This song makes me happy and makes cry at the same time. This song came out during the crack era. My mom was hooked on drugs really bad. When I hear this song it gives me memories as a kid running around the projects playing with my friends. I love this song because I am able to capture fun memories as a kid, but it's very depressing to me. My mom loved this song, and it pains me she suffered for years because of drugs. Growing up in the 80s was a different time.

Back in 1989, my girlfriend (at the time) sang this to me acapella when we decided to make things official. It was one of the most beautiful thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. We both ended up in tears afterwards. My heart just melted.
    Ah....teenage love.
Things didn’t work out between us, but that moment was one of the bookmarks of my life.

Don't Make Me Over is a cover of a classic song by Dionne Warwick, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Sybil released her version in 1989 and it became a hit on the R&B and dance charts. I love how Sybil updated the song with a modern sound and added her own flair to it. Absolute classic! ❤

Her rendition of this tune is just too beautiful for words. She must have sung this tune constantly while she was a girl. There has never ever been a cover of this Bacharach tune by anyone including Dionne Warwick that can touch Sibyl. My music teacher was Yusef Lateef at Amherst and we analyzed this tune together while Dr. Lateef was still alive. Sibyls version differs just slightly in harmony from Dionne’s and that’s why it’s so melancholic. Sibyl is a brilliant artist and this tune will remain timeless.
