  • People with gait disorders may no longer be confined to wheelchairs thanks to an innovative wearable robot called HAL. A version of this robot can also give ordinary people a kind of "super strength" - it reduces the stress on the person's back so they can lift weights a lot more times than they normally would in safety. These new types of wearable robots have been dubbed “the first cyborg”. But what are the challenges that innovators face when they go into uncharted territory like Cyberdyne did here? They needed guides to keep their developments on track, and that's where ISO came in. Find out how, in this fascinating story about human creativity and ingenuity. (EN, ES, FR, DA subtitles)
NOTE: HAL for Medical Use Lower Limb Type (a device which improves and regenerates the physical function of patients with gait disorders) is a medical device conforming to ISO 13485 (quality of medical devices) and ISO 14971 (risk management for medical devices). ISO 13482 for personal care robots applies to other non-Medical types of HAL such as HAL for Care/Labor Support Lumbar Type (a device which reduces the risk of back injury by reducing the stress applied to the lumbar part upon lifting up weights). Great video! Thank you for posting. I have never seen before how and where the sensors are attached on the back, I had just heard of it. - Bobby
