Good to know thank you. I am new to the Witcher and had no idea where to start. I started reading Blood of Elves first but as I was reading it I felt like I was missing out on a lot. Now that I know The Last Wish is recommended first I will be reading that. Thanks again
I adore your passion for 'The Witcher', I have not seen many people reading the books. I watched the first season on Netflix and it was brilliant! I'm starting with the book 'Blood of elves'. thank you for this video, very helpful. I would love to see more videos based around The Witcher!
Stumbled upon your channel, took your advice and started with “the last wish” and now on “sword of destiny” and I am in tears after finishing the chapter with Little Eye. I played the game and never knew about the books till I found your channel. Needless to say I am hooked. Thank you thank you thank you for this emotional trauma at the hands of paperback which I am helplessly facing.
Wow great review! I just started playing the game and feel in love with the world of the Witcher and wanted to read the books! Idk how you don’t have more subscribers you have a very professional delivery in your review! One of the best I’ve seen on RUclips!
I've never read the books before, and your video is the only one that gave me a detailed chronological order. Thank you so much. This video really helped.
Really helpful video, have been reading them on and off since I finished the Wild Hunt in 2017. I think I read them in a strange order; I read The Last Wish first, then Blood of the Elves, Sword of Destiny, Time of Contempt. I’m now reading Baptism of Fire, I haven’t read them all but I have to agree with you this one is my favourite so far! The introduction of some really lovable characters!
I've been thinking about Getting into the Witcher. Glad you have this. The way you describe Last Wish reminds me a bit of the Conan stories. Robert Howard said he wrote them as though it was Conan telling you stories from his life, which someone would never tell stories chronologically unless they were asked to. Anyway, thanks for the Witcher videos if I do start reading them.
In the middle of reading Last Wish, really good read and extremely graphic in many ways. Looking forward to the next, thanks for posting the video I was going to just follow the publication order but this gives me some other ideas I like it.
This is so helpful! I’ve been wondering which books to read first for months. A few people told me I didn’t need to read in publication order, but this makes me feel a whole lot better 🤓😊
Ughhh can't believe i just came across this video now that I'm reading boe :( I searched google for canon order and ended up reading sos thirdly, with strong thoughts that i should be reading it secondly, and sometimes getting confused whether i should have read it first lol your short stories mix order explains it all!!
Thank you! I'm new to the series. I just finished the last wish and started sword of destiny without being sure if i was reading it in the correct order. Now i know i'm good :)
Thanks for the recommendations! I just finished the last wish and the sword of destiny and I’m so glad I did it that way! (The short story of little eye was so so good but so gut wrenching) looking forward to the rest of the books now!
Hi Elliott! I’m starting The last Wish tomorrow, I read somewhere that the best reading order goes like the following list: 1. A Grain of Truth (The Last Wish) 2. The Lesser Evil (The Last Wish) 3. The Edge Of the World (The Last Wish) 4. The Last Wish (The Last Wish) 5. Season of Storms (Full book) 6. A Question of Price (The Last Wish) 7. The Witcher (The Last Wish) 8. The Voice of Reason (The Last Wish) 9. The Bounds of Reason (Sword of Destiny) 10. A Shard of Ice (Sword of Destiny) 11. Eternal Flame (Sword of Destiny) 12. A little Sacrifice (Sword of Destiny) 13. The Sword of Destiny (Sword of Destiny) 14. Something More (Sword of Destiny) 15. Blood of Elves (Full Book) 16. The Time of Contempt (Full Book) 17. Baptism of Fire (Full Book) 18. The Tower of Swallows (Full Book) 19. The Lady of the Lake (Full Book) What do you think about this order?
Love the witcher lore almost done with the TV show now . Read most of the books and played the last 2 games. Can't get enough of the world of the witcher !
I started reading the Blood of Elves , i remember watching this and it totally makes sense to read them in order you suggested! Its nice to have that background, your kind of thrown in there with the Blood of the Elves... So i have exceeded my book budget for the month, but at least ill benefit going through the series. Thanks!!
Ahh thank you for this video!!! I recently started reading The Last Wish and playing Witcher 3. SO new to this incredible Witcher universe but so excited to explore it! :-)
I just purchased The Last Witch because they're coming out with the TV show soon and I was curious about the books. I'd seen the game floating around but I'd never played it even though it looked right up my alley. I'm very excited to read the book and maybe even watch the show once it's out.
I actually read (or listened) to the Last Wish and I really didn't like it all. Maybe listening it was a bad idea, maybe because it was short stories... But after hearing you talk about it in many videos, I decided to give the series a second chance and re-start with 'Blood of Elves' :))))) Here's to hoping I like it this time ^^
Great explanation of the series that one should follow. I didn't think it was possible, but you actually manage to look way more beautiful than the actress who plays Yennefer in the Netflix series, and she is hot af. If you ever get tired of making exceptionally good book-related videos, you could easily succeed as an actress and/or model. Thanks again for another helpful and enjoyable video!
I posted on Instagram that my hubby just got me the first two books. I just wanted to thank you for this video. It helped me determine the order in which to read the series. Also you did another video about the series that made me look into the series. Again, thank you and I’ll let you know how much I love them (hopefully) !
just bought last wish before watching this video, luckily i clicked on a link that gave me accurate info because i almost made the mistake of buying the wrong one
Just read the entire series in chronological order finishing with the epilog of season of storms last. Highly recommend it that way. Everything makes more sense this way and the story works great.
Thanks for telling us the right order of Witcher. Before this I read them in the publication order & currently I'm watching Netflix "The Witcher" series. Best Wishes from India 🇮🇳.
Baptism of fire is good, but I love tower of the swallow. The way he uses imagery like the doll in the room with Geralt and yennifer to let you when it’s a flashback and the current timeline. It was pretty genius for a dumby like me that gets confused during flashback sequences in books.
Edit: Minor spoilers. I don't think it matters much, but you've been warned. Im currently reading baptism of fire. I'm halfway through after geralt and dandilion were captured by temerian/cintran army. I found the books "OK" but I wasn't really into it that much, even spending a month per book up to this point. With Baptism of fire, im totally hooked, can hardly stop reading. In only 2 days ive gotten to the half way point.
Oh I got it right! Thanks for the tip. Just started the last wish several months ago and have been enjoying it even more after the Netflix series and playing the Witcher3. Ahh nothing like a good series to sink your teeth into. Maybe this will tide me over until Rothfuss finally finishes his third novel in the name of the wind series.
Season of Storms is a bit more complicated, most of it taking place before Geralt went to Temeria to fight the striga but after he met Yennefer, so somewhere between the stories in "The Last Wish" collection, also Nimue appear in that book and you can't understand who she are if you haven't read "The Lady of the Lake". In short it is better to read Season of Storms last, despite it being officially a prequel.
If any of you can listen to your phone at work, i highly recommend the audio books. I forgot the guys name that reads it (Peter Kenny?) but he does a great job with the voice acting.
Wow! Thank you so so much. I was just on Amazon getting ready to purchase the blood of elves, what I thought was the third book in the series of five, and found myself confused... Seeing what looked to be seven books and the numbering system was wonky and so I was like, “I need to check RUclips and see if somebody can explain this to me “I mediately found your video here and got a good understanding of what’s going on. But even better! I’ve now subscribed to that app you mentioned and I’m going to listen to the next three books instead of by them. Which I love way more! Thank you so very much for the plug to the audiobook app eight dollars a month is totally worth it. Plus you get the first month free. You just got a new subscriber
Elliot Brooks Yes, thanks again! You might be interested to know that I, about a month ago picked up the Witcher 3 video game, and all of its downloadable content for a shockingly low price. I was loading into the game and it started asking me questions about how to make certain story decisions regarding previous games. I immediately felt like I would do the game disservice if I didn’t really know the world of the Witcher and decided to read all of the books 1st before I play the game. So it’s been a fun adventure now Moving into the blood of elves to experience the books and enjoy them ...but ultimately be looking forward to playing the game when I’m finished. I gather I’ll enjoy the video game A thousand times more having deeply digested the culture of Witcher books.
I actually played the Wild Hunt first 😆 But I suppose it made me enjoy the books more since I already had an idea of what the characters looked and sounded like. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the story. I’m rereading the series now 😊
Oh my gosh, I obsessed with your videos. I can't stop watching!! And this series, you hyped me up for it, I'm definitely starting it soon and I just promised myself yesterday no more new series until I finish the ones I'm halfway in 😟 Well that didn't last long, I blame you for my downfall, but since I'm going down anyway it might as well be a glorious fall with awesome books on my read shelf 🙂
I watched the show and now I'm starting with blood of elves, since last wish and sword of destiny is what is featured in season 1 of the show. I know they didnt put everything in the show but I really wanted to continue where they left the story on netflix. When I'm done with the 5 books I'll go back to the short stories and hopefully I will find there some nice surprises to complete the puzzle for me :)
My preferred reading order is something I invented based on the idea that saga is almost broken up neatly into three arcs. -Start with the Last Wish for the introduction of all the major characters and the set-up of Ciri with 'A Question of Price' - Go right in to Blood of Elves - Then Time of Contempt- these two books compliment eachother well and round out the first 'arc' setting up the characters nicely to start a new chapter of the adventure in the rather tonally different Baptism of Fire. - Pause the saga here and go and read Season of Storms. Time of Contempt is kind of light on the adventuring and Season of Storms is a nice little break. It also hints more at the Yennefer/Geralt relationship which we don't get too much of in the upcoming books, and people may be curious about at this stage. - Baptism of Fire next -Then Tower of Swallows- These books set Geralt and Ciri's stories on the path towards their conclusions and you get a LOT of Geralt in one and a LOT of Ciri in the other. They are quite similar thematically and make up the 'second arc' of the story (I call it the pursuit arc) - Now go and read Sword of Destiny. I think it's a really interesting time to take a break from the saga overall and get a more fleshed out backstory for the characters of Ciri and Yennefer at this point, as well as some more insight into Dandelion. It's interesting, in my opinion, to have characters that we now know pretty well be recontextualized before the finale. Also reading 'Something More' at this stage is way more meaningful and give a renewed interest into Geralt's quest in the Saga. - Finish off with Lady of the Lake because of course, that's all that remains. - Then cry. A lot. Because it's such a beautiful ending. "Vaesse deireadh aep eigean...something ends."
My goodness, don’t make me get all sad!!! 😩 I do have a question though! First off, that reading order sounds awesome and I may have to try that at some point. But I’m curious as to when you’d read the epilogue of Season of Storms. It hints so much at what happens in the end. Would you read it after Lady of the Lake, or just read it in the place you mentioned?
Elliot Brooks I just skimmed through it to see how spoilerish it is and I think you'll be safe to read it after time of contempt. It gives you a stronger introduction to nimue (who appears in baptism of fire too so that's a nice little connection!) and doesn't really give the game away because it's all vague talk of fairy tales and legends and takes place in the future a bit
I didn't read the short stories until after I was done with Time of Contempt and I have to say they work very well this way. You're already invested into the characters so it's nice to find out how they met.
I've read these books more than ten years ago. Great series, one of my favourites. Now I am reading The Dresden Files ( Jim Butcher ). Greetings from Barcelona!
I finished Blood of Elves a few weeks ago after reading Last Wish and Sword of Destiny and this is easily becoming one of my favorite series I love all these characters especially Dandelion GOD I Love Dandelion he is my favorite! I'm going to read Time Of Contempt very soon and can't also wait to play the games!
I read 100 pages into blood of elves thinking it was the first book to read and now I started the last wish and so far it's pretty good and I cant wait to finish the books so I could go and play all of the games
@Elliot Brooks, so I'm Polish but I haven't read a book in Polish in about 20 years(magazine here n there n text mostly ). I know books are always better in original written language. I plan to read it both in Polish n English but been actually thinking about reading English version first. How good is English translation?
I'm so glad you made this video Elliot. You are a time saver 😁. It's great cuz while I'm enjoying the witcher 3 game, I feel it does leave a lot of questions I be needing answered. I'm still kinda new to Geralt story & these books I feel with answer some things like why he & triss broke up. How he actually got as strong as he is now. I think for me, imma start with the season of storms 1st (since it's a prequel) & then read the last wish & the publication order. You made everything so easy; so I thank you. Happy reading & wishing you a lovely day with green tea ☘🍵
Without spoiling anything, Geralt and Triss' relationship happens in the first two video games, not in the books so if you want some insight into that in particular I'd go and look for a summary of those.
Safina N I'm doing very well. I just finishing uploading my last Sonic 2 video & unfortunately he didn't make it lol 😂. Also enjoying some tea! Hope your good & Happy Reading To Ya ☕🍀

I never even heard of The Witcher until they showed it at E3 2004/2005. Love the games, played all of them many times. I'm not a big book reader at all, but I think I might start.
Just finished reading all of them. Like i finished seasons 3 minutes ago. No spoilers but, there are a few ty-ins in seasons i would not have understood if i didnt read all the other books first. If you start with seasons, which would be chronological the first one. You'd be lost in the dark with all the lore. Just do last wish, sword, the saga 1till 5 and only then seasons. (And accept the fact it takes place before the striga and after the last wish short story)
Just finished season of storms. I was a bit confused with the epilog and the changed writing style compares to the last wish (didnt look at the puplication date because my editions put season of storm As the second prequel)
For anyone whose a gamer the Witcher games are very good, with Wild Hunt (3) being one of the very best of all time. For those who aren't gamers after you get through the books/series watch one of the Cut Scene movies for Witcher 3 on RUclips. You don't need to have any exposure to the first two games to play/watch 3 and you won't miss anything important to the story. Long but you can consume in chunks (it can run between 5 and 10 hours for all the cut scenes depending on the vid/play through). The games take place after the books and the books really only add to the lore depths. Aside from Ciri growing up to be the most OP badass ever the character of Triss is really expanded on and she's every bit as cool as Yennefer. And, it give Geralt a pretty satisfying end.
Can you tell us about the translation? Is it good? I'm asking because I'm a Brazilian reader who wants to start the series in English and I've seem some comments on Amazon from people who weren't quite satisfied with the English translation. Thanks a lot for your help and the great work with the video.
Anyones thoughts on the Elric of Melniboné books from michael moorcock and how they compare to the witcher books. My brother is a purist and claims elric is a darker and more badass set of stories that the witcher is based off of. How true is that statement? I still wanna read witcher and elric books. Ive purchased the last wish on audiobooks so im excited to start it.

@@Tatert212 A lot of prequels are written after a series has been going for a while, and there can be information that spoils a series if you read it first.
Especially the end with Nimue is much better to read as an end to the series.
@@smuckfuzzer well, the sole definition of prequel means that it is happening before the main story, no? So no prequel can exist without a main story.
One of my favorite books 📚
I was happy the show started with the short story material. The first two short stories introduce the whole universe, definitely a must.
I think The Last Wish is one of the top Witcher books, probably my second favorite after Time of Contempt 😀 so do not skip it!! 😅
The ending section of Time of Contempt is stellar. It's a solid book.
I just finished ToC and I was quite bored. The main Ciri chapter is good but the writing style is a bit iffy. Maybe just because it’s translated.

I have a whole playlist!
I’m glad you liked the show :) I didn’t love it, but I think I’m that annoying person that’s like, “But in the books...” 🤓
Soooo grateful you made this, I just picked up The Last Wish a couple of hours ago and I needed some guidance, thank you!
Oh my gosh, isn’t that one so sad?!? The last page of that short story was not what I was expecting AT ALL but it’s so good!!!! 😆😆😆
Wow great review! I just started playing the game and feel in love with the world of the Witcher and wanted to read the books! Idk how you don’t have more subscribers you have a very professional delivery in your review! One of the best I’ve seen on RUclips!
Thanks. The show made want to read this. Cannot wait years for all those seasons to be released.
You’re very welcome! 🐺

I've never read the books before, and your video is the only one that gave me a detailed chronological order. Thank you so much. This video really helped.
You’re very welcome! ❤️
Holy hell. This is just great. I keep seeing so many books of my interest here. The Witcher seris is awesome and so is this channel. Keep it up.
Aw, thank you! Yay for Witcher :D
Ughhh can't believe i just came across this video now that I'm reading boe :( I searched google for canon order and ended up reading sos thirdly, with strong thoughts that i should be reading it secondly, and sometimes getting confused whether i should have read it first lol
your short stories mix order explains it all!!
Thank you! I'm new to the series. I just finished the last wish and started sword of destiny without being sure if i was reading it in the correct order. Now i know i'm good :)
Many thanks.
I'm going to start reading "the last wish".
Wish me luck.
Good luck! 😊
Thanks for the recommendations! I just finished the last wish and the sword of destiny and I’m so glad I did it that way! (The short story of little eye was so so good but so gut wrenching) looking forward to the rest of the books now!
Hi Elliott! I’m starting The last Wish tomorrow, I read somewhere that the best reading order goes like the following list:
1. A Grain of Truth (The Last Wish)
2. The Lesser Evil (The Last Wish)
3. The Edge Of the World (The Last Wish)
4. The Last Wish (The Last Wish)
5. Season of Storms (Full book)
6. A Question of Price (The Last Wish)
7. The Witcher (The Last Wish)
8. The Voice of Reason (The Last Wish)
9. The Bounds of Reason (Sword of Destiny)
10. A Shard of Ice (Sword of Destiny)
11. Eternal Flame (Sword of Destiny)
12. A little Sacrifice (Sword of Destiny)
13. The Sword of Destiny (Sword of Destiny)
14. Something More (Sword of Destiny)
15. Blood of Elves (Full Book)
16. The Time of Contempt (Full Book)
17. Baptism of Fire (Full Book)
18. The Tower of Swallows (Full Book)
19. The Lady of the Lake (Full Book)
What do you think about this order?
I remember watching your video when I was playing Witcher game in 2018 I guees. Nice too see you again. Cheers
I'm planning to start these books next month and this video was very helpful for the order, so thank you 😊
Sorry to be so superficial but, you are beautiful and the fact that your into these books , sets me over the TOP! lol Thanks for the order.
I really wish I had this video a few years back when I first picked up Witcher, because I was so confuse! this really helped so much
Love the witcher lore almost done with the TV show now . Read most of the books and played the last 2 games. Can't get enough of the world of the witcher !
That’s awesome! Glad you’ve been enjoying Witcher so much 😄
I started reading the Blood of Elves , i remember watching this and it totally makes sense to read them in order you suggested!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I was getting a bit confused (as a fantasy newbie) and really wanted to start the series and this has really helped!
I’ll be finishing The Last Wish tomorrow, really looking forward getting to the main series. I like the short stories but I prefer a full novel.
I’m so glad you did this video!! I was so confused... now off to reading!
Best Wishes from India 🇮🇳.
just received my witcher book set, can't wait to read them. Btw , thanks for the video, it helped me decide reading order.
The Witcher series really can't be bleat.
@MusicisLife8393 what's that?

Baptism of fire is good, but I love tower of the swallow. The way he uses imagery like the doll in the room with Geralt and yennifer to let you when it’s a flashback and the current timeline. It was pretty genius for a dumby like me that gets confused during flashback sequences in books.
Thank you for this video. I wasn't sure where to start this series and your video helped me a lot.
I've been working on the Silmarillion currently. One day I fully intend to jump into this series, one day.
Hi... I just started The Witcher Saga this year... This video is really helpful...
Video is 4:20 long. Nice.
Also, I think we have the exact same book cases
I got mine from Walmart’s website :)
Just ordered The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Can't wait to get them
Finally, finally getting around to reading this series!! I bought them all out of order and im so excited
The books on ur shelf are making me feel about the amount of knowledge i m lacking. Can u share the list of all those books ?
Thanks for the updated video. I have the books and they are in the line up to be read!!
Yay!!! I hope you love them :D they’re definitely a really different writing style compared to what I usually read, but I love them ❤️
If any of you can listen to your phone at work, i highly recommend the audio books. I forgot the guys name that reads it (Peter Kenny?) but he does a great job with the voice acting.
Holy hell!?! I saw this on my recommendations and clicked so fast because I saw a beautiful.........
Set of Witcher books.😉👌😎😁
Carrera4K Congrats, you tried.
Wow, thanks! Glad it was so helpful :D I remember being quite confused when I went to buy them myself, so I’m happy this was useful for you 😄
Elliot Brooks Yes, thanks again!
Thanks for putting the order in the description!!!
You’re welcome!
Played a good chunk of the witcher 3 game. Started the TV series. Interested to get into the books.
My preferred reading order is something I invented based on the idea that saga is almost broken up neatly into three arcs.
-Start with the Last Wish for the introduction of all the major characters and the set-up of Ciri with 'A Question of Price'
- Go right in to Blood of Elves
- Then Time of Contempt- these two books compliment eachother well and round out the first 'arc' setting up the characters nicely to start a new chapter of the adventure in the rather tonally different Baptism of Fire.
- Pause the saga here and go and read Season of Storms. Time of Contempt is kind of light on the adventuring and Season of Storms is a nice little break. It also hints more at the Yennefer/Geralt relationship which we don't get too much of in the upcoming books, and people may be curious about at this stage.
- Baptism of Fire next
-Then Tower of Swallows- These books set Geralt and Ciri's stories on the path towards their conclusions and you get a LOT of Geralt in one and a LOT of Ciri in the other. They are quite similar thematically and make up the 'second arc' of the story (I call it the pursuit arc)
- Now go and read Sword of Destiny.
This video is perfect! Exactly what I needed at the moment I needed it!!! Thank you!!!
You’re welcome! Glad it helped 😄
I played the witcher 3 and watched the Netflix series. Figured I would jump into the books now. Thanks for the video. 👌
Are they actually any good? How do they compare to say, David Gemmell?
I read 100 pages into blood of elves thinking it was the first book to read and now I started the last wish and so far it's pretty good and I cant wait to finish the books so I could go and play all of the games
Very helpful, thanks a lot! Keep posting awesome videos!!!!
@Elliot Brooks, so I'm Polish but I haven't read a book in Polish in about 20 years(magazine here n there n text mostly ). I know books are always better in original written language. I plan to read it both in Polish n English but been actually thinking about reading English version first. How good is English translation?
Thank you. I was wondering about the best book order. Have a great New Year!
Thanks, you too!
Thank you very much. Now i know where to start.
Thank you so much for your video! What about 'something Ends, something begins' ? Is that also in the witcher universe?
I'm so glad you made this video Elliot. You are a time saver 😁. It's great cuz while I'm enjoying the witcher 3 game, I feel it does leave a lot of questions I be needing answered. I'm still kinda new to Geralt story & these books I feel with answer some things like why he & triss broke up. How he actually got as strong as he is now. I think for me, imma start with the season of storms 1st (since it's a prequel) & then read the last wish & the publication order. You made everything so easy; so I thank you. Happy reading & wishing you a lovely day with green tea ☘🍵
Also quick fan question; which female character do you like in the witcher series?
GEORGIO MOSLEY hi 👋🏻 how are u?? Happy reading to u!!
Plots And Points Thanks soo much! Yep I'm super new to franchise but it's so intriguing about the character relationships. Imma look that up now. You rock 😁💯👍
I have just ordered the books looking forward to reading them I love the witcher 3 wild hunt haven't seen the Netflix series since my friends told me that while Henry cavil is amazing as Gerald it's not a good adaptation and I have Always planed on reading the books when I played the 3rd game in 2020 but then I started school again exams and then college but now I finally have a good schedule so time to read them
ooh thanks for this!! bummer Scribd doesn't have them atm, hopefully it won't be long for them to capitalize on the 'new' flow after the series' launch! TY :)
Your comment is old, but I read seasons as book 3 before blood of elves. That worked best for me! Seasons is my favourite of the entire saga :D
Just finished season of storms. I was a bit confused with the epilog and the changed writing style compares to the last wish (didnt look at the puplication date because my editions put season of storm As the second prequel)
Thanks for this, I have the badly numbered one so i started on the wrong book but this list will help.
What about the voice of reason
Gonna be totaly honest with you but i like the tower of the swallow more than the baptism of fire, although baptism of fire was realy good too.
¡Hola! Soy nuevo en tu canal y me agradó tu video. ¿En cuánto tiempo leés un solo libro?
Awesome vid! Also, I see your Vagabond Collection right there!! 10 out of 10!
