Oh God. As someone who never had a game console as a kid, I'd rent this from the library all the damn time and play it on my Windows 95 toaster computer. Remember libraries?
max corrice I would stroll on down to the Library of Alexandria and while away the hours studying papyrus scrolls with the teachings of Pythagoras, and reading fantastic tales about the gods... Remember papyrus?
Remember them?! I used all of that stuff until like freaking 2008! (not joking, the fist computer my family got after our Win 95 died of a burnt out video card ran on the latest OS at the time, Win Vista.) Heck I STILL use VHS, I own like half of the original Pokemon cartoon on VHS. good lord I feel old.
Oh my GOD!!! This was one of the first games baby me played! I only have extremely vague recollections of delivering pizzas, cops eating donuts, the Brickster breaking out- I was so young there was no way I ever would've remember the game's name to look it up for nostalgia. I'm sooo glad I stumbled upon the Grumps doing this.
Watching this is a fucking Nostalgia trip. I forgot how broken and chaotic this game was. glad to know my game wasn't the only one with constant out of place echoing voices.
Monketron I remember playing this back in elementary school at ACE (After Class Enrichment) ACE was basically the elementary school equivalent of clubs, with stuff like computer club, where you just played computer games, tai kwon do club, and lego club. I remember in lego club they had this and lego racers as games you could play and I recall that stupid skeleton on the race track giving me the hardest time! God these videos bring me back!
OH MY GOD SO MANY MEMORIES! Blew my mind how you can explore. Replaying it now its very unresponsive. When you try to build a helicopter in the police station, you just have to be lucky that you select something. Its like how is there no detection of what i'm clicking on?
Yeah...when this came out, I pretty much didn't even understand how to play it, because 3D games just weren't really a thing. This shit was like Skyrim back in the day.
Turnt SNACO >3D wasn't really a thing. Need I remind you of Wolfenstein 3D, Blake Stone, Heretic, Hexen, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, BLOOD etc.? All of which came out either around the same time as this game or before this game came out.
Ah my childhood....eating salsbury steak tv dinners and playing this game while my dad was screaming at the top of his lungs to get in the living room as I was being homeschooled. Good times.
gds2015 Yeah, that's what it seems like, I definitely remember the pizza delivery guy as the main character and the Brickster as the villain. Although I swear the voice acting was way better in the PSX game.
I couldn't for the life-of-me ever figure out the fishing game, it took me YEARS until I realized that I had to be patient to catch Big Bertha, and that was only after I had managed to complete the other Lego Island Games multiple times over. The one thing that I couldn't stand however was the long-ass loading screen, which wasn't an intentional problem as many people pointed out: it was the result of a coding issue that prioritized rendering the Loading Screen over the Game itself: that's right, the Loading Screen was loading the *LOADING SCREEN* first!
I love how accurate the minifigs move sometimes. No elbows or knees or ball joints. If they need to shrug or stretch out, their pieces just pop out and back in.
Oh my God! Growing up, Lego Island was my jam! I was a master at racing! Watching it now, I can't help but wonder if everybody on the island is on speed or something.
I re-checked and the video is now appropriately named "Wings of Vi - SteamTrain" so even though we see a 1 on the thumbnail, it's not a series. Confusing much.
Kuonluw When it was uploaded, it had Part 1 in the title, hence why there's a "1" in the image. Also, the outro on the episode said they were going to play more. So....maybe later? I dunno.
2:55 "I don't tell everybody this.... But here's what you do... Your name, SSN, and your credit card number." - this guy, apparently. The meme before the meme.
"The only way to describe this game is fever dream." I have actually had a fever dream that was basically set in a Lego world. It was essentially Lego politics, and so wonderfully, painfully boring.
I'm so excited you guys are doing this too! I LOVED this video game when I was 7. It was this, the MechWarrior series and Humongous Entertainment games that I played on PC. My childhood...
Dan gets motion sickness a lot easier than most people I know, so no. I don't get motion sickness even on a boat in rough water, but yet I get it just by sitting in a car. I think it has a lot to do with psychological factors. Just watch their Katamari runs.
The nostalgia is real with this one. This game was one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES. It's just so quirky, cartoony, and a really fun game to play as a whole. :)
Sadly our Lego Island is missing for a very long time. :( I always wanted to play it at least once again. And seeing you two play this makes me very happy. Because now I can see this world again! :D
God. I remember watching this during a Christmas vacation to Florida in 7th grade. Anytime my family would get irritable or mean, I’d just go watch the Grumps, and eagerly await new episodes of this, even if there were only 3. Thanks, Barry and Ross.
***** Use dosbox. It emulates dos and slows your processor down with magic so that it doesn't calculate the game too quickly. You can play all kinda old games with it.
That nostalgia overload from just the opening. This game had it all. Also, brickster. Just that guy. Not only was he as cool as can be, but he took over the whole island. How many games have that, were you just help the bad guy and watch him slowly destroy the whole island.
I was searching around Twitter and I found the coolest thing. U can follow alf of Lego island on Twitter where they tweet about there life on the island. Peppers is @LEGOPepper_Roni and he follows like half the island. It's cool
Ahhh...memories I only ever beat the Brickster ONCE though spent a lot of time racing and jet skiing around the island Another awesome memory was getting in the helicopter and hugging the invisible wall at the edge of the ocean then finding the gap in it and flying into the endless white horizon...
I remember making the mistake of trying to mix megablocks and legos; I don't know why but I stuck a bunch in the bottom of a lego boat, to this day I can't pry them out.
Mama Papa Brickolini will not cook you no linguini Don't you know we specialize in one thing, that's the pizza pie If you think the family's ready for a plate of good spagetti Sorry if it makes you cry but all we got is pizza pie There's nothing wrong with enchiladas Some people like pickles and hot dogs But you never get to try them When you live on LEGO Island
I remember playing this game so much! I had a ton of Lego games for PC. I had Rock Raiders, Racers, Chess, Loco, Island, Island 2. This was my childhood of gaming!
This was literally the only game I had that was any fun at all from when i was like 6 until I was 10, and holy fuck its still in my opinion the best lego game ever made. Thank you Barry and Ross for playing it. So much nostalgia, I wanna cry
"Just the facts; One: this switch will move the shelves to display your pieces for building, click and drag. Two: the color choices are over here. Three: select this the copter will rotate. Four: when complete select the triangle sign. You're on asSIGNment." I can't tell you how many fucking times I've heard that.
Did Ross just pronounce Mosaic as Mo-see-ac? Jeez-o Ross, I know you have a bad track record when it comes to words and forming sounds with your mouth to say those words but dang.
I always loved going into the audio files in this game and using the speed up/slow down options to make them sound all messed up. Also the Gameboy Color version had one of the greatest lines of dialogue when a guard catches you, "You shouldn't be here but you are. Please, leave, for me."
bruce dell If ya look in their Steam Train promo, they mention playing computer games as well as Steam games. Of course it's called "Steam Train" but it's only a title.
Jebediah Oldenheimer I would play this again if I had a chance. Even watching the GG play this, I'm overwhelmed with nostalgia. It's just that, even back then, this game was so buggy and seems like all the older Lego games had compatibility issues. I had a ton of technical issue playing it as a kid. I can't imagine trying it on a modern system.
Oh my god this game was so much fun for my little kid self. This game got me into legos which got me to love building things. Because of legos i got into engineering. Please finish this game, and if I remember correctly when you play as Pepper, you can click on people's heads to change what they are wearing.
I really hope they play through all of this game. I remember this being the first game I ever owned for myself and I played so much of it, I freaking love the zany off the wall antics from it and I'm really looking forward to seeing Barry and Ross react to the shark scene.
That radio jingle reawoke the memories of this game I had locked within me! It always stuck with me, that jingle. I think I sang it at a friend as recently as a couple of years ago. Funny how things just come back to you unbidden sometimes. I played this a lot and still regard it pretty fondly! I wanna know what the little snappy rhyme the Brickster had when he was stealing stuff was - I can't remember how it went. "The brick of the brack..." or something! A whole spiel. I'm sure they'll get there and I'll hear it again, haha!
I love Danny with all my heart, he is an absolute sweetie pie and such an amazing guy, but damn it's really hard to beat Barry, especially when he's just full of glee.
!!!! CREATURES! OMG. That one was my favorite PC game *OF ALL TIME* growing up. Wasn't into the sequels, just the original one, but omfg. I actually have an emulator to run it on one of my modern laptops because I still have a guilty pleasure for that game.
The nostalgia... I FEEL IT. When I had this game, the computer was so inadequate, it ran like a slideshow. 1 frame per second, solid. Audio was all good, but moving around was a interesting challenge. Never was able to finish the game, the final chase was too difficult at that framerate.
You know, Lego Island 2 is a pretty rad game. I think it'd be a GREEEAAAAT game for Game Grumps... It actually is a fun game from what I remember from my childhood
I remember being a little kid and this was the first open world I ever saw. The fact I could explore this goofy ass world was mind blowing to my little child mind. This brought back so much nostalgia...
Lego. F'ing. Island. My childhoodometer just bounced off the rev limiter! I LOVED THIS GAME. I remember every single thing, including what's hidden on the east side of the island. Anybody remember the launch menu screen (remember when there were pre-game launch menus?) music was a hip-hop scratchfest of the word 'lego'? Infomaniac is crazy. And wow I just geeked out hard over a game from 1997. Just goes to show you how enduring the memories from a 'good' old game can be.
Oh my god I remember not being able to run this game on my computer when I was a kid because it was a toaster. Now, after all these years, I finally get to see it in action. Thank you, Steam Train ;_;7
On the subject of LEGO instructions, when I was a kid, I would always assemble the kit based on the instructions... and then, once I was done, I'd play with it for a little bit before customizing the shit out of it. So, the instructions don't kill creativity COMPLETELY. In fact, I was always grateful for the instructions- I was creative enough to come up with neat ideas, but unskilled enough to execute them poorly, so it was easier to customize a pre-existing train than to build a train from scratch.
There's actually an entire community out there based on building Lego's without any instructions, and coming up with designs of your own. Usually its referred to as MOC-ing, in which MOC stands for My Own Creation.
This was the first lego game? Honestly I'm kind of surprised. I was expecting it to be an older game than that. 5:55 Less than 24 hours from recording to release? I'm impressed considering you guys probably have a huge backlog of episodes from weeks and maybe even months ago.
I never got to play this as a kid... but, I *did* manage to play Lego Island 2, and I remember loving the hell out of that game.. Only had 4 3D games at the time: Lego Island 2, Donkey Kong 64, Rayman 2, and Lego Racers (this was my Mario Kart)
God I loved this game, it was the very first PC game I ever played. The second PC game I played was the sequel, I believe, Lego Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge. I had such an awesome time playing those games. I still have them lying around somewhere in a drawer in the living room.
Oh God.
As someone who never had a game console as a kid, I'd rent this from the library all the damn time and play it on my Windows 95 toaster computer.
Remember libraries?
Oh God, libraries...
I used to go to mine every week to rent VHS tapes..
Remember VHS tapes?
I used to get books from them. Remember books?
Wow, man, I used to use sticks of graphite to write stuff down. Remember writing stuff?
max corrice I would stroll on down to the Library of Alexandria and while away the hours studying papyrus scrolls with the teachings of Pythagoras, and reading fantastic tales about the gods...
Remember papyrus?
Remember them?! I used all of that stuff until like freaking 2008! Fun fact: The guy who did pepper's voice in this game also voiced Andy in toy story. His name is John Morris.
+Monfe YEW GAT A FRAND IN MI
+Monfe You got a brick in me~
+Mephiste Sulfurion That sounds sexual XD
+Kams174 I have a round bionicle piece in you.
Riley Docter And I have a head in you
Wait wtf did I just say o.O
Does anyone else remember "Lego Racers"? That game was the bomb.
Kinghaas YES. That was Mario Karr for those who didn’t own a Nintendo :P
Played it all the time as one of my few PC games as a kid.
Oh my GOD!!! This was one of the first games baby me played! I only have extremely vague recollections of delivering pizzas, cops eating donuts, the Brickster breaking out- I was so young there was no way I ever would've remember the game's name to look it up for nostalgia. It was a broken piece of shit but we all loved it. Still do.
"It's a piece of shit, but it's not a whole shit."- James Rolfe
Monketron there was a Debug code, to gltich up the game, it is fun. it was "ogel"
It works for me on windows 8.1

oh nevermind. I think I just always didn't click on it first and I dragged it. lol

Who still has amazing memories from this?
Got Malk
I never played Lego Island but I did play another game called Lego Creator made around the same time, I think.
Revisiting this gem in 2020, Lego Island was like my first video game ever.
so glad to see barry in like every episode, he's probably my fvorite grump/conductor
What is your profile pic from, it's killing me.
Zack OOSIWAEONWS it's a yugioh card

HOLY FUCK I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID, time to see Steam Train fail at it
Oh....wait, nevermind, not the same as the PSX game with the same name. ; _ ;
Omg I loved this to!!!!!!!!!
i completely forgot about this game until now, the memories.
Let's still watch Ross fail.
Not Barry, thoufh
gds2015 Yeah, that's what it seems like, I definitely remember the pizza delivery guy as the main character and the Brickster as the villain. Although I swear the voice acting was way better in the PSX game.
I do not care if Lego Island 2 is bad. It was my childhood. I loved it!
Same :D
i finished it in like a day
me too
I couldn't for the life-of-me ever figure out the fishing game, it took me YEARS until I realized that I had to be patient to catch Big Bertha, and that was only after I had managed to complete the other Lego Island Games multiple times over.

Wings of Vi: shortest steam train series (if you don't count the one-offs)
I agree!
I re-checked and the video is now appropriately named "Wings of Vi - SteamTrain" so even though we see a 1 on the thumbnail, it's not a series. Confusing much.
inb4 they upload another episode of wings of vi tomorrow so this comment would be moot
Supa i like your pic
Kuonluw When it was uploaded, it had Part 1 in the title, hence why there's a "1" in the image. Also, the outro on the episode said they were going to play more. So....maybe later? I dunno.
The excitement in Berry's voice in the end shows he's having a good time, i love it!
I don't think I ever played as anyone but Pepper. You wanted to be the cool kid in the 90s.
2:55
"I don't tell everybody this.... But here's what you do...
Your name, SSN, and your credit card number."
- this guy, apparently.
The meme before the meme.
"The only way to describe this game is fever dream." I have actually had a fever dream that was basically set in a Lego world. It was essentially Lego politics, and so wonderfully, painfully boring.
HAHAH, wow, major childhood memories here
for some reason lots of people are playing a bunch of old pc games i played as a kid XD
also, your sensitivity is wayyyyy up. that or it does not like the newer keyboards, it controlled just fine back then
What other people are playing older pc games?
ohhhhhh, darn, i was thinking about some other videos. they were not gameplay... thanks brain :l
Those are the classics
Hi I am Bill ding
"Hi! I'm Bill Ding!"
and im going to bed
i cant
Please play Lego Rock Raiders PLEASE!
A slimy slug is invading your base. A slimy slug is invading your base. A landslide has occurred. Those last levels were constant alarm levels.
Lego Chess BITCHES!!!!!!
YES! GOD YES! That game totally needs a modern remake, or a spiritual successor, or SOMETHING. I spent YEARS at that game.
I played a level of it, than I lost the CD Rom.
If they actually manage to finish the tutorial...
When you think about it, this game and the island and how everyone behaves makes you appreciate Lord Business' plan in the Lego Movie.
Its actually weird how much of this I remember playing as a kid
I'm the Pizza delivery dude! the dude with the food!
more degrees than a thermometer!
SupaPhly let's repeat what was said in the video and get likes!
more degres than a professor!
SupaPhly Your giving me more degrees than a thermometer.
Do you hold steaming hot pizza(s) in hand while you skate to deliver/?
Did I drop some acid without realizing?
Oh you wish
Like Barry, this was my childhood.
Oh man, this game was one of my favorites growing up. So classic! And this episode did not disappoint. Thanks for playing this, guys!
I'm so excited you guys are doing this too! I LOVED this video game when I was 7. It was this, the MechWarrior series and Humongous Entertainment games that I played on PC. My childhood...
Yeah the turning gives me motion sickness :( I'm sure Danny would feel the same
Its Arin that gets motion sick from first person games
Jackson Petryka Dan gets motion sickness from EVERYTHING.
Dan gets motion sickness a lot easier than most people I know, so no.
I don't get motion sickness even on a boat in rough water, but yet I get it just by sitting in a car. I think it has a lot to do with psychological factors. Just watch their Katamari runs.
Now now, remember what I told you.
Mine? If so, thanks. Drew it myself :)
Whoa, is the voice actor for Pepper, the same as the voice actor for Andy from Toy Story?
Yes
The nostalgia is real with this one. This game was one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES. It's just so quirky, cartoony, and a really fun game to play as a whole. :)

"Like Skyrim, but with legos."
-IGN
Did IGN really post that?
If they did...
Dear god
@@J4Y_R3D Noooo don't worry, it's just a joke! But the fact that you could believe really says alot about IGN!
I believed it because IGN sucks
OMG! I STILL HAVE THIS GAME ON HAND BUT MY COMPUTER IS TOO STRONG FOR IT! I loved playing this game all day when I was a kid. :D ;D
To strong? what! you put the disc in, then your pc breaks it in two then spits it out and begins to mercilessly stomps on it dead space style?
gosh father oh no it's just that it has to run in 16 bit color and my computer can't since it's Windows 7
***** Use dosbox. It emulates dos and slows your processor down with magic so that it doesn't calculate the game too quickly. You can play all kinda old games with it.
jaky3 yeah I know about Dosbox but I had problems with it especially viruses not to mention I believe it required 7-Zip
***** 7-Zip is a tool everyone should have.
My nostalgia is ready!
That nostalgia overload from just the opening. This game had it all.
Also, brickster. Just that guy. Not only was he as cool as can be, but he took over the whole island. How many games have that, were you just help the bad guy and watch him slowly destroy the whole island.
This game is one of my favorite games ever. So many hours and hours spent of my childhood just riding around the Island. SO MUCH NOSTALGIA
I was searching around Twitter and I found the coolest thing. U can follow alf of Lego island on Twitter where they tweet about there life on the island. Peppers is @LEGOPepper_Roni and he follows like half the island. It's cool
Half*
That is fucking bizarre. :D
Cam you guys do one of the franchised themed Lego games (Star Wars, Indy, Harry Potter?)
I got the biggest smile on my face when I saw this video in my sub box.
Ahhh...memories
I only ever beat the Brickster ONCE though
spent a lot of time racing and jet skiing around the island
Another awesome memory was getting in the helicopter and hugging the invisible wall at the edge of the ocean then finding the gap in it and flying into the endless white horizon...
You guys' are such beasts for doing this. LEGO ISLAND 4 LYYF!!!! Nostalgia pie.
I never got to have Legos as a kid. All I had were the bullshit Megablocks, y'know the ones you couldn'r choke on.
or wouldnt feel immense amounts of pain whenever you accidentally stepped on it
Irene S Oh no, Megablocks still hurt like fuck when you stepped on them. Those giant cylinders were no joke.
Im pretty sure that constitutes child abuse in most countries. Even if they were safer.
I remember making the mistake of trying to mix megablocks and legos; I don't know why but I stuck a bunch in the bottom of a lego boat, to this day I can't pry them out.
***** right lol I never got them either
this is no longer on steam. how did you acquire it? this video brought me to tears because i remember playing it when i was 5.
+Alpheon they should released it on steam
With better graphics
With better graphics
+War Mach and chee That would ruin the experience honestly.
I had this game! *screams incoherently* The dog got a hold of it and ruined it when I was seven. :(
*****
NEVER. It's been fourteen years. FOURTEEN.

When you live on LEGO Island
I remember playing this game so much! I had a ton of Lego games for PC. I had Rock Raiders, Racers, Chess, Loco, Island, Island 2. This was my childhood of gaming!

YEEEEE~ I remember this!!!
I always loved going into the audio files in this game and using the speed up/slow down options to make them sound all messed up. Also the Gameboy Color version had one of the greatest lines of dialogue when a guard catches you, "You shouldn't be here but you are. Please, leave, for me."
This is my entire childhood. I thought this game was a masterpiece when I was younger. So nuts.
Wait...you can get THE Lego Island on Steam?
They play the majority of their games on PC.
bruce dell If ya look in their Steam Train promo, they mention playing computer games as well as Steam games.
Of course it's called "Steam Train" but it's only a title.
Jebediah Oldenheimer

It's not available on Steam or GOG, so if you want it you'll need to buy the CD second hand or find a torrent.
***** you still use it? why not kickass torrents? 100x better
Ya should've played Lego Island 2. It's much better.
Yeah. Fuck the medieval level.
but the voice acting was painfully bad...
I thought this would be so much better considering how fun Lego Island 2 was.... not to mention, It had a story.
Alan The Action Guy I never played that one,Lego Island Xtream Stunts was good though!
It follows pepper as he tries to take down the brickster. it actually has decent controls and plays from 3rd person.
This is just a minecraft ripoff
Eh sorry to burst your bubble but this is older than minecraft

Cyberbrickmaster1986 Best game. Best game tenouttaten.
MypDyp It's also the most difficult to run on pretty much any computer. Luckily there's always the Playstation 2 version
Oh man, late 90's lego vidja games. Such glorious times.
I just had flashbacks to my childhood. All day I would anticipate the time when I could go home and play Lego Island.
one of my all time favorites
Nostalgia attack!! Me and my brother used to play this game all the time on our shitty Windows 95 machine! Such a classic.
I listened to several of these music tracks the other day and genuinely cried for a half hour of nostalgia.
Oh God, there is so much nostalgia here. Everything is coming back to me.
Omg, this game was my childhood. I'm so glad you guys are playing this!
Oh the nostalgia. I remember this buggy bastard like it was only a few years ago, vaguely and with a lot of haze.
Barry was adorable in this episode. He was so giddy with joy.
7:18 hey, if you get off while moving, the vehicle will move on its own! XD
Oh nostalgia...RIGHT IN THE FEELS!! My sister and I played this all the time.
I remember being a little kid and this was the first open world I ever saw. The fact I could explore this goofy ass world was mind blowing to my little child mind. This brought back so much nostalgia...
Nice to see that someone else grew up with this game.
The nostalgia's hitting me hard with this one. This was my favorite game! I remember the island being so much bigger!
Lego. F'ing.
"This was my childhood" I love you so much more for sharing this, Barry ♥
I'm beyond stoked this is being played. Holy shit, blast from the past.
Lego Island. Oh my gosh thank you so much for playing this.
This is totally my childhood right now. I loved this game so much.
This episode made me happy, Ross and Barry episodes are always fantastic!
'Smooth Jazz emanates from here' smooth jazz emanates from everywhere in that game xD
That intro is just instant massive nostalgia.
And now i want to play Lego Racers.
God I loved this game, it was the very first PC game I ever played. The second PC game I played was the sequel, I believe, Lego Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge. I had such an awesome time playing those games. I still have them lying around somewhere in a drawer in the living room.
Man, this is my childhood right here. I loved this game!
I'm so glad to see so many other people getting flashbacks from this
