It’s amazing to me that Walther isn’t more popular in the US than they are. Really outstanding guns. I love my PPS M2, it’s my best shooting single stack 9mm.
Agree. My PPS M1 is a freakin' tack driver. Groups about as tight as just about any pistol I own. And the trigger... isn't even very good, to be honest. It's just...... accurate.
@@HipsterTactical The trigger is essentially a Glock trigger and benefits from the "$0.25 Glock trigger job". You can polish the trigger bar and sear mating surface for a smoother pull.
Walther pps, is my edc, have run about 1200 + rounds through it without a hiccup, very accurate, compares to my g17,have shot it alonside a g43, I prefer the pps hands down.....great carry gun. Amazing that it doesn't get more recognition.....if you are thinking about getting one, go for it....you will be glad you did.....
Been carrying the PPS 9mm for the past 4 years, excellent CCW. I think this is the Glock that out does Glock. It does come with a plastic guide rod, switch it out to steel, I carry it with the 8 round mag, and a hogue grip. Love it.
No it's really not. The P99 had a very unique fully cocked striker system. This is a Glock knockoff trigger. Still very well done, but it's not a mini P99. The Canik MC9 is actually closer to that idea than this, sadly. I've been begging Walther to do a single stack version of the PPQ/P99/PDP for over 9 years and they don't care what their customers want.
Definitely ahead of its time. I love the German paddle mag release. It this day of XDM 3.3, Shield and Glock 43, is is easy to forget this gun and been around a lot longer, people just do not know about it for some reason. It is a great gun.
Bought one of these in 40 S&W used with no box for, are you ready, $200. Took it to the range and oh my what a shooter. I added a Talon grip and an Arachnigrip Slide Spider and it really added to it. Bought a couple extra magazines which made me sit back, Walther is VERY proud of these magazines. A Concealment Express IWB kydex holster and it's set perfect. You don't even know you are carrying it.
I had this pistol two years ago and always regretted selling it. It was one of the most accurate handguns I had ever shot. I was lucky enough to go to my local gun shop on Friday and they had a like-new one under the glass for $299. I bought it of course and can't wait to start carrying it again in my Kusiak Leather Old Fashioned holster I order this weekend. Thanks for all the great videos! You are one of the best content makers out there...
The PPS is my EDC and the biggest reason why I'll never need to consider the Glock 43. I also run a Handall Jr. on mine which adds just a little palm swell and insures the backstrap will always be secure.
Scott Novak I've had an xds9 since they first came out.. they are a bit on the heavy side but I think that helps with the recoil in these small framed guns (24oz).. mine has yet to malfunction after at least 1500rnds, and is tack driver accurate... it doesn't always lock back, but I have big hands and tend to ride the release on it.. if your stuck on these two I think your splitting hairs.. they are both great guns and you will be happy with either..
PistolWhip Agreed. I Have the XDs and definitely would like to get a PPS. The trigger on my XDs broke in around 300 rounds and has turned into a tack driving fun shooting little 9mm. Like the trigger better than the one on my girlfriends XDm. Of course I will check out the G43, but so far the XDs runs better for me than a CM9, a S&W Shield and a Glock 26 did.

I pick up my PPS .40 used back in Jan for $350.00 out the door , it was a pure gamble I got it for the low price but the pistol started to grow on me and now I love it . The PPS has the best chamber support I've ever seen on a factory barrel and better then a lot of after market barrels that are on the market and it has standard rifling 👍Gotta like that
I don't know why people says the PPS looks ugly. I say it looks futuristic and really cool. Plus you can stick a light on it, unlike most sub compacts!
I just got a PPS 9mm M1. It is fantastic. The trigger breaks very nicely right out of the box, but after reading up on it, I took the striker out of the slide and polished key points where it rides in the plastic guide so that it would deliver a smoother pull (I didn't mess with the disconnect other than to note that it didn't have any imperfections). The trigger is *extremely* smooth now, with no grit whatsoever. The reset is positive with an audible click after about 1/8th inch of travel. It is not a PPQ trigger by any means, but for a polymer frame CCW, it might be perfect. I doubt if under stress anyone notices how 'crisp' their trigger break is, but the fact that it is predictable and distinct, with a relatively short reset could mean that the efficacy and accuracy of the first and following shots stand a better chance of being on point. I still need to put several hundred rounds through this pistol, but I am looking forward to it, and I think that barring any unforeseen problems, this will be my new carry gun for a long time to come.
I started out with a Glock 43, I know this will be blasphemy to some, but I hated it. So I wound up trading it for the PPS and I love it. The paddle release takes a bit to get used to, but the feel and accuracy I feel is better than the Shield that my wife carries

I have one-- I really like it. Ultra-reliable. It's way under-rated. You can buy mags directly from Walther. I haven't had problems finding accessories.
Best CC pistol when wearing a suit, Period! At 5'8 160lbs I was looking for a carry pistol that wouldn't print wearing a suit. I looked at the the Shield, Solo, XDS and the PPS. Being a left hand shooter the PPS really appealed to me but it just felt too blocky. I bought the Solo for all the wrong reasons. On the range I continued to have failures. Sent the pistol to Kimber twice and no longer trust this pistol. Back to the gun store and out the door with XDS in hand. While it too is a bit blocky, it didn't seen as bad as the PPS. On the range a good shooter, accurate and the trigger is good, but I just really wasn't in love with it. Then I heard about the HK P2000sk, perfect for the left hand shooter. Same size as the PPS except for the width. I picked up the light LEM variant. On the range it's an excellent shooter, the trigger is very good. I carried it for a year and at times coworkers would point out that I was printing. Back to the gun store, thousands of dollars later I now carry the best CC pistol for my size and dress. On the range it's accurate and the trigger is very good. I carry at the two o'clock position and cross draw. If I'm out and wearing bulky clothing I'll carry my VP9 on my left and my PPS at two o'clock. So take a tip and save yourself time and money. If your slim built and wear a suit and tie there is no better package then the PPS. Sootch, love your reviews and more importantly I trust you. Did you have to wait this long to review the PPS. I could have saved a lot of time and dollars, lol
+Michaellattanzio, Being left handed presents challenges when shopping for holsters. I wanted leather for this pistol unfortunately Galco does not make this holster in a left hand version. I remembered Hickok45 talking about Don Hume holsters and that he uses them and liked them. They make it in LH so I ordered one from them. Great fit for the pistol and hugs the body very well, however the quality is not up to Galco standards. The finish is poor, almost like that of a vintage leather jacket. I'm okay with that. The inside of the holster is quite rough, almost sandpaper feeling. I worked a lot of leather conditioner on the inside and improved it. I just ordered a kydex holster from MultiHolster. I have other holsters from them, they produce a quality product. Made to order.
I have 600 rounds through mine so far with no cleaning. The only issues have been with the slide not locking when the last round has been fired and that issue is with me. The gun is highly accurate and is a great choice for concealed carry.
sootch, like your videos a lot. I look to see if you've done a video on any pistol I'm interested in before looking at others. I like a man who is not afraid to show his bloopers! And I also love my PPS. Couldn't agree more with your take on the Walther. I often wondered why you weren't reviewing the PPS. This pistol is way underrated, but more people are learning about it. I don't know why Walther doesn't promote this pistol more. It's a keeper for sure.
Hands down my most comfortable CC. I actually traded my PPS .40 for a P99 because it was too snappy for me. Later regretted it and after issues with my Walther CCP, traded that in for another PPS 9. I went right to the range, and It was a moment of Zen!
Excellent review. I just uploaded my own PPS 9mm video recently. The accuracy is excellent, even with one hand, while holding my phone with the other. One thing I will say, is that my recent, 2nd PPS had major feeding issues, on every 2nd, and 3rd round. The ammo would get stuck, and it required significant amount of force to eject it. This remained until 200rds or so, and it has been reliable since. Some say the feedramp may need polishing, or to be worn in a bit. My first one code BB did not need such break in, as it was running perfect out of the box from day one. But one thing is certain. The PPS is my favorite, most accurate, small carry pistol, and I wouldn't trade one for a Glock 43. I paid $450 for mine brand new shipped.
popojoeexplode don’t get it twisted, glock makes simple quality guns you know are gonna go bang, but this ain’t the 80s anymore, there’s so many options that if it wasn’t for bandwagoners glock would have had to actually change shit up by now
"you can realy use this as a duty pistol" so funny... the PPS stands for Polizei Pistole Schmal - Police Pistol Slim... so it is designed for Police Duty :D
Great review. I have a PPS too, in a 40 S&W. I went with the 40 because demand for the PPS/9mm in both variants is stripping supply in my area and could not locate one in 9MM, so I settled on the 40. I like this model over the newer because the location of the magazine latch would allow shooter to use their other hand should the dominant hand/arm became incapacitated for what ever reason(example-I slipped on ice a couple of winters ago and injured one of my arms and was in therapy during the following summer and still have minor issues with it) and the the adjustable back-straps are good for allowing your other half's hands to adjust to fit as well. I like the Hornady Critical Defense 165gr for CC or comparable reloads with that same bullet.
It is a great pistol. I ended up putting a Hogue Hand-all Jr. grip sleeve on it to improve the grip feel. Otherwise it's a perfect carry pistol, and damn accurate. I polished the trigger parts also and it improved the smoothness quite a bit.
I had one of these with factory night sights and an extra mag. One of my regrets in selling it. I miss it mostly because not only did it shoot great it felt so good in the hand.
I have small to medium sized hands and prefer the larger backstrap as well. The larger hump against the wedge of your hand facilitates keeping a decent grip while using your trigger finger to hit the mag release. Same story with the P22.
Walter pistols have excellent trigger, excellent ergonomics, excellent quality and fair price. To be honest in last 10 years H&K and SIG are starting to trail behind Walter..big time. Only way to compete with Walter is to drop price because in his price range it has no real competition at the moment. I love CZ and SIG Sauer pistols personally but personal predisposition aside Walter does make the best standard carry pistols on the market. And you sootch00 are making top reviews. I could not believe it was almost 22 minutes long video, it felt like 5 minutes (that by it self shows how good review was).
I've got about 600 rounds through my PPS 9mm--not a single issue, with either factory or reloaded ammo. I wasn't a fan of the "cheese grater" backstrap so I took a dremel tool to it and shaved down the ridges. Much more comfortable in my hand now. Love this pistol.
At one of the defensive pistol classes I took about 3 years ago, there was a guy running a PPS. Two of his magazines broke apart when they hit the cement floor while we were practicing emergency/speed reloads. Maybe this problem has been fixed or he got a bad batch of mags, but it did not inspire much confidence to anyone who watched these mags come flying apart.
LOVE my PPS. I carry it w/ the 6 round mag and a 7 round in my cargo pocket. I'd like to try the Glock 42/43 but in Massachusetts that isn't happening anytime soon. I put my thumb on the trigger indicator when re-holstering. No need to look down that way. You can also order just the base plate and change the mag capacity, all the mags share the same spring and metal housing, only the base plate is different.
I just picked up a used one in very good condition (one magazine) for $250 out the door at a local pawn shop. I can't wait to try it out. I'm not sure of the year but it has a BA date code. Great review by the way!
Sootch... Of all of the You-Tube Video reviewers Sir, YOURS ARE THE BEST! I will watch one of yours even if I don't have an interest in the firearm ';-) Thanks, Mike...
Thx. Man, I feel old since I also like the Walther PPK because of James Bond. I really tried to like the Glock 26 and of course I didn't like it. I might try to find if some shooting range has the PPS. But I may just order it just because I've found the PPQ to be excellent.
Sootch I picked one up in 9mm about 2 months ago got the Trijicon yellow rear and green front sight love this gun! I'm using the StealthgearUSA AIWB holsters and it is one of the best pistols I've ever had PS Great review Al
Best of the single-stacks!! "Perfectly-imperfect"! Looking forward to the CCP review, loving mine..early ones had some striker channel milling issues. Feels amazing, takedown tool necessity might kill it in the market tho..
Ive got one of these and love it... Mine came with all three mags, 6, 7, and 8 rds. The 8 rd mag does not like to lock the slide open as the mag spring is weaker due to the plus two baseplate.
If possible, please consider doing a comparison between the Walther PPS Classic (M1) to the Walther PPS M2. I believe subscribers would be interested in your shooting, functional, and ergonomic evaluation of both pistols. Your review of the PPS Classic is very informative.
This gun was really ahead of it's time and underrated. I think the price may have prevented it from being more popular (they were $100 more before the Shield came out). I know that is the only reason I didn't buy one. I ended up with a shield, which I think has better ergonomics, but I think the Walther is a little nicer pistol in terms of fit and finish and I would have been perfectly happy with it too.
Great review sootch00. I carry HK's but I've been thinking about carrying a slim "single stack" 9mm as my EDC. Looking for something lefty friendly like the HK's and came across your video. I'm really digging this Walther PPS.
Thank you for the video. You do a great job. And thank you in advance for doing a video on th ccp. I have been waiting for someone in my subscribe list to do a video on the ccp.
Great review as usual, tho' I wish that you'd expanded on the rail usage...I saw a light on the table. Finding a short light that fits these short rails can be a challenge.
i know this isn't EXACTLY made as a compact ccw gun but I'd like to see it go to a push button mag release to get that lever out of the way for some relief cut up into the trigger guard for a better grip with the shorter mags
Hey Sootch! See if you can get your hands on a Walther p99c. The compact p99 is basically like having a Glock 26 with a PPQ reset trigger that happens to be DA/SA for good measure. Its been my EDC for months now.
I had a first edition PPS 9mm probably should have kept it. It was marked first edition on the slide at least never seen another like it the frame was a grey and it almost looked kinda like a fingerprint pattern. I got it from a friend that needed money and then a few months later he wanted it back so I sold it back for what he gave it to me for didn't even shoot the thing while I had it but I gave $400 and it came with 4 mags, couple boxes of Hornady TAP, and Blazer Brass, holster, and some junk light/laser UTG whatever it was. The holster was some junk nylon holster too I would never consider using but whatever $400 was a good deal with those mags. This was probably 6 years ago.
The PPS. Everything you need and want in an EDC, and nothing that is excessive or in the way. I've got a .40 and a 9mm, both are ones to ride the river with, as the saying goes. :) Good review...looking forward to your take on the CCP, also..
Holy crap, dude. I just did a "1st Hundred" on this gun and made so many of the exact same comments as you that I'm surprised your lawyer hasn't contacted me! But seriously, I guess we must both the speaking the truth then. I noticed that you also have considerable brass buildup on the center slide rail, as if from digging into the "next round down" when cycling. Ever give you any problems?
Hi Don, Thanks for this gun review! After seeing this review video, it occurred to me that this Walther PPS would probably be even more comparable to a Smith & Wesson Shield 9 mm given the various magazine capacity options available for it. Perhaps, you could do a comparison video between those two models next. Given the popularity of the S&W Shield 9 mm in the USA, it seems like many people would be interested to watch it since we value your opinions and trust you. Thanks again, Todd D.
Thank you for the video. Yep, solid gun. Almost bought one but couldn't get over the mag release, just doesn't work for me. It is really nice to shoot with gloves on, give it credit there.
tank you so much! i live in a country were normal people cant have kill weapons so i do not know how to use them.... i find out that early in the morning many police oficers riding by train to the big city near of my town and they are verry sleepy so i can easy steal a gun they have when they are old p6 but most of them p30 and because of your proessional videos i know how the guns work and im not in the situation having a gun without knowing to fire it! im glad that there are countrys who let people deside how they kill or not with having weapons and its funny how they trick thze law out by "we must protect" speaking hope the best for you and make much ,more vids aspecialy about how to shot a gun and remove the savety trigger if it is put on or how to see if it is put on or off its hard to see for a 1 time weapon user
I have nothing against people that like polymer pistols, but I don't think I'll ever find one that I like more than my full steel ones. This looks like a great handgun and I'd love to shoot one, but there's just something about polymer that I can't get over.
+Aneesh S , I use to be old school too...if it wasn't steel it's a cheap ole gun that'll break! but technology especially in the gun industry has come such a long way! Just like a car you take care of it even though its not the steel frames they use to be, it'll run like smooth silk until you die. Same goes with these polymer pistols that are coming out. hell i remember when 3 inch barrels on pistols were no goes because they would jam and Fail to feed and all sorts of issues...but the new spring system and technology has really improved. I now own 3 polymer pistols with steel slides. I'd trust them with my life...and I do because I cc with them. granted I still have my loves of the 1911 kimber and springfield. :)
I like Nutinfancy too, I have bought a couple guns based on his reviews. That being said he presents himself as the end all be all. That to me personally is a bad gut feeling. I use my gear some with more recognizable names as Buck, and no name backpacks but with the proper materials. Use what works for you and research from many sources including reading.
PPS is my carry, size and weight is perfect. Also have the PPQ M1, much nicer, but dbl stack heavy and size. Walther fan boy, quality and reliability count.
This video made me want to take the PPS out after two years of not firing it. It had been back to the factory twice for issues. Today I put 2 magazines through it and it has had a catastrophic failure. It will not return into battery. I was barely able to field strip it and now it won't even go back together. I just contacted Walther via email to send it back for a 3rd trip. Sheesh I wish this expensive gun would work half as good as my Shield 9mm.
Great review! I'm sure the PPS is great. I have four Walthers and my P99 compact is my favorite. My Shield has just performed too well for me to add a PPS.

Out of a rotation of 4 concealed carry pistols, the PPS is my fave! Extremely accurate & slim making carry very easy & comfortable.

These pistols are exceptional. All the hype over single stack 9mm lately and the PPS was available for years. Looking forward to shooting the M2.
I don't know why people says the PPS looks ugly. I say it looks futuristic and really cool. Plus you can stick a light on it, unlike most sub compacts!
It looks great with an 8 round magazine
I just got a PPS 9mm M1. It is fantastic. I've had and carried my PPS v1 for over 10 years. Love it
I just returned to the M1 after having an M2 for a few years. The M1 is superior.
Another great review Sootch, PPS is now on my wish list.

What kind of holster?
Black Bullitt Have a look at StealthgearUSA holsters I have the AIWB for my PPS very happy with it.
My Shield is my best suit gun. I don't have a PPS but I do have a Walther P99c that is excellent and can also do suits but is a bit thicker.
I have 600 rounds through mine so far with no cleaning. The only issues have been with the slide not locking when the last round has been fired and that issue is with me. The gun is highly accurate and is a great choice for concealed carry.
Great review, Thank you. Picked up one for Christmas as my new carry. Feels great and fits well. Little to no printing. Solid and accurate.
Great vid Sootch. This is my primary carry piece. Just put some talon grips on it. So comfortable to shoot.
Also, the 40 S&W slide doesn't have that cutout at the front.
I like the paddle mag release. I use my middle finger as I can maintain a nice high grip. Great review as usual Sootch!
sootch, like your videos a lot.
I have been watching you on RUclips for a number of years !!!
I paid $450 for mine brand new shipped.
iv been saying it on my channel, the PPS is the best single stack 9mm on the market! Glock 43? wooptie fing doo another glock.....
popojoeexplode don’t get it twisted, glock makes simple quality guns you know are gonna go bang, but this ain’t the 80s anymore, there’s so many options that if it wasn’t for bandwagoners glock would have had to actually change shit up by now
I want to add a PPS and a PPQ 5" next. Great video. Thanks.
The removable back strap is also a de-cocker. You can de-cock the striker when field stripping the slide instead of pulling the trigger.
I Really like the magazine release. Good review!!!
Very excellent video. Thanks for this. You answered all the questions I had. I bought a walther p22 pistol and really like the walther products
Went into a gun store just to look around. Walked out with a grey cerakote pps. Love me a German paddle release
Just bought one for $379 OTD, only thing that bothered me is I didn't have the cash for two!
I put a Hogue Hand-all Jr. sleeve on mine. Helps a lot.
just to let you know my son CCW this pistol, never had a jam, and works great. It has now been discontinued by Walther. But a great gun.
Great video, thank you. I've been debating between the M&P Shield and the PPS. This has been very helpful.
I put Big Dot sights on mine. EZ to install. Love the combo.
outstanding review!! thank you!
A lot of people say the PPS caries like a sub-compact but shoots like a full size!?
LOVE my PPS. I carry it w/ the 6 round mag and a 7 round in my cargo pocket. I'd like to try the Glock 42/43 but in Massachusetts that isn't happening anytime soon.
I put my thumb on the trigger indicator when re-holstering. No need to look down that way. You can also order just the base plate and change the mag capacity, all the mags share the same spring and metal housing, only the base plate is different.
aerosaaber I also put my thumb on the cocking indicator when holstering.
I just picked up a used one in very good condition (one magazine) for $250 out the door at a local pawn shop. I can't wait to try it out. I'm not sure of the year but it has a BA date code. Great review by the way!
BA is 2010. How did you like it? I just bought a new old stock 2012 date code. Love it.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
How much was it ?
Way nicer gun than the 43. More accurate and holds 9. Has some nice features too. I have both the PPS and the G43. Love them both.
Great video Sootch. Have you looked at the Steyr M9 A1? Maybe another overlooked modern striker fired pistol.
I really liked the outtakes on this one haha.
Sootch... Of all of the You-Tube Video reviewers Sir, YOURS ARE THE BEST!
I will watch one of yours even if I don't have an interest in the firearm ';-)
Thanks,
Mike...
really like the looks of this gun and the pk380 as well....
I'm using the StealthgearUSA AIWB holsters and it is one of the best pistols I've ever had
PS Great review
Al
the ruger sr9c has the same cocking indication deal. it also protrudes from the frame when pulling the trigger rearward during firing.
A grip sleeve makes a world of difference with the PPS m1.
So close to picking up the PPS, but went with the Sig P320sc instead. Both are sweet!
That's the difference between Walther and Umarex pistols. Hope to see the new PPQ 45 on your channel this fall!
Hey Sootch! See if you can get your hands on a Walther p99c. The compact p99 is basically like having a Glock 26 with a PPQ reset trigger that happens to be DA/SA for good measure. Its been my EDC for months now.
The Lakeline stainless recoil spring is awesome as an upgrade for the PPS.
What does it do? Lessen recoil?
Great in 9mm ,but even better CCW in 40 s&w. For a small carry 9 I like the CCP. Always a nice review brother.
The PPS. Everything you need and want in an EDC, and nothing that is excessive or in the way.
I've got a .40 and a 9mm, both are ones to ride the river with, as the saying goes. :)
Good review...looking forward to your take on the CCP, also..
The PPS looks like 2021, whereas the Glock is 1991, just that the little refinements really add up.
I'm carrying my PPS today.
Bu far my favorite cc pistol
Hi Don, Thanks for this gun review! After seeing this review video, it occurred to me that this Walther PPS would probably be even more comparable to a Smith & Wesson Shield 9 mm given the various magazine capacity options available for it. Perhaps, you could do a comparison video between those two models next. Given the popularity of the S&W Shield 9 mm in the USA, it seems like many people would be interested to watch it since we value your opinions and trust you. Thanks again, Todd D.
The PPS is a higher quality gun. Full stop.
Me too.
I'm a big fan of Nutinfancy, but that being said I think Sootch does far better review videos.
I've been a Walther fan because of the James Bond movies. But I don't have the money to buy one. Really liked the P99 from Tomorrow Never Dies.
Great review. Shot it after seeing Nutfancy's review for it. The gun is great but too expensive for my budget.
That's a bummer. I've never heard of any issues with this gun. It's basically a Glock with a crazy safety.
Great review! I'm sure the PPS is great. I have four Walthers and my P99 compact is my favorite. My Shield has just performed too well for me to add a PPS.
