*"Here's to you son"*
That tearjerking moment when Jay calls him son when you know he's always called him kid.
😭😭
He has probably felt it for a while, but waited for Manny to express it
He called him his son in the first season, it was a big moment for them both
I think he always wanted to be called dad by him and wanted to call him son but was afraid of Manny's reaction. Manny was so in love with his father in the first season. Remember when Jay said something like "I know I"m his stepfather,I just don't like to be reminded"..so cute
Jay is Mannys father in reality. He is the one who will make the toast at the wedding rehearsal dinner, he is who Mannys kids will call grandpa and so on. Biological doesn't make family always love does.
Amen to that.
Father is the one to raise and take care of a child, because a everyone can be a sperm donor.

Family is not about being related it’s about love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰
He"ll be dead before grandchildren
So touching. "Here's to you son." This was meant for all the real step-fathers, who really stepped in and did their best.
This part was even sadder knowing that Rico's dad died around that time
So sad. He was only 52.
@@jesseatwater393 Rico is many-
😢😢💯
Yeah he died in like 2019 2020. Feel bad for him sorry
What 52 no way he looks like he is in his 40 . But jay is dream 💭 father figure to every kid ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A scene that stuck with me is when Jay lost at the horse races and said something along the lines of "I know Manny isn't my son, I just don't like to be reminded of it." When I first watched the series, I saw Jay, Manny, and Gloria and i thought "oh this is a recipe for disaster. Beautiful young woman marries wealthy old man and has a weird eccentric stepson. That child will be overlooked" but honestly, out of all the pritchett families, the three of them as a whole somehow actually have the most functional bond.
YES!!! I agree with you. Jay-Gloria-Manny has the best relationship among the 3 families. It was a bit unfortunate for Joe as he came in later seasons so we didn't get the full Delgado-Pritchett household relationship (I like their relationship but I feel that it could have been more if the show goes on)
Man ngl, this scene hit me hard. It tells you that Manny accepts Jay as his father figure and Jay accepts Manny as his son all along. I also have a step-father and it took me 8 years to finally call him my father. Throughout the show, gotta say I love Jay-Manny-Gloria relationship as a family.
Jay calling Manny his "son" is so emotionally moving.
Why does this show always make me cry????
Because it's about the little (read: real) things in life.
I don’t care what anyone says, Jay was Manny’s real dad. He was the one who raised him, was there for him in the high and lows, he was the one protecting Manny and looking after him and he even got MAD when Luke started dating Sherry because that hurt Manny. Jay is his dad, Javier is just the drunk cool uncle who you sort of like but really count on much when you need. Parents are those who raise you, who give you love, who make a family for you….not those who put you in this world necessarily. Love has nothing to do with genes, it has to do with actions and your heart.
As a man who loves his Dad. This is one of my favorite moments on the show.
this episode was so touching
I love how real this is. I hope everyone in the world can experience something like at some point in their lives.
RIP his real dad though
😔 he died?
unfortunately yeah. If you notice, they dedicated this episode to him which I guess is why this episode was really touching on the whole father-son thing
@@elizabently5631 the actor who plays manny, his father died
@@dink7458 it was a hoax.
@@dink7458 No he didn't, benjamin bratt is still very much alive
Well it took Jay long enough to truly and openly bond with Manny and the fact that he was "just" his stepfather made it even harder to pass something on to him. However he continuously tried his best and in this scene, we see how much Manny appreciates his true-hearted effort. If you think about he's accepted and eventually approved him for who he is a lot more than Mitchell (like many middle-aged dads who get a second round in parenting he tried to get further from their he stopped with his older kids - equally understandable and unfair).
To be fair . Mitchell and Claire were raised when Jay and DeeDee were barely making ends meet. When your whole life is hanging by a thread or you are one bad paycheck away from welfare your patience for things you don't agree with goes out the door. Jay is settles now. He's wealthy , has a beautiful wife who makes him feel young ...his patience would be much higher
@@MM-hf6om This. Patience, experience and learning from your mistakes.
People unfairly refer to this new family as a replacement or make over family.
The first children who didn't get the best version of a father, see the dad be a better father to his new kids, and suddenly wish the new kids have the same shitty version father as they did as a punishment. Ignoring the fact that also depends on the relationship dynamic with the new Partner.
You see this in reddit where dads especially have new family, and oldest child get in their feelings about how new siblings have a better version of dad, so treat the dad/stepmom and siblings like crap out of jealousy
"You're a man Now" lol ohhh Manny... I will always see him as a kid XD
I cried SO MUCH on this scene.
Jay Pritchett has to be one of my favourite characters in sitcom history
Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad
As quoted from Yondu in Guardians of Galaxy 2 :
"He may be your father, son, but he aint your Daddy."
This is so much more meaningful if you remember how rough things were between Manny and Jay back in season 1. I loved how their relationship has progressed, it’s one of my favorite relationships in modern family
this is one of my favorite scenes, its tied with the one where they're at the race track and he goes 'I know I'm his step father, I just don't like to be reminded'
Their bonding scenes always turn me into a weeping puddle. Especially with how mean Jay used to be toward Manny in the first couple seasons.
I never had a step father thank God but all those son's out there who love their fathers this scene will hit you every time.
so freaking cute!!!!!
I love their relationship
Manny is all grown up
Watched modern family 3 times over I’ve always loved the manny x jay scenes
Knowing that they were kinda like a family even behind the scenes. And knowing the circumstances at that time. This conversation doesn't feel like Jay and Manny talking it feels like Ed and Rico talking.
I’m not crying
You are
I watched this out of context and cried.
Then finally got to the episode and saw this scene coming, thinking it'd lost its intended effect.
Getting the context and then this scene turned me into a puddle.
You're a cats lady parts
after watching it I literally said “u bitch” because of the pain they made me feel. the audacity to make me laugh and cry in one scene

POWER THROUGH - best line by a grandpa character
So wholesome
Aww bless
He's the daddy who stepped up
Why is it that i read the title as "james bond" instead of "Jay and Manny bond"
They should’ve made an episode where Manny takes Jay’s last name.
I cry
Did anyone notice the continuity error with the bottle cap? (In some shots it's on, then it's off, then Jay takes it off, then it's on again...)
It's a simple mistake or mess-up but not "continuity error" (which would be if they messed up characters's age, bio, character)
I just watched this episode a couple weeks ago!
I kind of wanting a scene in Modern Family where Jay adopts Manny since he was more of a father than Javier
the coolest stepdad
"You're a man now. Power through!!" lolz
Do NOT even act like you are not crying
"double click "❤
Is it wrong that my favourite part of this is the last part about powering through a hangover by drinking more.
Fresh Prince vibes....
Hungover my ass! Hit the shower!
How to ruin a moment...
You missed the point...
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 so did the clip 😅
I would have preferred Jay tell Manny that he loved him rather than give hm (his first?) alcoholic drink. Means nothing,
Its a bonding thing
God, i bet shes a joy at special events.......
He just told him He did
He called him son, that means a lot to Manny
Calling him "son" and treating him like a man was a cool gesture from a character like Jay.
