This brings back so many great memories. I always used Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw as mercenaries who were also best friends. They always had each other's backs and were part of every battle. I wish these days would come again. I miss toys like this in the toy aisle.
It’s strange to think that there were only eight figures per wave in the first two years. As a boy, it always felt like there were hundreds. Great channel by the way! Subbed.
What I always found fun were the commercials. They drew you into the MOTU world before you ever had the toy in your hand. You could see yourself as being the kid in the commercial, and then talking to your friends about it. The time taken to develop this series (from cartoon, vehicle and figures), must have been a sight to see back in the day. It is a shame that what must be truly impossible to find, is the storyboard drawings for each episode of the cartoon and commercial. I think one reason why these line of toys are still popular, is because the companies (Mattel, Kenner, etc..) respected and listened to their audience. They knew how to market the product properly, and make toys that would last over time. Something that doesn’t exist these days. Love your videos and especially the stream yesterday Tony. It was fun seeing you get so excited when the tank was up and running Keep up the amazing work and thank you for including us in your passion.
A school friend of mine, back then...he had nearly all of the bloody he-man, thundercats, ghostbusters, blackstar figures...my mom promised I could get my 1st He-man figure and I asked him what would be the best for motu figure to get... Trapjaw...he said, had the most things to play with...moving jaw, three different arms, glow in the dark ring and a belt for his gear...great advice still after all those years.
Once again, Tony provides a comprehensive guide to an action figure toy line, this time focusing on the Masters Of The Universe toy range from 1983, with a detailed and concise mini documentary that is essential viewing for all MOTU fans!
I had the model set versions of Attack Track and the Red and Yelp model Talon Fighter. They look incredibly similar to the actual Mattel toys, and were also extremely fragile.
I spoke to someone that used to work for Mattel and they told me that Faker was an idea cut short, the blue skinned Gar race that Skeletor aka Keldor belonged to was supposed to have many more characters good and evil. After the plan was scrapped they used the body of Faker and just rushed a Heman head, Faker was planned to be either Keldor or a new unknown character to introduce the Gar army.
Another great video. My first MOTU figures were Stratos and Zodac - they were a double pack from Kays Catalogue. We used to use the catalogue to make our Christmas list. Trap-jaw was one of my favourite figures too. I had a great Clubber Lang figure which fit it perfectly with Masters of the Universe.😂
Man-e-faces was my all time favorite. I had most of the figures in this video including the Atak-trak. Good times. Still remember arguing with my parents about buying Faker as they were convinced I already had him as they bought me He-man.
Tony, fantastic job. I remember them all, except Screech. The more I say the name, the more I seem to recall it. I was never a fan of MotU, my brother was. He had some stuff. Mattel was really smart about the line. He-Man being inspired by Frank Frazetta, I would have loved to see Trap-Jaw drawn in that style. 1983 was a good toy year straight across the board! Again, fun and informative vid!
Great timing, Tony, as I'm just starting out collecting MoTU and these guides are a fun and informative way of seeing what is available in the range. Cheers, Jay
Such happy memories as a child, like yourself it was a magical xmas morning i will never forget. I did a loft sale clearance a while back of old toys but i could not part with these. Too many memories attached to them.
just got my Triklops myself. Very happy with the collection so far. I’m glad most of these are still within a range that is affordable. I just won Zodac on auction and he’s on his way in the mail. thanx for the video. This is a great look at the figures.
Trap Jaw is also my favorite of the line. He's probably the coolest looking figure of all time in my personal opinion. With that, we disagree a bit on Ram Man. Ram Man was second to only He-Man in beating Skeletor's forces in my backyard.
I don’t remember my Faker having a sticker on his chest. I must have peeled that off pretty quickly as a kid! Also love the voiceover in the ad, “You have to put it together.” 🤣
1983 was for MOTU and GI Joe a great year so many great characters that really added to the 82 range Tri Clops is my all-time favourite from this era of MOTU.
I was given a Man-E-Weapons Man-E-Faces for my 9th birthday. And then my fate was sealed! 🤣 Trap Jaw remains one of my absolute favourite characters of all time, in whatever iteration the brand has.
Another great video, Mr. Tony! Appreciate your being objective and still enthusiastic about the subject of your videos. Of the 1983 line, Man-E-Faces and Trap-Jaw were the real stand outs. I think Trap-Jaw was meant to be Man-at--Arms' counterpart. I remember Man-E-Face's cartoon debut, where he was feared as a monster; I think it was Orko who gave him his moniker. The Attak Trakk vehicle, unfortunately, was a disappointment as the its cartoon version was better designed. I think the Talon Fighter was referred to as a Wind Raider in the cartoons.
Great video man...as a kid I already was a snob and never cared for (owning) Ram-man....just never felt like a genuine he- man toy for me. Same goes for modulok and that robot combiner... Orko on the other hand is a favourite of mine...still got my original with that purple zip-chord to make it spin...haha my 2 year old loves chasing Orko....
1983 was the year I got into action force I also remember watching the he man cartoon I was aware of figures but because of Star Wars kept to the 3.75 range it’s a shame I couldn’t collect both
Awesome video Tony, I'm heaven. As I've mentioned in past posts, the first two waves of MOTU, in that barbarian/mythological world, shall always be my favourite. Although some other technological elements were introduced with some characters, it still did stick with that original 'swords and sorcery' concept that was lost with the slightly "anything goes" feel the line gained later on. I had all but a couple of the second wave (1983), my thoughts: (Typical long post, grab your pillow folks!) * Ram Man is a strange character in that he is essentially a bulky, hollow shell with an action feature that-semi worked, and yet... he is one of the most beloved characters of the line, and is certainly in my Top 10 favourites, almost as if the character's concept and overall charm forgives the rather poor quality. (BTW, I always longed to have Ram Man in that box art orange/brown colours instead of his 'Christmas Tree' colour scheme!) * Man-E-Faces is again classic, with the face-changing design originating from a 'Big Joe' concept. He was the third character I had for the line as a child, and loved him as, having He-Man and Skeletor, couldn't decide whether I wanted a Heroic or Evil character next, so he ticked both boxes! * Faker is of course a cheap repaint, and yet... outside of He-Man and Skeletor themselves... has always been my favourite figure of the entire line!! (Trap Jaw coming a very close second!) I think this was due to his "evil mirror" of He-Man, with odd colours, and being very little used overall in the franchise, adding to the mystique around him. Indeed released as a 'cheap and easy figure' with little tooling (of which there were many over the toyline, especially in the final wave), Faker was re-released late on with a hard head, known by fans as 'Faker II'. By the way, the actual bios of characters were often quite a way past the actual character design, and there is theory that Faker was initially conceived by Mattel as a cross between He-Man and Skeletor (hence having Skeletor's body colour and armour). * Tri-Klops is my third favourite character of the line. He's simple and yet so effective, tapping right into that barbarian/mythical concept that I love about the early line. The exact functions of his eyes notably differed just about everywhere. I loved the loop on his armour too and wish this had become standard for the line. To note is there are a number of TK head-sculpts, ranging from a very blocky, distorted version (my original) to a far more detailed 'human' one. * Evil-Lyn was the only second wave character I didn't have originally. In fact, she was a very late addition to the second wave, coming a few months after the other characters. Some versions have a glow-in-the-dark sceptre, other versions just a standard one. * What can be said about Trap Jaw that hasn't already been said? Awesome, probably the best figure of the entire line, and closely rivals Faker as my personal favourite. Trap Jaw's jaw was originally spring loaded, but I think mine broke early on, and looks like the one you've got here is broken too Tony. Colours on Trap Jaw can be found to vary, with much more vibrant/muted blue torso and green belt/leg details. Fun fact: The very early concept for Trap Jaw was called 'X-Man'... which obviously wasn't used! * Whether Panthor is classed as second wave is debatable... he kinda came from that between-second-and-third-wave space. Either way, I had him, and although exactly the same mold as Battle Cat, I really liked him for his deep purple flocked effect. * I never had Zoar or Screeech. They're okay, but feel a little bulky and clunky to me, having be repurposed from the Big Jim line. Zoar was later said to be the bird form of The Sorceress, but in earliest appearances (including second wave mini-comics) this is not the case. Screeech was an easy repaint just as Panthor was to Battle Cat, and I generally associate it with the third wave, not the second. Trivia #1: The spelling varies between 'Screech' and 'Screeech', even on the actual box of the toy! Trivia #2: Whilst being shown as a robotic bird in the cartoon series, a few other sources show an abandoned idea that Screeech is Evil-Lyn in bird form. * The Attak Trak was awesome, one that I always wanted but never had - instead had to make do playing with my friend's one instead. I'd personally say maybe the best (non-creature) vehicle of the line... though I do love Spydor! Can be found in both red and orange versions, depending on country of origin. * Point Dread is an oddity... seldom appeared on toy shelves that I ever saw (I never had it)... and it's origins seemed unfocused and contradictory. In some respects Point Dread is an addition to the Castle Grayskull playset, designed (very well) to sit atop one of the turrets and is sometimes shown as such, but in other sources this is not the case and in just about every appearance it's background and origin is shown to different, like they never fully fleshed it out. The Talon Fighter is an okay vehicle, maybe a bit clunky and fragile. Trivia: Before Snake Mountain was established as Skeletor's stronghold, a few sources, including early plans for the Filmation series, stated Point Dread to be Skeletor's base (other time he was just said to liver 'in the catacombs beneath Eternia'). ...By the way, for years, many sources incorrectly listed Mekaneck as a second wave character, whereas in fact he is a third wave character. So we'll be seeing him next instalment. Keep up the good work Tony, looking forward to the 1984 episode (even if it is where the line started to change direction). :) P.P.S. Several sources from this time mention 'Prison Star', an intergalactic spaceship where some of the Universe's worst villains were inprisoned. It appears in a few stories and possibly was at once stage conceived as a playset... how wonderful would it have been!
By the time I really got into MOTU, Point Dread was nowhere to be found. Perhaps its fragility led Mattel to discontinued it and/or the cost of producing the record? No idea. Faker was also discontinued early.
I never had the attack track. Always wanted it & wondered why it wasn’t blue like the cartoon. I think I’m going to look into purchasing a point dread set for my castle grayskull
I have vague memories of my mum cutting off tokens from the back of the packaging and sending away to get me a figure, a letter with a codename I picked on it and flexi vinyl that had he-man's theme on one side and beast mans theme on the other. I still have the vinyl somewhere but it's stored away with about 3000 house vinyl
I got a used Ram-Man back in the day because he became hard to find in stores rather quickly despite his prominence in the TV series. Needless to say, there was a lot of wear to the paint job that wasn't my fault. That said, I just sent a friend request to the previous owner on Facebook. We were classmates. I believe my Tri-Klops used to be his as well. I don't have the ring, but I do have the sword. Trap Jaw is a a great figure, but I lost the belt very early and wasn't happy about that. I very rarely lost accessories, including the ring, which I should still have. Man-E-Faces was the first figure I got after seeing the TV show, which I was initially not interested in watching, but saw when my brother's friend came over. I can't remember the first episode I saw, but the second was the one with Hannibal. The only other toys from this wave I have are Zoar and Panthor. I'm pretty sure my Panthor is in good shape, but I haven't seen it in years because almost all my toys are in storage right now. I never guessed Attak Trak was so fast. I never had it and didn't understand why it looked so different in the show. When I got the DVD set, I noticed "Small Trak" looked like the toy except that the color scheme was reversed.
X-Mas 1983, my original MOTU gift as a child was Man-E-Faces and an plastic model kit version of the Attack Trak, either made by Mattel or ERTYL. I'm not sure which. My mother obviously couldn't find or didn't realize that there were two versions of the Attack Trak. (And I didn't know, either, until that Christmas morning when I received it.) It had no motorized action, but the "wheels" did turn the same way. You just had to push it along. While I was initially disappointed with it, I eventually like it. It was very fragile, though, only being made of light plastic model kit plastic.
@@AnalogToys haha, not hitting on you, you're just way more handsome with it fixed. Was just kinda proud of you for doing something about it, didn't mean to insult.
Hey Tony! Davestoycave here big fan,did the glow in the dark ring come with anyone else? And I couldn't believe last week I shut my light off in the cave and noticed evil lynns glow in the dark staff couldn't believe it!🤯🤯🤯
WHAT!? I had no idea about the glow in the dark staff for Evil Lyn. So I took a blacklight to my MOTU figures (A good way to quickly supercharge the effect) and found no other surprise GitD pieces (JustScareglow and Triklops ring) BUT I did find in my Princess of Power figures that Glimmer's Staff also glows in the dark!
Always wanted - but never got - a Faker. Talon Fighter and Zoar share the same colours. Is it me - or does anyone else think Tri-Klops might have been inspired by the Cyclops from the 1983 movie 'Krull'?
The only figures I didn't get from this lot were Teela, Evil-Lyn and Faker. My parents weren't too keen on the idea of me playing with female action figures (it was a different era and they thought of them as dolls), Faker never really interested me because of the figure looking pretty much like a mash-up between He-Man and Skeletor. Zoar I got, but not Screech. Didn't get Point Dread and Talon Fighter either.
This is a great series, Tony. Can't wait until you cover 1984!
This brings back so many great memories. I always used Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw as mercenaries who were also best friends. They always had each other's backs and were part of every battle.

Great memories! Im was born in 1975 and in the early 80s I was a big fan of these toys! thank you so much for this trip to my childhood!
Awesome and comprehensive! Bravo!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
@@AnalogToysHi and thanks for the great video. Do you recall which year you got your first MOTU figure? Was that in Australia, UK or elsewhere?
Please do a 1984 episode please. This series is fantastic

Trap Jaw is the Boba Fet of Masters of the Universe. My brothers and I adored him.
A great video. I loved them back then and I love them now (aged 49!!). Cheers, Brian.

I thought I knew the MOTU line pretty well, but I learned a LOT from this vid. Great job, as always.
This is terrific thank you! 😃👍
Such happy memories as a child, like yourself it was a magical xmas morning i will never forget. I did a loft sale clearance a while back of old toys but i could not part with these. Too many memories attached to them.
Masters is my favorite toys
Great channel👍
TOP VIDEO!👌
Greetings from Germany👋
Some great memories here - I had several figures myself. 👍🏼👍🏼
just got my Triklops myself.
Trap Jaw always ends up being the best-value figure in any iteration of the brand. So many accessories and features crammed into one figure!
Awesome review Tony!👍
Even though I do not collect MOTU I absolutely love the colors used in the line.👍😁
Nice video Tony
Great job man. I loved growing up with the masters of the universe.
I’ve had my Evil-Lyn figure for over 35 years, and I also never knew the wand glowed in the dark. It’s not in a typical color used for that gimmick.
Now I'm 51 years still love this motu
Awesome. Thanks Tony. Love the trip down memory lane :-)
Trap Jaw and Evil-Lyn are my favourites of the 1983 range. I still hold 1985 as my favourite year from the line as a whole though.
Man e faces and Triclops are my favorite He man figures. It’s too bad they didn’t appear that much in the original the cartoon.
I always put on the monster face and made him go under cover against Skeletor and the bad guys lol
9:14 when he bends He-man's legs to make him sit, I died a little inside. We did that so often as kids, but wouldn't dare now, lol.
Me to complete this toyline will be a dream come true. I never had the chance to own a single one
I don’t remember my Faker having a sticker on his chest. I must have peeled that off pretty quickly as a kid! Also love the voiceover in the ad, “You have to put it together.” 🤣
Can't help but get a chuckle when in the commercial for Trap Jaw it said "string not included" lol
Got the whole line as a kid, only the two birds missing...ah sweet memorys
1983 was for MOTU and GI Joe a great year so many great characters that really added to the 82 range Tri Clops is my all-time favourite from this era of MOTU.

I recall Attack Trak having black rubber belts around the blue treads so it would have more friction...nice vid!
Awesome video!
great video!
Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw are two of the best toy designs ever.

I regret not getting into the 90s re-releases and 80s overstock that were in KayBee Toys for years.
Just got my hands on a Trap Jaw! Missing his hook arm, but still such a great figure.
I never knew Ram Man ever came with an axe and I use to own one as a kid.

The Point Dread advert missed out by not mentioning the Grayskull compatibility!
Been a while since I watched one of your videos. Excellent content, and you look SO much better after having that tooth fixed!
Gee, thanks I guess
@@AnalogToys haha, not hitting on you, you're just way more handsome with it fixed. Was just kinda proud of you for doing something about it, didn't mean to insult.
The MOTU to line really understood that we needed many villains for He Man to fight and not many different He Men with gimics
Hi Tony , Grat video as always . This brings so much nostalgia , to the good old days . Have you or will you be doing MOTU 1985 wave review ? Thanks
Some day, but I need to do 1984 first
@@AnalogToys Well , i look forward to both in the future
6:10 is he supposed to be a pirate?
Hey Tony! Davestoycave here big fan,did the glow in the dark ring come with anyone else? And I couldn't believe last week I shut my light off in the cave and noticed evil lynns glow in the dark staff couldn't believe it!🤯🤯🤯
I think this was the height of my MOTU fandom. Always wanted TrapJaw but never got him.
The UK version had no record or book that I remember ..great line
I hope they make that new movie. Also the He-man theme song is fun to play on guitar.
Trap Jaw is a BAD ASS!!!!
Evil-Lyn's outfit always reminded me of Boo Berry cereal.
Honorable mention-the only other Gar being to be included was a later on character called Sy-Klone, he also has a similar face to Faker!?.
Had Ram-Man and all the first two years dolls. Loved him
those were the days :) but I didn´t manage to get most of these!
Super
Did you ever notice that the figures never held their weapons in most of the old commercials?
I had a big collection when I was a kid but I never had Trap-Jaw.
I even had Eternia.
Please do 1984 and so on
Friend, do you know any page that makes shipments to Spain? I am looking for heman figures from the 80s
Always wanted - but never got - a Faker. Talon Fighter and Zoar share the same colours.
Is it me - or does anyone else think Tri-Klops might have been inspired by the Cyclops from the 1983 movie 'Krull'?
Loved that movie. And, yes, I also thought that, considering his gurn!
The triclops sword holder is called a scabbard
For you to know and knowing is half the battle
A scabbard carries, covers and protects a sword blade, this is not a scabbard.
@@AnalogToys oh thanks for the correction mate
I collected the shit out of he-man and I don't remember the bird/castle turret at all? Wtf. I want it.
Rifle vs unarmed man on a tiger.... yeah I think that battle was a bit misleading on that toy ad.
It is unknown if Trapjaw aka Kronis is an actual Gar being?
Damn Tony "Ramparts and parapets"??? Really makin that hunk of green shitty plastic sound luxurious lol
Silliest Goose that’s how described it on the instruction sheet...
I miss Multi-Bot and Modulok.
