    Griffith Park is a popular hiking destination in Los Angeles but few people know that in the middle of it all there's an Abandoned Pool.
    The Pool was originally build in the 1920s for a girls camp, in the 1950s the camp was destroyed by a fire, not the pool however. A new boys camp was built lower on the hill, a girls camp as well but further west.
    Since the pool wasn't destroyed by the fire it was still used by the new camp into the 1980s
    Im glad i took the day off to go on a hike with my childhood friend and be out in nature, my happy place. As I was walking around the pool, covered in graffiti, my friend sitting on the edge of the pool with her feet dangling, i wondered how cool it would have been to have spent some summers here with her and my other childhood friends for a summer camp dipping our feet in the cool water, jumping off the diving board, learning about the parks wildlife, playing tag and doing things children do. It was still pretty nice view overlooking the city from a different POV, my hometown actually, Glendale, and how even though I've been long and far gone a force always brings me back, today was our curiosity of exploring more than just your more well known hikes in Griffith. I'm just reminiscing and blabbing now, happy hiking, see u in the trails!

    Thank you for posting this! We went yesterday and your directions were spot on. The trail to the pool by tank #113 was a bit difficult do to the overgrown vegetation. Overall, it was it good hike! if anyone is planning on doing this hike, bring some bug spray. Thanks again!

    I really enjoyed this video--seeing trails I used to hike on in the late 1980's looking similar today. I am researching the social history of swimming pools so of course I am really curious to know why this pool has become abandoned. Was it previously used by the children's overnight camps? Thanks for posting it.

      The pool was built in the 1920s for a girls camp, unfortunately in the 1950s the camp was destroyed by a fire, not the pool however. They rebuild the camps and the pool was used into the 1980s. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to maintain it.

    I have hiked to this pool so many times and each time I chicken out because of the steepness lol I know I can do it tho if you go through the boys camp below it's trespassing but it's the easy way

    Awesome video thanks for sharing however since there is an abandoned pool there that kind of tells me that it was once open to the public so there has to be another route beside all that hiking wouldn't you agree?

    • @hikeronatrail
      @hikeronatrail  Год назад +1

      There is, if you go up Camp Rd. It's the shortest route, unfortunately it's restricted entry

    Why didn't you go straight into the boys camp(camp rd.). Did the sign say keep out? I think at this time it is open.
    Oh yeah, 3:30 the scarecrow, you are on course.
    Bingo 4:07, look for the steel pipe couplings. Just follow the trail you can't get lost.
    There are a few "false" trails before this even though you can see the pool on the right it's very easy to get into a bunch of deep brush.
    Cool drone shot at the end. Did you check out the little creepy pool house next to the pool?
    Also, you can just find your way down and leave through the boys camp area and back to the golf course parking.
    Good job finding.

      Yes Camp road was closed, no trespassing, or at least when I went. Pretty convenient if it is open now. I didn't check out the little house next to the pool, or is it above it? Going to have to go back to check out. Taking my drone was a must, especially since it overlooks my hometown. See u in the trails 🙌

    I noticed on the map that camp road leads to the pool. Is that road closed off to the public?

      How long did it take minutes wise you think? About an hour and back to get there?

    • @hikeronatrail
      @hikeronatrail  2 года назад

      @@1man1vision It was a bit longer than an hour, we initially took a wrong trail down before reaching Tank 113 so had to back track. About an hour and a half to 2 hours total

    Gawwwd that annoying and loud background music. Almost makes it unwatchable, having to wait for the dialogue then turning volume up again. That said, many RUclips clips do this without realizing it’s negative impact.
