That was interesting and thought provoking. I just had the idea of getting a mirror and somehow removing the reflective silver in a circle in the middle. Maybe with paint remover/scraping or even cut a hole so the lens can look through back to another parallel mirror opposite. Could almost get proper infinity, may need a couple of big mirrors...

I have seen the "infinity" mirror technique used really effectively to create an aircraft model diorama depicting the building of B-17 bombers into a massive production line.

Try shooting with open iris/high stop to get rid of unwanted shallow focus ... that way foreground and background can match better because they have the same focal look

One I done was a vampire shot. Two people (me and my girlfriend) in front of a mirror me standing behind kissing her neck. Then a second shot with her not moving and me out of the picture. I then layered in PS and removed one half of the top layer leaving the reflection with me missing.

Hand mirrors aren’t too expensive. You could find a cheap one at Ikea, or a garage sale. I’m sure Walmart would even find something suitable.
