    And I thought I was the only old guy trying to make my f150 look cool. Nice job.

    Everyone, save yourself a lot of time, and frustration, and get yourself some trim tools (they're not expensive). I just removed mine yesterday and I used trim tools to pry it out from the other side. You don't need to squeeze the clips in, they're designed to squeeze in when pryed from the outside.

      im strugglin so hard to get mine off!, did you pry it from outside the tailgate or inside from the access panel?

    Nice! I did the ones on the front fenders. Ordered them on amazon and pulled them apart. Then painted. The F150 is all flat black with the XLT being bronze to match my wheels. Came out awesome. Very nice job though this might be my next project.

    Thanks for that. A custom shop quoted me $450 to do mine. I'm going to search for my paint color and do it myself.

    Came out great! Do you do any light sanding on the plastic before you painted them?

    First and foremost, thank you so much for posting this video. I have the same color 2018 F-150 and am looking to do this. This is not a negative comment towards you or your work, I just want to find a white that matches the truck a little better.

      Kyle Haley the Duplicolor Perfect match paint at the chain auto parts stores has the Ford Oxford White which I’ve used for some parts and looks right on to me

      IMO, it is very easy to spot bad paint matches...even when a "paint blend" is used to make a repair. But not everyone has that keen of an eye. Every new car and SUV has mismatched paint color / tone comparing the sheet metal with the plastic (polypropylene) bumpers. There are NUMEROUS batches mixed at the factory under the same "paint code". Therefore, SEVERAL variations exist of the same "paint color code". I have owned several Ford Super Duty trucks.....two F350 SRW trucks with Oxford White color. The white colors can be difficult to match since there are "blue whites", "yellow whites", cream whites", etc. However, there is some good news.
      Paint Match is now hi-tech. My next Super Duty I plan to have the Ford ovals and fender emblems painted body color and black. I will take the ovals and fender emblems apart; do the prep work (sand with 220 and then with 400); and take the parts and a clean quart paint can to a body shop that has the Adam 5 Spectrophotometer and the Automotive Art Motomix Color Software; have the shop base (color) coat, sand and clear coat. I will ask the shop to pour the extra paint into the quart can so I will have it on hand for touchup paint. After I pick up the finished parts from the body shop, I will used JB PlasticWeld or Permatex Plastic Welder to reassemble the parts.
      The painting per se is relatively quick and easy...relatively low labor cost, but high paint cost (compared to aerosol cans). The majority of the expense lies in the labor of disassembly, prep (sanding) and reassembly of the parts. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a high quality result...best possible paint match, adhesion, protection (clear gloss or clear matte) at the lowest monetary outlay.....professional results at a bargain price...the best value for the dollar spent.

    Glenn, I just bought a 2018 F150 Limited Sports and I'm thinking about changing the emblem to match the car, btw my truck looks exactly like yours and wanted to do the same thing you did. You did an awesome job and looks damn good. I have a dumb question, why didn't you take out the emblem from your truck and work that one but instead you bought one and replaced it?

    Looks awesome, Is your truck the oxford or platinum pearl white? Nine is the platinum white and I want to paint it my self but what would be a good place to get the paint from that would match right?

      Mine is the oxford white. The pearl paint is BEAUTIFUL but from what I have heard, is very difficult to match. No idea where to get it.

    I got a black f150, not sure if I should do matte black or gloss. And since Its a black truck I guess I should just do the whole emblem black???

    • @glennjames1756
      @glennjames1756  4 года назад +1

      FlexZero. I have seen them blacked out and they look good! Might think about doing a flat black with the Ford piece being gloss. This might help it stand out in an understated way. Hope that makes sense.

    If I Painted Mine, I Would Do The Ring Black, The Lettering Custom Red And Black, And Then The Rest Of It Red

    Do you glue them together after your done painting? Since you drilled out what was actually holding it together. Thanks

      guy nelson Yes sir! That is what I did. Superglued the back where I drilled and removed the material. I think you can do it however you like.

    Just wondering have you had any water leakage since you removed the mastic that was on there, that tailgate panel is for the rear camera harnesses etc.?

    Buy the black tailgate inserts for the F150 lettering. It made mine stand out.

      @@glennjames1756 Glenn that's great, I myself am wary of tackling the front emblem. All the information I see says the front grill needs to be removed in order to access the back of the emblem. Can't say I want to take that on! I am going to take a look see if there is some way to get to it, without dismantling!

    • @glennjames1756
      @glennjames1756  5 лет назад

      bruce I have actually purchased another grill from a gentleman that put on an aftermarket grill on his truck. I have to say I don’t think there’s anyway to do it without removing the grill I will try to do a video in the next month or so showing exactly what it takes

      thanks Glenn, brt your looking forard to fitting that new grille.! Took a look at mine tonight and i can almost get my hand in between th two "bars" of the grille. i think its unlikely to get enough access though. Once i get a free weekendi will look at it in more detail.
