.00 ???? Really? That would only be 2 yards of 100% cotton!! Lol I also have 3 of those wrist bands for pins! Not using I would probably hit myself in the face with it! 😂😂😂
I feel bad for people who subscribe to this box thinking it's going to be something special. The people who produce that box ought to be kind of ashamed of themselves.
@@DandelionStitches oh I agree. Lady I know I think she gets free box and another lady I know they asked her to contract with them. I think most of us talked her out of it. She is just a Dear Lady and I don’t want her getting hurt. IMO if they would spend more on quality fabric and not sending a very costly box plus the book, maybe they would do better.
this is why I don't like subscription boxes...I am a fabric snob also and just like my meats and vegetables I want to choose my fabrics myself so that I know what I am paying for.
OH & in addition to China, I THINK there is a company that may be USA that prints for fabric designers - I don't like how it irons... The odor & how my iron "sticks" compared to other fabrics. (not spoonflower, I think they are short runs, the one I'm thinking of does bolts of yardage.)
Best HB ever! Love the bird and Lady bug❤ Sounds like a great box for beginners. Too bad the fabric isn't great quality...But, like you said, wash and dry the fabric and iron it with a stiffener, such as starch or what-have-you and I'm sure it will be a lot better and easier to work with. Good price for a beginner project🙆🏻♀️🥰 How is Mr. HOLLY?😉 Did he get diagnosed yet? Take care Beautiful❣
Mr. Holly got a good chuckle out of that. Appointment went okay. We still don't have a definitive diagnosis, but we sure know all the things he doesn't have! Nothing life threatening at this point. 😄😘
I’d love to see how much this fabric shrinks, bleeds and looks like after washing! Good idea nice colors and good amount of fabric but that fabric seems so cheap!
Having not felt it, nor seen how it holds up after washing, I'll not comment on that, but I appreciate the color and the variety in scale/style/value of prints. I know I am in the minority, but soooooooo much of the fabric in so many boxes is holiday specific and that is not my thing.
The fabric quality explains the cheaper price. Also, they are not even full fat quarters, which seems cheap as well. For a new quilter, it is a lower then most box price and might be ok for learning.
Sew Sampler is the same price and has beautiful fabrics plus much more included in the box. I've only gotten two so far but both times there were two Moda charm packs, plus other things. I'm sure you saw Holly's unboxing a few days ago. Just saying cost shouldn't be a determining factor.
I love the bird and lady bug in the headband. Reminds me of a beginner quilt kit I bought a few years ago on clearance to make a pet bed cover. It might be a good introduction, but there are so many better options.
Upon further reflection on this box, I'm labeling it the "Wish" version of a subscription quilting box. Up against other similarly priced boxes it fails, but maybe for someone on a limited budget who really want to learn to quilt it's a winner. Is there a place in the quilting world for a box like this?
Hi Holly. Although the fabric looks pretty, it looked pretty flimsy. It's a boring box with only fabric and a pin cushion. I enjoy receiving fabric, a pattern and some extra goodies.
Fabric definitely looked pretty, and for a table runner would be okay, but for something needing more long lasting qualities sounds like it's pretty thin. It will be interesting to see the next one! Thanks!
I saw this Mrs quilty box on fb and wanted to find out if it’s 1. legitimate and 2. Reviews. I got this video in my google search. I found your page and subscribed. I am a beginner quilter and need something like instructions and step by step to start out. I have made a couple of basic 9x9 square quilts, but now I’m ready to advance but need guidance on patterns and steps of placements and size of cuts. I find necessarily want a subscription but 1-2 boxes that aren’t overly priced. What would you recommend that might be better than Mrs quilty?
Hi Sandra! As far as subscription boxes go, for a beginner I always recommend Sew Sampler from Fat Quarter Shop. Price point is reasonable and the patterns are well written. My favorite box is Open Gate. The patterns are a bit more challenging, but you get at least two projects and the fabric is always lovely. Good luck on your quilting journey. If you are on Facebook, you might want to join the Dandelion Stitches Facebook group. All the members are eager to help a new quilter!
Oh that purple polka dot on the wrong side of the fabric is splotchy. That speaks BLEED to me. This would be perfect for someone just starting out. Agreed pre wash
So I’m a new quilter and I love my first box and don’t really care if nobody else does. The instructions are easy for me to follow and I could never put together all these gorgeous bright yummy pattern. A little disappointed that you said in the beginning that you already had a preconceived opinion so why even do the video to down someone’s business . Smh .
Hey lady so I wanted to come back here and formally apologize to you and admit I must eat a lot of crow right now. I learned a hot lesson that sewers usually know what they are. Talking about and I am truly humbled going forward. Mrs quilty ended up being horrible . Not clear no instructions I was nothing but frustrated and told them they are not for beginners liars and unsubscribed . I am thinking about going with fat quarters one but don’t know if they are truly for beginners . I hope you can forgive me jumping from ignorance and I would like to learn more from you and subscribe . Thank you hun
@@MrShadasey We all live and learn, and you coming back to apologize was a very nice thing to do. Personally, I like the Sewers Club Stash Builder box, partly because the fabric is of good quality and 99.9% of the time I love the print; and partly because it's so gosh-darn customizable. When you sign up, you can choose between one box a month, one every other month, or one every three months; fat quarters or half-yard pieces; and how many pieces you want (5, 10, or 15 for fat quarters; 3 or 7 for half-yards). I get 15 fat quarters every three months; it's $35.09CAD plus shipping per box, which works out to $43.42USD. Best of all, they take your personal likes & dislikes into account. They have checklists of "please send me" and "never send me" colors and pattern types, which you can not only select when you sign up, but you can go in later on and make changes to it. (I recently adjusted mine to "no greens" as I bought lots of that color over Christmas, and "yes batiks" since I've used up almost all of the ones in my stash). They also have a project box, which I don't subscribe to but always drool over when I watch unboxing videos. Check out some of Holly's videos & see what you think.
It seems geared for the absolute beginner quilter who doesn’t own any rulers or a rotary cutter. For someone doing their first project it’s probably great. Or a young teen who you don’t want using a rotary cutter. “Magazine” is a very generous way to describe what is basically a pamphlet of instructions. The fabric colors are pretty, but the designs are very basic.
NOOOOO why waste an additional $30 on low quality fabric that you won't use?! get something else! primitive gatherings quilt box? (they have a quilt one that is not a wool one!)
Looks like box is all about presentation - the box and magazine high quality - colors & patterns on fabric were nice but even via the screen could tell were of a lighter weight /weave compared to a Moda/Art Gallery fabric The name “Mrs Quilty” was a turnoff anyway - only married women quilt? 😂
NOT impressed enough to want to subscribe. I'm not a fan of the fabric prints. I wouldn't give them a thumbs down, I'd give them an 'eh'. Thanks for the background on your beautiful headpieces! As always, thank you for sharing with us! Have an amazing weekend!!
