    A fan theory on a small detail, thought up by yours truly: Think of it as a 'what if'.
    The graves just prior to the Canyon Wreckage you looked at were prepared by Ulysses. Although he doesn't feel vengeful towards you by the time you make your way to the Divide doesn't mean he never felt that way before then. Didn't he expect you would die carrying the platinum chip?

      luckylucas 1 that is one of the things that really surprised me after reading the book, Raven Rock, was how little effort was put into actually protecting people. It seemed the entire purpose of continuity of government was less to do with ensuring the survival of the American people and government, and more to do with ensuring that, should the worst come to pass, the United States would fire a retaliatory strike. That actually seems like the only COG operation that had the resources to actually succeed in its purpose.

      @@The_Stumbler I'm not doubting that 'Spears' is military slang for nuclear bombs, I'm just saying that Ulysses wasn't referring to them as such because Old World soldiers did; he was just naming them that because he articulates his speech in a very poetic fashion; like he'll also refer to them as 'giants' etc.

      @@bucketofdicks4096 I mean with Ulysses, that seems to be more his priority with speaking, hell the whole the "flashback" oxhorn did was to a very poetic holotape. honestly I would believe you are right, more of that he just is wanting to be poetic as his priority. I mean it could also be poetic to his old legion self with one of their weapons being a throwing spear.

      Ryan Hawkins this may be late, but it's the truth.
      During the Cold War, all personnel that had access to the launch codes had briefcases where they would have to unlock it and input the code and press a button and they would launch. And to avoid having to remember a complex code that would take too long to launch the nukes, they decided to make the passwords all 0's.

      @MRDRAXX Same. Though I fought it out with Ulysses for another reason: the man presents a threat overall to the region. He's completely insane, unhinged, and intent upon revenge for no reason (the Courier couldn't have know what was in the package, his/her job is delivery). Nothing says he would stop there in the Divide if he focused on revenging himself on others.

    • @mish375

      @robert20351 The issue I have with Ulysses' speech is that it feels superfluous and comes across as vacuous at times. Or arrogant, whichever you choose. He could easily get to the point; but then again he is completely insane. One could argue he's constructed his narrative of revenge and is therefore using those theatrics to fit that world view and identity he has constructed.

    It was nice to see obsidian studio give a nod to real world events. Between 1962 to 1977 during the cold war, the code meant to prevent unauthorised launching of the United States arsenal of Minuteman nuclear missiles was (apparently) "00000000" Yes that's right, 8 zeros! The permissive action link (PAL) code first came to light in 2004, after Bruce Blair, a former Minuteman missile launch control officer disclosed it in a column for the centre for defence information. According to Blair, the White House (under JFK) in 1962, ordered the codes to be installed despite objections from the US strategic air command which worried the extra layer of security would delay the launching of missiles in the event of an emergency. Nonetheless, official followed the orders and began phasing in the locks but all the while setting the "secret unlock code" to eight zeros. "The locks had been installed but everyone knew the combination and if you actually forgot it, it was written down on a checklist handed out to soldiers on the base" stated Blair. Sometimes, real life is WAY more scary than fantasy.Looks like in the fallout universe similar things happened except in this one the codes were left set at zero (or they had them reverted back) all the way up to 2077.

      Exactly DCT. Like they have brought up since the early ones regarding "That Gun/ 2019 Detective Special" which links back to Fallout 1 and 2 as well as Fallout New Vegas (and of course a nod to Blade Runner). Actually I like all of either real world, pop culture and so on things all of the Fallout creators put in. Some like the nuclear code ones though you think are incredulous to the point of must be made up only to find are yeaaaah that's true is somewhat scary when you think about it. One of my favourites has to be the Y17 Harness guys saying "who turned out the lights" Dr Who reference in old world blues. I was hoping at some point to find some gas mask clad creatures saying "muuuuuuuuuumy! muuuuuuuuumy! Are you my mummy?" while chasing you down (another Dr Who reference).

    Fun Fact: The ArmCo company mentioned when asking EDE about reloading tools is quite likely a reference to the Armscor company whose U.S. office is located just west of Las Vegas. The company is known for their affordably priced yet medium quality cheap imported guns and ammunition. Their ammunition, .22 caliber in particular has developed a bad reputation for being about 10% duds.
    Fun Fact two: If you look up Armscor's U.S. location on a map you will see that in the Fallout universe it would be located just over the mountains west of Jacobstown and Red Rock Canyon in the town of Pahrump Nevada.

    Oxhorn, when Ulysses writes "You can go home" he means that Courier 6 may return to their place of origin. He didn't mean Vegas, which may have become the Courier's new home. The Courier still originated from some other place and Ulysses was clearly talking about that.

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  6 лет назад +6

      That doesn't make sense to me. What you say is true about the Courier's home, however his use of the word "can" makes it hard for him to mean "the divide" as the Courier's home. After all, that is where the Courier is headed already. "Of course I can go home--I am going home right now!" If Ulysses meant the divide as the Courier's home, he would have simply said, "Go home, Courier". His use of the word "can" leaves the impression that he is informing the Courier that he can do something that he is not currently doing, as if he haddn't considered it yet. Since the Courier is currently on the way to the divide, the home Ulysses must be referring to is Vegas. This is made more evident in future conversation with Ulysses, when he blames the Courier for being thoughtless.

    • @Yan_Alkovic
      @Yan_Alkovic 6 лет назад +2

      Huh, I guess that does make a certain amount of sense. It just seems weird to me that Ulysses would give the Courier reassurance. I mean, what does he gain from telling the Courier that they can return to Vegas if they want to? Oh well.... That's not that important anyway.

All of this before even playing through the actual game.

    i wonder if Oxhorn finishes editing a considerable part of the episodes of a series before uploading or is it an edit and upload as it goes on. also if there's a dedicated script or just bullet points and if he works by his lonesome. either way, the fact that he works hard and meticulously shows and i admire him for it.

    Oxhorn, as you probably know, Ulysses has different faction dialogue depending on your reputation (The NCR and the Legion are the obvious ones, The Strip reputation is for mr House and neutral rep is for You/Yes Man/Independent) and sometimes debates with you about those factions.
    My question is, will you cover those pieces of dialogue (in a separate video perhaps?) or shall you stick with The NCR dialogue and that's it?

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  6 лет назад +11

      His response is the same for most of these choices (I showed NCR and Legion in this video--his response was the same for both). Where his response differs, I will show the difference.

    • @stesnuash8986
      @stesnuash8986 6 лет назад +14

      Oxhorn
      It's not about his responses. Most of them are, indeed, the same. His dialogue changes mostly upon "greetings". For example, if your Strip rep is higher than the NCR rep, Ulysses will not speak with you about "two-headed bear is getting nowhere" and "heard about you, walking the mojave, giving the Bear strenght" like he did in the video and instead will comment on your allegiance with Vegas and Old World Ghosts. His second interaction with you (the one before the High Road) are the most notable. As I recall, he argued with me for five minutes straight about House and how the world has no future with him (he says, quote, "your future with House has two roads. The road tribals in Vegas walked, their spirits crushed... Or your face on a robot servant, smiling forever in a dead casino. There is future in neither").
      Few more notable changes - his last dialogue, where you can persuade him into giving New Vegas a chanse to become your "new Divide", and the courier duster you receive in the end. There are four versions of this duster, all have different symbols on the back and different effects.
