Professor snape killing it🔥🔥😎✌
ALWAYS
"Obbbbb-viously."
He's actually a professor as well 😁
😂😂😂😂
He is Prof Snape!👍👌🥁
Mike Mangini is a God tier drummer. Saw him with DT 2 months ago in my hometown and I was absolutely astonished. He never dissapoints and most importantly gives it his 100% every. single. gig. Hats off to you mr. Mangini!
Well said. I love listening to Mike play.
Agreed - I found that when I saw him live on the D/T tour, I fully appreciated him. It was then that I realized how much of a powerhouse he is, and I don't think it's possible for the man to make a mistake
The guy has such deep knowledge about microphones! Mic Mangini
From patriot missle programer to microphone expert.
I was lucky enough to see him live on the Waiting For The Punchline tour he did with Extreme, around ‘95. Phenomenal drummer!
Me to man same tour but in Toronto and yes he is a MONSTER!
Same here. Saw them in Hammersmith, London from the front row on that your. I called him the drum equivalent of Nuno on guitar . The rhythmic syncopations were just unreal 😊
@@craigfarleymusician8481 yeah it’s a real shame the band broke up after that tour - would love to have heard a full album with Mike and Nuno. I think they would’ve come up with some great material.
@@guitardave definitely Dave, couldn’t agree more with that 😊
That's a LOT of prog rock talent in one room. Two of the best to ever do it.
Mike deserves all the credit in the world. He’s a true example of professionalism and just being an all round great guy.
Best drum sound that Mike ever had :)
Talk about your own sound, No other drummer on the planet sounds like Mike! Always inspiring!
You’re right. Mike Portnoy was the best. 😜 Just kidding. Mangini is great!! Had to do it. 😆
Yes, but you can say the same for "thousands" of other drummers
These 2 Italian dudes happen to among my most-favorite drummers of all time!
Very organic sound, simply perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike Mangini truly Master! ❤
So happy I got to meet him twice while he was touring with Dream Theater (2016 and 2017)
Gave me some awesome advice and tips on approaching the drums that I'll never forget and use as much as possible
love ya mike!!!!!!!!
you make my ears sing to my brain and make me happy !!
Don't know why so many dislike Mike (probably jealousy) he's so techicnal, fabulous drummer!
A Mike Mangini video from Sweetwater? A surprise, I'm sure, but a welcome one!
This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!
We will not survive this...
Wipe them out. All of them.
Im so lost
@@ShatteredWindowpane Then you are lost!
Mike and Nic together! What gentlemanly mastery
Oh dang I love him he’s adorable yet ferocious witty and perfect!!!!
Sheesh that snare sound 🤯
I like Mike. He seems like a real genuine dude. Why he got so far in his life. Not always about how you well you play. It's also how you come off as a person. He's also a monster player so that helps.
Wow always evolving! Something different on this, amazing!…
what a drummer he is!!
Mike seems like a genuinely cool guy.
Mike is truly god tier and can play anything but it's really nice seeing him play the kit he wants to play instead of whatever the DT show demands
Two of my favorites!
I saw DT when Mike Mangini first started playing with them - It was at Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, MI (when Trivium was opening for them). I remember my face feeling numb as I watched in disbelief of how amazing the experience was.
I can hear the resonance of the kick on my cell phone speaker. Pretty crazy tbh.
great video !!!!!
I'm just happy that Mike could successfully transition from his bigger kits to this smaller one. He hasn't had a kit that small since 7th. grade.
Sheesh that drum sound
Prog Metal drummer plays Songo (typical Latin groove) in his outro solo... bet a few were confused lol Very enjoyable video.
I bet Mike started to study songo before play Metal style...
Top Sound
Mike Mangini 👍❤🇮🇩❤👍
Whipping it out with those Wicked Piston’s!
Fantastic
Italian pride 🇮🇹
Same
GOD it's good to see Mike cleaned up, shaven, and with it.
Pearl means elegant, powerful and deep sound.
Wish you guys wrote down a list of the mics he is using in the description :D
Mike is huge !!!
God DAMN those drums sound so good!
DAMN MIKE!!!!!!
THAT HAS TO BE...... theeeeeee smallest drum set I have seen you playing on in YEARS............
DECADES EVEN!!!!!!
This topic of mics, is one from which I certainly have my own mental battles with!!! I have worked with Billy Ward, A.J. Pero, Hal Blaine's latter years, Jason Bonham, and many, many more over the years!! AND every single one of you guys have your own favorite microphone stories and preferences and it becomes dizzying trying to stay on top of it all!! I personally love ( for general, practical and financial reasons ) Shure's SM 57's on all toms, 81's for HH and OVHD's... though on the kick, I am 100% an AKG kinda Guy... yupper, you know exactly where I am going with this... D112 & the original version, not the D112-II version!! AKG claims that sonically and technically it has changed veryyyyyyy little, if at all!!! I don't think soooooo!!! SAME CHANNEL ON THE BOARD, and with insert used via patchbay to outboard... sooo, same Eq'ing, same compression settings, same gate settings, same input/output settings, as a matter of fact, with reference to otbd toys, ALL JOE MEEK!!!! NO COLORING by "EFFECTS" what so ever!!!!!
ANDDD, all to the same media in the form of two inch Ampex tape on an Otari MX-80 tape machine, controlled by CB-124 wired remote. The only real difference is the "quality" of the tape, although that can be subjective from tape ops, to engineers and producers!! But I tried it anyway, it is how we discover new horizons... sooooo, we laid it down, in order of my perceived quality!! A.) 499 Grand Master, B.) 456 Grand Master and C.) SM 900 ( just not of the G.M. flavor, ) and I noticed a slightly "hotter" output on the mic, and a touch of "robustness" in both timbre and console input level.
The only real difference that is distinctly described, is a 10 ohm bump from 200 ohms ( D112 MkI, ) to 210 ohm ( D112 MkII ) in output impedance and I would have to agree with AKG on the 10 dB "bump" in SPL to 160 dB SPL, which can, ( as far as I am looking at it... ) be best utilized in a "Live" setting, where that increase will be helpful, the engineer though, will have to be mindful to the fact that more is not always better, as runaway low end can and will "stump" the B'Jesus out of an engineer, especially when the drummer has moments of both "laying off" the kick drum, and or "getting right up on it" while trying to stomp his foot through the drum stage floor!!!!! And if A D112 MkII is used in tandem with a line level for a bass guitar, the same phenomenon applies, because if that bass gtr player isn't always playing with "Dynamics" in mind... well... "runaway" low end rumble can be the end results, driving an otherwise "sane engineer" to temporary "insanity!!" But all in all, that combo of shure and AKG has prettymuch been my go to mic selection. Though, I have been on an Audix and Earthworks trend lately!!! I own none of them mind you, but they sure seem to be high on the "leader board" of drum mics!!! Now, Audix "F" & "D" series mics are mostly very affordable, even with my gigantic ( Mike Mangini inspired !! 😉😅 ) drum set!! Earthworks on the other hand, I absolutely love... but will NEVER fit in my budget, probably EVER!!!!! 😮💨
Finally, I will say... Mike you still play a large drum kit, going from your kit with James LaBrie, and at the beginning of your Dream Theater engagement, to currently, it has been toned down in overall size and layout!!!!! It is awesome, refreshing even, to see you downsizing.... as it were!!! 😆
ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER DRUMMER!!!!!!!!!!
PEACE!!!!!!!!!! 🤘🏼
Please, Sweetwater, we want to see him play some Dream Theater songs!
cool, Mike's talking about Mics 😂
Mr drum machine himself nice!!! 🤘🏾😎
Interesting being a studio drummer in the early 2000''s how everything was quantized including the drums. Funny how no one said it was sterile or mechanical back then, huh? Interesting indeed. Might want to look at ALL of his playing through your own eyes and ears, and not just through a mass held belief...You might actually be surprised:)
Mike👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You know what would be great, a gear list.
I’m amazed he can still play a normal kit!
This is by far the smallest kit I've ever seen him play
One of the best drum sounds I've heard from him too!
his G3 touring kit is the smallest
I prefer his smaller kit playing. Thats why his playing on LaBries solo album is some of my favorite from his. Its just more restrictive and tasteful.
The most normal setup I’ve ever seen him sit behind 😂
Gotta love Mike even he’s downsized alittle over time and of course the best reason to play drums best drum maker ever 🥁🥁🥁
the master!!!
Hey Mike, kit sounds….. like you. See you this weekend on zoom!!
🔥🔥🔥
Nick is a great drummer, singer, but I didn't know that he is an excellent interviewer until now.
Hey SweetWater.
I would love drumming there
That st anger snare
Mike has his own sound!! Just an Absolute Monster!!
oh man the interviewer guy is from spocks beard, amazing musician as well
dang that kit sounds great. Anyone know what Zildjian K cymbal that is farthest right if sitting at the kit.
Should be the 21 K sweet ride
@@yetkangwong1077 awesome, thanks...it sure sounds good.
The best
Máster!!!! 👏🎶🥁🤘🔥
Here for the potion class 🧪
7:48 showtime!
Beast of drummer in a Beastie Band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Finally
What Pearl kit is this?.. Sounds great.
Masters Maple Gum Series...
Percebi uma levada quase Brasileira do Samba !!! Show.
This solo gives off a tribal vibe.
🔥❤
Mangini here looks like Professor Snape playing drums, a Dark Wizard of Dream Theatre.
That beat at the end man, Mike can fucking groove. All you troglodytes out there who think Mike has no feel need to get the wax out of your ears, cos this man has it all.
I thought the exact same thing.
great sounding snare, what is it?
weird to not see him playing a ginormous kit with 100 rototoms and 150 octobans
Fk yeah 🤘
what snare is that? i love the sound
I’d much rather see someone playing this size of a kit than a giant one.
He is now playing much more interesting way here than.. let's say, 10 years ago.
Shoutout to SHUH GHEEH!
Shure 545 on snare?
Yup!
@@yurilysoivanov9665 I own one haha. Basically a 57! But silver and just a teeny bit less on the low end frequencies. Not that anyone could hear it. I never see anyone use it these days! I think it was designed for a podium.
Is that Nick D’Virgilio?
7:48 I think this is exactly that kind of "portnoy-esque" ghost-notes heavy rhythms that Dream Theater have been severely lacking in their music since Mangini joined. I hope he will implement it more and not be afraid to overdo it, it sounds killer.
Never see any Bass musicians on Sweetwater. The US is so guitarish and drumish focused.
At Thomann channel the Bass gets nearly the most clicks..
And people dare to say he has no feel. Mangini´s feel is so precise that he is able to keep his articulation uncompromised. Normies give him such a bad rap with no reason besides not being Mike Portnoy.
Wow such a small kit for him hahaha
Mrs. Doubtfire is that?
Sneg is drumming
A metAL DRUMMER playing songs hahaha funny …. He is the best !!!
@rdavidr , this is the tune you stole! 🤣
No hi hat ?
Already calls it passed album a view from the top of the world he is best Mangini drummer of all drummers already to the next album ? Lol
🥱🥱🥱😪😪😪😪😪
I always wondered why Lars Ulrich never had this type of demo Interviews ever..if only he worked as hard as these guys and kept improving
It's a little bit weird to see him uses cross-handed technique
Every one compares him to Portnoy 🤦
Portnoy hasn't got the chops of Mike....not many have that buddy rich hand but mangini comes close
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!
Mangini has articulate and soft voice compared to Portnoy.
@@jeffreykwon3173 Mangini hits way harder than Portnoy just doesn’t seem like it, uses way heavier sticks too. Portnoy is awesome too, better showman perhaps, not quite at the technical level of Mangini.
@@jimmyr1888 I mean his voice is
Thanks for the ultra closed-mic’ed, flat, lifeless, muted drum sound, but no thanks.
MM saved up all his DT money to get a couple of Shure mics and a Karen haircut?
... and improvised this waaaaaay up on another level than Portnoy would or could have. Your insults divert the issue and don’t change how amazing this really is. The guy is not even trying.
@@jaym6906 haha. calm down, it's not that serious.
Can you get rid of labrie and get a real singer?
Alex de mana es mejor que el 😂😂😂😂
Alex se reiría de tu comparación.
Interesting how he tries to do some brazilian rhythms 9:03 but he just doesn't get it right. Just proves the concept of "the best" is nonsense!
No me gusta este bater
