Absolutely, but just remember that the tone of the canvas will be much darker. And depending on the colors used you may get a shade different than what you see in Bill's painting. All a black canvas is, is exactly that, a black canvas.. There are no rules as to what you can paint on any canvas, just a reminder of the tone and shade you might get from using it.. Hopefully this helps you out, im sure by now(9 months later..) youve already found an answer to ur question but regardless, in case you didnt here are my 2 cents! Cheers!
