I think given how his life ended it’s his defining song. And I mean that in a sincere and sorrowful way, not a sarcastic one. He was a brilliant, tortured soul.
it's weird. i listen to this man sing at least a few songs every single day, and it never gets old. even when his voice is fucked he sounds much better than the average rock singer somehow. he's basically a genius of singing. one of the few living ones.
Completely agree! Same for me, listen to him every day, never gets old, only gets better. Cant wait to see Soundgarden this summer in concert! My tickets are ordered!
How can he still sound this good? Sure there's probably a lot of workout and green tea involved but still, Superunkown was 22 years ago. Not like he's up there just touching the high notes, he COMPLETELY owns them. Damn impressive!
I grew up on Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and in the later days Audioslave.... This and Chris and Ben on Blow up the outside make me so happy he grew with me.... Chris Cornell only got better with age. This shit is amazing.
For we've fallen on black days in need of light. Won't you light my way and show me how to live? We're only halfway there, so we need to carry on and live to rise in these times of trouble. Revelations of higher truths can guide us through to the last remaining light.
That smile from Ben Shepherd at about 3.30 says a lot. It's like he's thinking "yep, I'm playing with one of the greatest vocalists thats ever lived". RIP Chris.
Yeah, Ben's grin does indeed say just that.... I thought it was because Chris missed his line at the 1:24 mark, and repeats 'sunspots are fading...' line instead of 'I'm only faking...' line, but that was a different grin at the 1:30 mark, not the 3:30mark. So you're absolutely right. That is a knowing grin reflecting on that howling 'Chaaaaaange'...line..peace!.✌😎
Always been my most relatable and favorite Soundgarden song since day 1...no matter which version they, or he does... Even when his voice is tired he's the best.... Like the Robert Plant of my music era.... RIP to my music generation... RIP to King Cornell!! Will never stop listening...
Whatsoever I've feared has come to life Whatsoever I've fought off became my life Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile Sunspots have faded and now I'm doing time Now I'm doing time 'Cause I fell on black days I fell on black days Whomsoever I've cured, I've sickened now And whomsoever I've cradled, I've put you down I'm a search light soul they say But I can't see it in the night I'm only faking when I get it right When I get it right 'Cause I fell on black days I fell on black days How would I know That this could be my fate? How would I know That this could be my fate? Yeah Uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, uh Uh, uh, uh So what you wanted to see good Has made you blind And what you wanted to be yours Has made it mine Don't you lock up something That you wanted to see fly Hands are for shaking No, not tying, no, not tying I sure don't mind a change I sure don't mind a change Yeah, I sure don't mind, sure don't mind a change I sure don't mind a change 'Cause I fell on black days I fell on black days How would I know That this could be my fate? How would I know That this could be my fate? How would I know That this could be my fate? How would I know That this could be my fate? I sure don't mind a change
Chris ... such a great guitarist. Ben- a quiet angel. ♥ Seems like yesterday we were all diggin this and whatever this band was releasing. Seems like we can touch those who are now gone. Our long gone friends. Deceased . but.. Such a beautiful version and we love this band so much. Peace to them and peace and love to their soul and loved ones.
Ok I know there's irony in what I'm about to say. Chris is such a consummate professional that when he forgets the end of the second verse I think he catches himself and he fully commits as if that's what he was planning to do. Besides, they're his lyrics and he can do whatever he wants with them, when a song is recorded and released it doesn't mean it's done. Songs evolve over the years, with some bands a studio version and a live version of the song are two completely separate things. Some people get angry about that but I like not just hearing something I've already heard exactly the same way when I see a band. And even Chris' mistakes can make me cry where someone else's perfect rendition might not even affect me
geekrockrats he and vedder are both known for changing the lyrics to songs switching chorus's up listen to early renditions of slaves n bulldozers he goes into verses of other songs from different bands in the middle. sometimes The Doors, sometimes Pearl Jam, sometimes a Nirvana song verse then instrumental then back into last verse or two of original song they started. pretty frickin cool I've always liked that about him.
Chris you've managed to sum up my own personal "black days" with these lyrics...its like i've re-lived that moment every time this is played...well done...thats how music should always be....an expression of heart & soul
Thanks a million for uploading. As soon as I was home I played the main riff like a madman on my guitar. Thank you Chris for sticking around. The times after Kurts suicide would have been dreadful without you. Respect!
Just thankfully we have a few of these great artist alive today from that era. Layne and Kurt left us too soon, but their brief stay in this world left us with real timeless music. Today we just have clever marketing schemes, not music.
3:22 ben's like "yeah, we awesome"
Isn't it a great response.......legends!!!
Ben's smile says it all. It says, I am happy to be here. It says, damn this Chris Cornell guy has always been amazing, but he sounds better than ever.
That smile is a 'hell ye' smile
Love this performance and Ben's smile is awesome 🤘🏽🖤
Smiles for miles😊
This is my favorite Soundgarden song.

This is the blackest of days, Chris. You passed away way too early. The (music) world will be poorer without you. Rest in peace.

Well Not anymore. RIP Chris :(
How can he still sound this good? Sure there's probably a lot of workout and green tea involved but still, Superunkown was 22 years ago. Not like he's up there just touching the high notes, he COMPLETELY owns them. Damn impressive!
RIP CHRIS.... A sad day in the music world
Wish Chris was still here with us. His music is eternal.
"I sure don't mind a change."

I understand Chris Cornell's choices more than I ever hoped I would.
whatever this radio station paid...it was worth every second of time
Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded and now I'm doing time
Now I'm doing time
'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days
Whomsoever I've cured, I've sickened now
And whomsoever I've cradled, I've put you down
I'm a search light soul they say
But I can't see it in the night
I'm only faking when I get it right
When I get it right
'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days
How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate? Yeah
Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh
So what you wanted to see good
Has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours
Has made it mine
Don't you lock up something
That you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
No, not tying, no, not tying
I sure don't mind a change
I sure don't mind a change
Yeah, I sure don't mind, sure don't mind a change
I sure don't mind a change
'Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days
How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?
I sure don't mind a change
Thank you
