My main question was not answered please, is vegetable oil, butter or cheese or extra fat from any source added in the cooking process before packaging? apart from the fat of the meat itself
Fun fact, the term corn actually predates the usage of what Americans refer to as corn. The term corn was used to refer to any grain. Corned beef refers to using corns of salt because the salt is the size of corn or grain. Early on, yellow corn was referred to as Indian Corn as it came from the Americas. A lot of other countries still use the term corn to mean grain so American corn is usually refereed to as maize which is why corn mazes exist as its a play on words.
I love the part when they were talking about why they were using that rectangular shape and its benefits it then proceeded to show the tube shaped tins.
I first ate this in school in the sandwich they gave us ifnt eat it for years then I found it again recently in tins and I can't get enough delicious 😋
Salt corns were no the size of Corn (Maize) kernals. They were (and are) the size of Wheat berries. In Europe the word corn refers to any grain. not just Maize.
To open a brick shaped can you can using a side opening can opener remove the top and bottom and it will fall out the wide end, to aid this proccess keep the can in the fridge for a day to firm up the contents
Honestly, I was afraid to watch this video in fear of what would be revealed since I eat the stuff occasionally, but, it wasn't too bad at all other than the high salt and fat content, which I already knew.
Corned beef actually takes name from a 16th century method of making gunpowder where the ingredients were mixed mixed up with a liquid usually urine became a block of materials bound together and was known as corned powder this was used by all armies and navies until the advent of smokeless powder in the latter 19th century. Hence the preserved tinned beef using a similar system became known as corned beef
I love canned corned beef. The best way to enjoy it is: Tear off the label from the can, and as much glue residue as you can. Rinse the can off under hot water. Be very careful when using the "key" to open the can, it's easy to do right, but also easy to mess it up. Save the top part of the tin to close off the can, if you are not using the whole thing. Fry it under light heat (low-medium on most stoves) to melt the fat, warm it up, and produce any crispness you may desire. Then it's ready for application onto... anything!
we filipinos always eat corned beef ..but ten persons per can is the divisions..along with rice..its much heathier than eating in sandwich..costs matter..
I've been stocking up on the corner beef 🍖 😁 For its shelf life 🧬 As I prepare for the upcoming apocalypse Lol along with other canned meet . Stock peeps food shortages will come and inflation will get worse in 2023 .
I can open "keyed" corned beef cans with a regular can opener. Had to. The strip broke while using the key. (I went the wrong way). I will use the key, but if it breaks, I'll use the electric can opener.
Great staple if you know what your doing with it in any family great video. Corned beef hash, corned beef and rice, corned beef this and that just keep it moderate when we eat it.
This channel must have an obsession/fetish for corned beef as this is like the 4th or 5th video I've seen them make about it! lol! Well at least I'm watching their vids! 😃
@@hn2405 Bru in South Africa our state run power utility is failing. Keeping meat in the freezer gets more dangerous by the day. This is the best option to have fresh meat for prolonged periods of time

@hn2405 so a bit like eating any processed meat product then like sausages, burgers, mince, pork pies etc. The all use the parts that are not good enough for steaks, chops, an joints. Frankly people are better off eating offal (liver, kidneys, heart etc.) as they tend not to be processed, are excellent sources of protein, iron and B vitimins, and are relatively dirt cheap.
I cant imagine this being a household staple. Eat fresh food and save your heart from needless diseases. Why is it so impoetant to make it last as long as possible when it is readily availble. I could vom right now.

Funny thing is the people prepared to pay more for "fresh" corned beef in large slices in the chiller cabinet or from the deli. Truth is, it's just the same stuff, packed in bigger cans then sliced!
I've eated Corned Beef for decades. The other day, I found a small dark coloured ball in my Corned Beef. I've NEVER seen one before. Does anybody know what it was? A peppercorn perhaps?
I remember when corn beef was made with real corn beef. Today is like meat that was five hours in a food processor and packed in fat to make it solid.😢
This video is not a wholly original production. The presentation pieces together (mashes?) segments lifted, or stolen, from other videos, including most obviously the [non-corned] beef canning process from the well-known How's It's Made channel series. These piecemeal, click-chasing videos are the sort of thing that RUclips should monitor more closely.
Sodium nitrate circulates back to the mouth, and there converted to sodium oxide. Then back to the stomach and digested. Lowers blood pressure, but need to be a carnivore for that to work as depends on gut/ mouth bacteria. Not medical advise 😅
this video editing style of monologue, then a random movie with dialog that somewhat relates to the video is boring and predicable. it was interesting the first time but not the 1000th time.

Yes, it does

I like it more now, only 4 ingredients and a few production steps, much better than ultra processed foods

You should still be concerned since it has sodium nitrate, which is a very bad compound for your body
Maybe it's ok to eat sometime but not all the time

All the huge cuts of prime steak in the video have never been near a can of corned beef, they use mechanically recovered carcass bits.

Corned beef is submerged raw in brine for two to three days, then boiled, then sliced, then canned. Often with added fat. Not salt

How can corned beef have too much fat when the production line trims it away so the beef can cook and preserve??
