The drum part for 'Space Boogie' is one of the most difficult ever. Simon Phillips played the original track for the studio album. In this video clip, Vinnie Colaiuta recreates the beat flawlessly.
My GOD that frickin Vincenzo is unstoppable.I am enjoying his superlative drumming since the Zappa era and Ciccio Corea/Patitucci years....he is the best.
I mean, Simon's album track is amazing but God, Vinnie just, I don't know, just eats it, masters it, his little mistakes are like tiny misfires in a Ferarri engine....
I had the pleasure of seeing him with Jeff about 13 months ago in Tulsa. Check him out at about 4:30 in the You Know, You Know vid below. Mystifying! ruclips.net/video/ADBvzJnBAnE/видео.html
I saw the "There and Back" tour with the original members and I've also seen this version of the band live. Both were great! A life time of great memories with Jeff Becks music. Amen!
I mean, I've had the DVD since it first came out, but still - good grief this is an incredible live performance. I've seen his group 3 times, but in my opinion, on this song, all the performers are stellar and in sync BUT my bubba Vinnie just absolutely crushes the drum - not crash/bang/wild but just incredible force, tempo, rhythm and power, yet controlled. He's like a metronome and I LOVE watching him. Help me, somebody help me . . . going to heaven.
My wife and I saw Jeff Beck in concert after his 10 year hiatus from music on his Who Else Tour and we had backstage passes as well :-) One of the best shows we have been to :-) We saw it in Los Angeles @ The Universal Amphitheater :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
So glad Jeff Beck and Tal play together. To my ear they share similar ear for lyrical phrasing. Tal can both play lyrically or also compliment and support it so well. A great pairing.
Jeff looks so healthy in this, like his sinus infections were just a normal background issue his whole life until vaccine time, even post "Pull It", or shortly after supporting Johnny Depp. 😉
The keyboardist is being Chick Corea, Beck is being Al Dimeola, and the drummer, Billy Cobham; and as a group they are being Return to Forever (it is good to see jazz fusion still kicking). I'm not familiar with the bassist... let me do a little research... woah!
Vinnie’s work is great here, but I gotta confess that Simon Phillip’s take on this tube impresses me a lot more. His left hand comping is a masterclass in limp independence.
Great to see it, I'm a huge Vinnie fan but the original album playing by Simon wins it for me - partly due to the vast volume of the kit he plays, its just such a bigger sound.
Jeff is so unique..no pick, holds bar in his hand but doesn't use Floyd Rose locking nut bridge to keep guitar in tune? Plays a strange mode or scale I can't figure out..it's like a morph of major,minor,Lucian,Dorian..very unique indeed. Was way ahead of his time
Spot on! Wow. That's pretty much the same as this Simon Phillips original line in this video. Check out his fine work now with Hiromi. Oh, oh... I feel all the rock percussion trolls coming out of the wood and woolies... Hmmm. Well just try playing it. Do it and report back.
"Of course". But tyler van walen missed two beats in that sig. Yes and we can always count on the expert percussion trolls to show their nads on the comment list. Just try playing this thing with your tiny hands...
The drumming required on this song is incredible. Simon Phillips played on the album version. I don't know if this is him or not....great playing regardless.

Yes, that shuffle feel at a fast tempo is pretty much impossible. I suppose that if Simon can do it Vinnie can do it but still...
because, ya know, Vinnie can play ANYTHING.
He’s incredible!
Just phenomenal!!!
Jeff Beck always found and used the best drummers for his shows
What's most impressive is Vinnie does all this with a nightclub set. Don't need 20 drums and 15 cymbals to kick ass..
My GOD that frickin Vincenzo is unstoppable.I am enjoying his superlative drumming since the Zappa era and Ciccio Corea/Patitucci years....he is the best.
Vinnie is a beast
I mean, Simon's album track is amazing but God, Vinnie just, I don't know, just eats it, masters it, his little mistakes are like tiny misfires in a Ferarri engine....

" if you think about what you're doing your lost." vc
I love how Jeff Beck explores different genres of music, from blues to rock and jazz, like this. Drummer is a BEAST!
Bought the album, "There and Back", where this magnificent tune appears in 1981. Have loved it ever since!!!
I STILL break into a sweat just listening to Vinnie Colaiuta (and Simon Phillips many years before him) go friggin' nuts on the drums.
I don't always listen to Jeff Beck, but when I do so do my neighbors
i cant hear, louder please !!!
As do my neighbors. The get to enjoy it too. LOL
Love this comment. That’s awesome!
The band here is extraordinary, all of them, Jeff was always his own man with his own style. RIP mon ami.

Nice one Doug 👍🏼
@@grahamcawthorne Thanks Graham!
ATTENTION PEOPLE ---- Keep in mind while watching this video that JeFF is 71 years old. NOW, thats amazing !!!!! What a tight band.
Beautifully composed and played. What chemistry. That piano solo, Bass, and Drums, is pure groove.
Man, they are killin' it AND having fun. What a joy to watch.
Absolutely! .. nothing like killin good music ~ and this is not good music.
LOL
Tal wilkenfeld sex
This is not good Music??? Are a complete fuck wit or are just trying to be smart?
broaden your horizons. there is a whole world out there full of variety. jeff beck and his group are spectacular musicians.
Tal Wilkerson and Vinnie Colaiuta are just the BOMB !!!!!
and jeff to.
no lie, Jeff is awesome too.
but the rhythm section gives him wings
TheTimananda no mention of the keyboard?! smh
Wilkerson? wtf
Jason Rebello ....
Eternamente gracias Jeff Beck buen viaje maestro 😿💔 .
what a trip for Tal she got to play with the best and she is loving every second of it

More like a soulbot.
So glad Jeff Beck and Tal play together. To my ear they share similar ear for lyrical phrasing. Tal can both play lyrically or also compliment and support it so well. A great pairing.
Magnifique !! rip jeff
🙏🏼❤️
This drummer is by far the best Fusion complement I have ever heard!
Check out his Attack of the 20lb Pizza! If you like this......
Also if you haven't seen it, have a look at Mahavishnu Orchestra live in 1974 at Montreux. Narada Michael Walden is unbelievable!
This is much better than the studio version from 1980. Colaiuta pulls this off much cleaner that Phillips did back in the day.
Jeff knows how a guitar works. I have been listening to him for 40 or so years.
I first saw him with the Yardbirds, 54 years ago! He was just twenty then and already a great player!
Rip Maestro ! Gods speed 🙏🏼❤️
Nice to hear/see Jason (Rebello) get a chance to share the spotlight. Man has serious chops!
Ah, so he is the piano player. Didn't know that. Thanks.

You're welcome!
I could be wrong, but I think Jason played in more of Jeff's 'groups' than anyone else.
A classic from the old days....And superbly done!
Gary McAleer
Wow !!! Mr Vinnie Colaiuta ... a Real Supa Heroes . Awesome Power Quartette :-)
insanely brilliant - all of them!!
This is so much slicker than the studio version....and that was cool as hell!
R.I.P. The guitar gods have claimed one of their own. 🌹
Gor, what an incredibly talented bunch, the lot of 'em! IMHO, Tal is the greatest bass player since the late John Entwhistle.
Jeff looks so healthy in this, like his sinus infections were just a normal background issue his whole life until vaccine time, even post "Pull It", or shortly after supporting Johnny Depp. 😉
Great clip here excellent shots and mix
Inspired by Quadrant 4 on Billy cobhams spectrum. Sounds great, such a fine gang of musicians!
awesome!!!....the drummer did a great job of Simon Phillips' part
what a killer job, vince.
What a good keyboard player he's got. Complex stuff.
Man that drummer is a stud. To play that double kick drum part at that pace for that long and keep it in time? Not easy.
Vinnie is a monster!
out of this world !
That is really tight! Love it!
oh my shit!!!!!! what have i just seen n heard??? effing amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you like it ✌🏼
There was ever only one 'Jeff Beck'...
Am I back in the 70's with Blow By Blow?
Bloody awesome!!!!
Wow! What a Jam!
Thanks for the description.
Tal and her huge grins, wonderful bassist and an asset to any band.
Good lord those musicians are hot!!!!
Jeff shaking his hands at the drummer like it's just too damn hot.
*Ingenious !!* 🎸
Wow, great video … shows how tricky for all musicians
Brilliant ❤
Jeff really enjoying himself 😔❤🎶🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!

Vinnie does everything but set his drums on fire on this! And Tal...well, she is merely the reincarnation of Jaco.
This is how it's done!
Thing I about Jeff Beck . . . he makes it look easy!
Super real looking wig on Jeff. Look so natural
Seems so strange to see Space Boogie played on a diddy kit, I'd love to see Vinnie play it on the Phillips style drumset, for the bigger sounds.
This band was on fire!
Outstanding!
Great workout by Vinnie. Relentless.
Sure is!
OutStanding!
go man go what a band
If you were there in person - just imagine the sonic power and vibe ripping from that stage - one thing to see it, another to actually experience it!
Glad you liked it, some people think that this band can't play and have no feel......incredible!
vinnie is a machine. I wish he'd bring The Pump back, There & Beck is such masterpiece. the pick-free Beck was fully realized.
Vinnie’s work is great here, but I gotta confess that Simon Phillip’s take on this tube impresses me a lot more. His left hand comping is a masterclass in limp independence.
Jeff Beck...GOD before Clapton and Page ever were and long after they hunkered down into mundanity in the late 70's
Dang. Vinnie smoking grooving on this and still looking like he’s thinking, “Did I leave the iron on in the hotel room?”
effortless bass amazing
Bloody love that drumming.
It’s amazing isn’t it 👍🏼
Great to see it, I'm a huge Vinnie fan but the original album playing by Simon wins it for me - partly due to the vast volume of the kit he plays, its just such a bigger sound.
Love it.....
Glad you liked it.....
When people ask me who my favorite synth player is, I always say Jeff Beck.
Which only shows your ignorance.
Ok, a bit gentler reply.....Jeff is the guitar player. The synth playing is amazing.
ScorpionRegent It's a fucking joke. He makes the guitar sound synth-like. it doesn't take too much thought to understand the joke.
I got it...
get me some goose bumps at the end of that - amazing
Paul Bentley its truly exciting, eh!
Tal and Jeff are having way too much fun.
Minunat!
great guitar
Smokin' !!!
how does Vinnie pull that dynamic off on such a tiny kit, great Simon Phillips work out by Vin.
Génial !
Jeff is so unique..no pick, holds bar in his hand but doesn't use Floyd Rose locking nut bridge to keep guitar in tune? Plays a strange mode or scale I can't figure out..it's like a morph of major,minor,Lucian,Dorian..very unique indeed. Was way ahead of his time
....For such a time as THIS.
Jeff Beck seems to get off on making his bandmates hurt playing such difficult pieces. LOL
But they always rise to the challenge!
It just goes from 7/4 to 8/4 - no biggie for any seasoned player. They are clearly having fun!
LOL...no doubt
Jason Matthew Rebello on the keys.
This is almost too good!!
Yeah it's great isn't it ✌🏼
Spectacular
RedBull gives you wings.

AWESOME!
Thumbs up for this number yeahee
That beat makes me hot for teacher.
JiBenJiBe 😂
.... hot for teacher or torture?
Spot on! Wow. That's pretty much the same as this Simon Phillips original line in this video. Check out his fine work now with Hiromi.
Oh, oh... I feel all the rock percussion trolls coming out of the wood and woolies... Hmmm. Well just try playing it. Do it and report back.
Of course this is what they got it from!
"Of course". But tyler van walen missed two beats in that sig. Yes and we can always count on the expert percussion trolls to show their nads on the comment list. Just try playing this thing with your tiny hands...
Came here after hearing Gregg bisonette conpare this to the hot for teacher drum part .
I've just discovered Tal Wilkerson for myself.
Wow, she's good! :D
Rocks like my grammy
The drumming required on this song is incredible. Simon Phillips played on the album version. I don't know if this is him or not....great playing regardless.
This is Vinnie Colaiuta
The most important keys ever known
Might anyone give a shout out to Patrick Rebello? He gives every song exactly what it needs.
Jason 🙏🏼
