    Unusual but very interesting conversion. First time I've seen a transverse bed conversion without the vehicle body width extensions. Nice carpentry btw.

    I love the amount of light in this van, and plan on doing a similar layout as I really like it, especially with the width-ways bed (im only 5ft 6)

    I find your van a great use of space and love the clever 2 way looking sofa

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад

      Thanks Maria. I love it as it gives lots of space and everything is always accessible even when the bed is in use. I had a former conversion where you couldn't open cupboards or use the toilet when the bed was out and it was so impractical! I also knew I wanted a nice comfy sofa so having it go both ways was just a bonus!

    Looks great, simple not overly bogged down with stuff. How tall are you to fit the bed crossway? Is the van a long wheel base?
    I have a short wheel base and the width is around 5'3" so I need to sleep length ways, I'm only 5'7".

    Great conversion, how could a 6 foot tall person sleep OK?

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад +2

      I'm not quite six foot but sleep comfortably diagonally. I know this doesn't suit everyone so I've actually just upgraded the bed so it can now pull out to make a huge and very sturdy 185 x 150 cm bed that fills the entire space (king sized width!) I will be sorting new cushions this week then will have to update the listing and RUclips page. So plenty of room for a taller person or couple now!

    Hi Luke, would you be willing to share the depth of the kitchen you installed?

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад

      Hi Lisa. Sorry, just saw this. I've sold the van so no longer have it to measure but it's deeper at the bottom than the top due to the slanting back of the seats. I think it would have been around 45cm deep at the counter (I think the sink was 40cmx40cm) and around 60cm at the floor, which allowed extra room for water storage, diesel heater tank, fridge and electrics and toilet.

    Could you share the size of those rims with us? I also have a Vivaro and can’t seem to find some proper ones. I know the Vivaro takes 6jx16 PDC 5x116, but all I found was the steel ones which are part of the original equipment. I also found an alloy pair, but their size is 6,5x16. Would those fit? Thanks!

    Great efficient design mate, nice and clean looking, is the bed long enough width-ways for a 6ft person?

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад

      Thanks! Probably a bit tight if you sleep straight. I'm 5'9" and find it fine diagonally (sleeping pretty straight) but much taller and I'd be tempted to always sleep with the full bed layout. In the kingsized mode there would be plenty of room for a 6' person. Check out the other video linked in the description to see the full bed mode.

    Are those pc fans in the vents?, do they really pull/extract that much air? I would hazard a guess that not really

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад

      You are right, they were not as effective as I had naively hoped, which is unsurprising considering the volume of the van versus a PC casing! They did help make a very gentle circulation of the air which helped a bit when boiling the kettle which was directly below the extraction one, but in my new build I've gone with a proper Maxair fan.

    Greetings from Australia. Thanks for the video, Luke. I am very interested in this unique layout. How much space do you have lying in this bed across the van? Did you do the conversion?

    • @LukeAylen
      @LukeAylen  2 года назад

      Hey! Just saw your comment on the bed extension video too. Thanks. I'd thought long and hard about the layout having used it pretty extensively in a classic rock and roll with side kitchen layout and finding it frustrating for various reasons. I've loved this arrangement.
      I'm 5'10" and find sleeping alone and diagonally (even stretched out) on the smaller bed version totally fine. My sister and brother in law have a similar sized transverse bed where they both sleep. While my sister is shorter my bro IL is probably a bit taller. Somehow they manage but they must be curled sleepers and not mind being cosy! I think I'd definitely want the king sized if I was ever sharing!
      Thanks. I've actually just sold this one yesterday and now looking at base vehicles for the new build. I've been wondering about making videos as I go, so we will see! Already planned the next one pretty carefully on sketch-up and know what base van I'm looking for!

    What was the length of the bed??

    • @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN
      @pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MAN Год назад

      Apparently the max inside width is 65" so the bed length would be 5'5". He mentioned in a comment that he slept diagonal being 5'10" in height himself.
      I hope this helps.
      Edit...In another video he states he made the bed go lengthways and it's now 180cm x 150cm width, this would suggest the bed here in this video is 150cm or 59" from heat to feet.
      It seems he squared off the side panelling and left a larger void (possibly more insulation though?) this reducing the vans inside potential width by a considerable amount.
      I'm thinking he lost an extra 4" width approximately at bed height but perhaps more going by the Vivaro spec's.

      £17995. Full details in the link on the description. Let me know through Quirky Campers if you are interested. Though I've also just upgraded the bed so it extends to be a king sized for taller couples! Sorting the cushions then will update the listing.

    You must be really short with that transverse mounted bed, crazy and it is not classified as a bed as under 1.8m and if you are selling should point that out. "Alcohol is safer than gas", I don't think so and used on boats, no. I have lived on boats and never seen that and never seen alcohol for sale in Portugal where I live. You have not followed convention and that is good, if it works, but it doesn't IMHO.

    • @Sarlatovakennels
      @Sarlatovakennels 9 месяцев назад

      Alcohol is safer than gas! It burns cleaner, isn’t explosive so if stored correctly is far safer than gas!

    • @allanb52
      @allanb52 9 месяцев назад

      @@Sarlatovakennels "So if stored correctly", exactly the same with gas. I see no difference, except gas is more convenient and is the reason everyone uses it......except you mate. Good choice of van though.

    • @Sarlatovakennels
      @Sarlatovakennels 9 месяцев назад

      @@allanb52 if both are stored correctly then alcohol is the safer option! Your comment was that alcohol isn’t safer, it is!

    • @allanb52
      @allanb52 9 месяцев назад

      @@Sarlatovakennels Gas is inherently safe because it is a strong tested container, so you don't need to "store it correctly". Alcohol isn't, I have seen it sold in plastic bottles, so you have go out of you way to ensure it's safety. You are on your own here, everyone else uses gas and it is for convenience. I lived on a boat in a marina in Norfolk and I saw no one using anything but gas. The one real advantage with alcohol is weight, but since you have installed heavy cabinets and drive a 105bhp Vivaro, that isn't an issue. Sorry sport.

    • @Sarlatovakennels
      @Sarlatovakennels 9 месяцев назад

      @@allanb52 oh dear, you clearly have zero understanding of the point here! Although appreciate you attempting to argue this by stating that you have never seen anyone use anything other than gas?? That is absolutely irrelevant in this matter! It has absolutely zero bearing on whether it’s safer or not!
      I’ll give you a little example as clearly you need it! There is a fire on your little boat! You have bottles of alcohol and a bottle of gas, which do you think is more dangerous??? Sorry, but you have no argument here! As I stated, alcohol is safer!!
