To clarify what I meant for under exposing , I would only underexpose to preserve my highlights, typically works best for outdoor lighting due to the sun being a extremely bright light source, if you have even lighting, you wouldn’t need to underexpose.
What ev level would you under expose when you use your a6000 or other Sony Corp camera's? Love your video.... always full of knowledge and inspiration. Keep it up 🤘 cheers
Captain Henbu - Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise and experience. I too have long been an advocate of 2 under, sometimes more (they're almost free, shooting a few extra never hurts). I once took a shot of some dense trees and forest in which I was immersed. This was in the north Georgia mountains, and some of the leaves, mountain laurel I think, were somewhat glossy and reflective. It was the end of the day, and the sun had set over the mountains, and the prevailing light came entirely from the sky above, which was deep azure and free of clouds. When I developed these in Bridge, I was amazed to see what the naked eye could not, that these reflections off of these glossy leaves was a beautiful blue! Of course, but that would have been entirely lost shooting at 0 EV instead of -2.0 or lower. Keep up the outstanding work in 2020 and best wishes! Stuckey in Atlanta
Thanks for this one man. I think the hardest part for me is shooting to edit. I haven’t really found my style yet. I mostly edit to the way I remember the moment. Then stylize based one the mood. I’m also going to think more about my composition to push my photography over the edge. Thanks again.
Definitely switching between photography and videography makes everything much more exciting. Sometimes when you are at a location it soots one better than the other. And being able to switch is what makes it so much more fun. Shoot with underexposure changed my photography so much! I love to play with different angels. Thank you for this insightful video.
I just found your channel today and I love it so far. I also like the fact that your going to do more Photography related videos. After my wife lost her eyesight this year, I got to thinking about how I need to go back do what I love. So I am getting back into photography again. Keep up the great work.
I am just starting out trying to learn the art of photography, to say that it has been challenging would be an understatement. but after watching your video i cant say i fully understand everything but you have def. clarified a few things for me. i appreciate you doing this video. when you first started learning did you study this in school or did you self learn with youtube help?
Your super helpful bro, I really appreciate that your sharing information based on your own experience of photography and filmmaking. Continue to do what you do best.
I’m so glad you talked about transforming photos into something totally new via post. I hate the narrow-mindedness that so many old school photographers / videographers have when they write off any sort of heavy post-production. Like chill bruh, adapt.
Shoot to edit Shot what's not there but shoot what could be there... That opened my mind honestly.. Cause I see what I want but it doesn't come out the way I expected. So that's true.. Shot the set up but remember the lay up for the edit is where it's at... Great advice
This was beautiful man, from your explanations, visuals and intentions, your channel is such a breath of fresh air. I’m a photographer that just started youtube and finding this video reminds me why i started, i hope to create content that makes people feel the way i felt, watching this. Sending love man! ❣️🙏🏼
Really love this video! I saw your gear comparison video a little while back about cheaper and more expensive gear. I really loved that too. Gave me a little more of a push to not just spend obnoxious amounts of money right off the bat and just focus on my capabilities. So thankyou! Made a subscriber out of me for sure!
thanks for all your amazing tutorials, you really helped me become a better in my travel videos and photography! Especiallly thanks for uploading your cinematic edits, I love them.
Thank for your good advice. I always want good gear 80D for shooting while i cant. Now i love my smartphone and canon G9x mark ii videos. Thank for for motivate love what we have.
I’d love to see tips for solo travelers. I always struggle to get good shots/ videos cause its only me haha. Im new here, love your videos and the way you explain things, so easy to understand. Subscribed 🙌🏼
I use my phone to take photos and edit them. Just the camera app. I can’t really afford any expensive equipment, but I still have decent photos. I mean, everyone else who saw them said they look professional. (They just look mediocre to me though). Thank you for these tips, I will definitely take them into consideration.
I'm new to your channel but I really like your style and engagement with your viewers to help us out with these mistakes. Appreciate your wisdom and I hope to see more of your content in the future! Thanks - New Subscriber
Great video. I love what you said about being more intentional when shooting. I'm still new about 3 years in and learning, and in the last few months have been really trying to focus on being intentional about what I'm shooting. Trying to learn not to spray and pray but really take the time to create something I like and that others might enjoy. I'm a hobbyist and not on a deadline, I can take my time :)
Really liked this video. Subscribed. I wasn't expecting you to talk about ettl. Something that I've been practicing more over the last few months. Looking forward to more content. Cheers!
Thanks for the tips, dude! I will definitely be pressing on to greater achievements in 2020 with my photography and I will take all the extra help that I can get! Love what you do on your channel and know that I have been rockin the sony a6000 since I began the photography journey. 😎
I subbed with your challenge where u switched gears with a new photographer and loved the work you put out. Keep putting out this quality content because i will watch
look forward to all your posts! I myself started last year with a a6400 and im very happy I did! still many challenges but i look forward to them! Mainly doing landscape photography to learn at my own pace to frame and play with my settings. Any chance I get I go an shoot with some friends which is always a great time for me to learn to pose! Thanks again for all the advice! mainly using a Sigma 16mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.8, honestly just about all I need!
I don't agree with your exposure technique, underexposure causes noise. You should be aiming for correct exposure by controlling the highlights within the frame, like you used to do with transparency film. There are sweet spots on some digital cameras, around 160, 320, 640,1250 ISO that are not interpolated by the processor. Use these speeds for reduced noise.
@@SURREALL69 good exposure and colors are non negociable when you take picture. As the author said, focus on your skills as a photographer. if you take underexposed picture, you will lose informations that will cause noises. Don't use post editing or your camera quality to compensate a bad photography, or a misunderstanding on how to take picture.
@@libertedeseduire6765 if its raw format you can get most of you colors back 😂 especially if ur phone or computer can edit raw. And sonys can shoot really high iso with minimal to no noise. Try looking at photographers like @ 7th era and @ northborders
@@SURREALL69 I believe you. But I'm trying as much as I can to take good picture with good light. almost all my portrait pictures don't need post editing.

Anto I’m also new so I don’t know much but I’ve found the canon 200D mark 2 (aka 250d or SL3) it has really good battery life, the processor is the best one out and auto eye detection focus, it’s a little more expensive but it seems to be better. There’s lots of RUclips videos on it testing photo and video too!
This is such a great video! Very helpful, short and sweet. I will definitely be keeping this in mind for my next shoot! Especially the shooting under exposure part because I went out today and even though my IOS was low my pictures were still kind of bright...could have just been the position I had them in maybe... Btw I love the music you played at the end ☺🎶💜.
Hey bro, I read and watched a lot about shooting in slog 3, I saw is recommended to shoot on 1.70 or 2.00 over exposed, what do you think? you shoot your slog3 videos with this rule?
I am subscribed just now. Did i just spend too much for a begginer? I order the a7ii. Please let me know to keep or to get a lower budget camera. Much appreciate. I wanna learn this hobby.
IMO, nobody can tell you the best camera to start out with, since it is all money talk. If you intend to go forward with photography, a feature packed camera offers you immediate access to learn how to use many of the more advance features, instead of waiting for an upgrade. Once you have used a capable camera, such as the flagship model, then you can learn and even hang out the shingle to do business with the same camera, later on. Also, it makes most of the items on the other's wish list just one's past experience. So, why wasting time thinking about the next camera, but instead to concentrate on learning the craft. For instance, why upgrading to FF when it was what the photographer started out with, LOL. Of course, one doesn't need a better camera to capture a masterpiece. But how many photographers are fully capable without some assistance from their cameras and truly artistic? Not good at focusing? Buy a camera with alien eyes-tracking even in the dark. Otherwise, most people with a smartphone can deliver better images than Master Photographer, Fan Ho, who used a TLR. Compare Fan Ho's work with some of today's photographers and see what is the difference between WOW and nice technically. It isn't just about composition or storytelling, but able to turn artistic visualization into a photographic image, using the various composition & darkroom/pp tricks to package it to knock viewers off their feet.
Emiliano Di Coccoi check out my pinned comment !! I would only underexpose to preserve my highlights, if I have even lighting then I would expose as is.
