  • Givi V46 top case came with an optional brake light kit. Since my Givi aluminum mount did not have a pre-drilled hole for mounting I added one myself. Found and connected to a correct wiring point on the Super Tenere harness. Fun project while waiting for Spring.

Step drill bits are pretty effective for metal. Good quality one can be a bit spendy, but definitely worth the investment for drilling larger holes.

Those contact points work at the bottom of the case. Mostly, that is. But those inside the case are crap! I have tried to fix several cases, to no avail. Now I have just run the wires in a plastic tube along the bottom, up the front, and then under the lid to the brake light. Works a charm! The Givi way is never going to be reliable. Sorry, but fact!

I drilled through the case plug before knocking it out to locate the centre of the hole in the bracket.

I think you're more handy than you give yourself credit for. It seems like an environmental splice would be a better solution for vibration prone paths, With maybe some C wrap insulation.

Hadn't thought about vibe issues, will check out the wrap.

That's the fun of it. You can experiment with different solutions. I think it's called wrap around heat shrink or C wrap, but it's useful when you can't slide a piece of heat shrink over a wire. I think they make 2 into 1 environmental butt splices that would hold up well.

Nice video, if you had to purchase your own top case what do you recommend?

I have silver Jesse panniers that the previous owner installed so I'd prefer to have a matching Jesse top case. Unfortunately they haven't responded to any requests I've made so I'm not sure if they're still in business. I decided to buy the Givi 46L instead and it has been very nice. It actually kind of matches the bike colors and I think has a nice look on the bike, especially when I take the silver Jesse panniers off. I keep all my lighter weight camping gear in it along with rain gear. It worked very well on a big trip I took out west this Spring. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

You may regret this! I hope you have better luck than I did. Fitted kit, spliced into brake light and all was well, for about 1 trip, followed by endless problems. The LEDs themselves, the wiring inside the case, and the external case contact all gave problems. In the end I just gave up.
    Good idea, but poor implementation.

Wow, you have called it. Went out today - no LEDs coming on. :-( Tore it down and found the 'easy' connect clips were barely making contact through the wire insulation. LEDs went off when wiggling the clips and wires. Took all that apart, stripped the wires, soldered and wrapped them instead. Fixed that problem. Then I noticed that if I wiggled the top case the LEDs would glitch off. I think that's due to my hole being a little off, but could be the connector button itself. So yeah, not a very solid solution from Givi I'm afraid. I'll enjoy it as long as it lasts but won't get my hopes up.

mine are on the versys 650, fuse short circuited while out riding so the whole taillight went off and had to replace the fuse but the lights stopped working
