EXO are known as the vocal kings of kpop so you can always expect incredible singing haha
Long comment ahead but let me explain about the mv's released before wolf so you can decide what to do (I'd say either you can do both the K and M videos or just the korean versions if you want)
What Is Love (pre debut mv): only 2 members sing the song but all 12 are in the video. Baekhyun and D.O in the K version and Chen and Luhan (who's no longer in the group) in the M version (they're all main vocalists)
History (pre debut mv): the 6 K/M members sing in their respective units and are the ones who are shown the most but everyone's in both videos
MAMA (debut song, highly recommended): basically the same case with history. Iconic debut, I don't think any group came out with a song like this, especially for their first
In Wolf and Growl they're all singing and even if they were divided as 6 in parts of the choreo, they were all mixed up and not with the K/M formations
Fun facts: Growl was filmed in one shot, you can even see one of the members dropping his hat and picking it up in the middle of the video lol
And what you thought it was a wolf face shape in the choreo was actually the "tree of life" which is related to their lore.
In a very short and simplified way, their concept is that the members are aliens from exo planet who have powers and have to fight the red force (it's explained way better in the MAMA mv)
The mv after these two is Overdose and even though it has the K/M versions, all the members sing in both.
After that they stopped with the unit system and just started to promote as EXO (they still kept doing chinese versions of the songs but with all the members together)
Hope all of this helped (sorry for the long ass comment 😅)

"Wolf" was EXO's first comeback since their debut promotions and it came out in May 2013 as part of their XOXO album, so you will see all 12 members in this MV. "Wolf" was another one of EXO's songs that the mainstream public thought SM was making an even bigger mistake with. It was a song and concept that was too unique for most mainstream listeners when it first came out, and most people didn't really like the song or the MV. However, as many have discovered, it's one of those songs that once you listen to it more, it grows on you, and now it has become much more popular.
When EXO had 12 members, they were all involved in both versions of their MVs. However, the EXO-K members were featured more prominently in the EXO-K versions and they were the ones that sang the main parts of the songs, but if you watch the EXO-M version you will see that the EXO-M members are the ones highlighted in the MV and EXO-M sings the main parts of the song. EXO's slogan is "We are One," which means they are one as a group and one with their fans, so even when they had separate sub-units, they were meant to be one group.
What you see in their "Wolf" MV is that all 12 members come together to form the Tree of Life (not a wolf face ;D) and, in the middle of the song, you see how they split up into EXO-K and EXO-M and each group creates their own tree. How I interpenetrate that is they are showing how the tree has now been split in half and each half of the tree represents the two halves of EXO. In the intro to their debut "Mama" MV they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. As aliens from Planet Exo, it's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world.
You should also check out the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version of their "Wolf" MV to see what the song sounds like in Mandarin and to discover how the MV is slightly different.
In "Wolf" the members are supposed to be a wolf pack. So, the entire MV and the song is them acting like wolves.
Everything in this MV says EXO, because as a wolf pack, they are supposed to be inside EXO's cave or the pack's den, etc. (Which some theories have pointed to, could be connected to SuperM's "Tiger Inside" MV.)
The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc. The wolf comes out of the forest (as he scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life) in the beginning of the MV and he is stalking his prey. Their prey is the girl that, in the song, they are talking about being so obsessed with and in love with that they can't help but act like a wolf and capture her so that no one else can have her, etc.
In EXO's songs and MVs it is often thought that the girl that EXO sings about is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life. So, that is why EXO becomes so enamored by her and so possessive and protective of her, etc. Protecting the heart of the Tree of Life -- or "the girl" -- is what EXO has been sent to Earth to do.
I'm not sure how this concept was supposed to fit into EXO's larger storyline, but many feel that after the 3 Chinese members -- Kris, Luhan and Tao -- left the group that the wolf part of the story was completely dropped and it is no longer part of EXO's story. So, we just watch it as a fun side story now instead.
If you look up the lyrics of the song, you will see that they are talking about being a wolf. The main point of the song is they are saying, I'm a wolf, I'm a wolf and I love you so fiercely that I am going to capture you and possess you and devour you like the wolf that I am. However, the song itself isn't necessarily just about being a wolf, it also has elements that connect it to EXO's storyline.
If you are impressed with EXO's vocals in the MV, just wait until you see the live concert remix performance of the song. You will be even more blown away when you hear what they can do live, ruclips.net/video/a8UeSVgiXmI/видео.html.
"Growl" is the follow up song to "Wolf. "Growl" was the song that was the lead track on the XOXO repackaged album, which came out in August 2013. Now that you have seen both "Growl" and "Wolf," you should check out EXO's "Growl"/"Wolf" Drama video, ruclips.net/video/sFCvZUSnuus/видео.html.
Watching the drama also might help to explain more of the story in their "Wolf" MV. However, as I said, I'm not sure the story goes any further than being mostly just a fun side story now.
Fun fact: Kris's eyes turning red will make more sense once you watch the drama version. On top of being aliens they -- Kris and Luhan in particular, and maybe Lay -- also are wolves. Just watch the short drama video to see what I mean.

I believe this was a one take. I love that, when Kai's cap fell off, he didn't stop. He kept dancing and quickly picked it up. At the same time as Kai dropping his cap, Luhan made a mistake as well but also didn't stop. He quickly fixed it and continued.

That was not wolf's face, that was a tree(tree of life) . Trust me , when you listen to EXO, you will be amazed how different each songs are. The only common thing you will notice is extremely good vocals, good and catchy choreo(EXO is one of the most covered k-pop group because their choreographies are just too iconic)Good and unique rapping style.

As you discovered, the performance version of EXO's "Growl" is a one take video, which means that it was shot all in one take without any cuts or edits. However, although it is a one take video, this does not mean they used the very first take, it just means that every time anyone made a mistake, they had to start all over again from the very beginning. While filming the one take MV they had to dance the choreography about 7 times and this was the take the director and producer decided to use. They actually danced this choreography for the filming of this MV until they physically could not do it anymore.
But not even this take was technically "perfect." If you notice, Kai (EXO's main dancer) drops the hat in the middle of the dance in the Korean version and he smoothly bends down and picks it up. (The stealing of the hat is actually part of the choreography.) As you saw, Kai needed the hat at the end. But because it was done so effortlessly that most people don't even notice the mistake, or assume it's just part of the choreography, the director and editors decided to use this footage anyway.
And if you watch the Mandarin version, if you look closely, you will see Suho (EXO's leader) steps on Sehun's foot and Sehun (EXO's youngest member, a main rapper and dancer) swats him as if to say, "hey, watch out.". :D.
In the beginning of the performance MV, you start out by seeing 6 of the members, and as the camera spins around, you see the other 6 members. In the Korean version, you see the EXO-K (Korean) members featured first in the two groups. and if you watch the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version, you will see the EXO-M members featured more prominently. (Anything that takes place before 2014, you will see all 12 members involved.)
However, what is even more impressive about "Growl", is the fact that they filmed 4 versions of the "Growl" MV, so not only did they have to perfect the dance in the Korean performance version, but they also had to do it again in the Mandarin version and then again in both the 2nd MV versions. And it wasn't like they could use the same footage, because the Korean and Mandarin versions aren't exactly the same -- the EXO-M and EXO-K members had different parts in each of the MVs -- so that just adds another element to this.
EXO actually filmed 5 different videos for the song "Growl." There is still one more video that was released as part of their "Wolf" and "Growl" promotions. There is a drama video that combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. Here is a link to the full "Growl" and "Wolf" drama version, ruclips.net/video/sFCvZUSnuus/видео.html. Plus, there are several iconic live performances of "Growl" as well.

If you notice, the camera movements are actually part of the choreography, because the camera is another character in the performance. The camera is supposed to represent the girl that they are singing to. So that is why they are looking at the camera so intensely because they are trying to get the girl's attention. They are each trying to impress her with their moves.
If you look up the lyrics for "Growl," you will see they are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast that can no longer control themselves around the girl, and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully)
It’s dangerous now (so dangerous) Stop provoking me (there’s going to be trouble) I don’t even know myself ... My breath keeps on stopping You walk towards me You smile at me Maybe you’re attracted to me too .... A dark shadow has woken up inside of me Sparks fly in my eyes as I look at you
Everyone step away from her (step away) It’s going to get fierce from now on I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling If you don’t back away then I don’t care if you get hurt ..." etc.
Some believe that the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in their song "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end, they know they might destroy her -- as they say in the lyrics of their song "Monster," etc., etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the mystery begins to unfold even more.

EXO got so good at this choreography that they were able to perform the whole thing live on award shows and music programs just like they did in the MV, all while singing live as well. You should also check out their Beauty and Beast performance at the 2013 MAMA awards to see how impressive they perform the full "Growl" choreography live, ruclips.net/video/ycql_T6Fc9c/видео.html.
"Growl" and their one take performance is what launched EXO into superstardom and it's what made them the most popular group in Korea. It's one of the reasons why the government has given EXO the title of Korea's national boy group.
However, "Growl" came out in 2013, about a year after EXO debuted, and up until that point EXO wasn't very well known or popular. When they first debuted, many people called them "SM's biggest mistake." Because the concept of them being aliens from Planet Exo and the fact that they were designed specifically to debut in both Korea and China and several foreign Chinese members were chosen specifically to make up their own sub-unit, etc., many people had a hard time understanding how EXO would ever be successful. The group started out being branded as SM's first failure, and they thought Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) was crazy for coming up with the group.
But when the one take video for "Growl" was released, everyone began to take notice. This video was pretty groundbreaking, no group had done a one take video quite like this and it proved to the mainstream audiences that SM really did know what they were doing. Now everyone in Korea and around the world knows EXO and they have become one of the most popular groups that are one of the biggest money-makers for SM. "Growl" has become what they are most known for.
"Growl" is nicknamed South Korea's second national anthem, so you may start to notice that you hear it used everywhere. It's played all over the place and is used as background music, etc. in a lot of things.
EXO even performed this song, along with their song "Power," at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2018, and both songs were Olympic theme songs that could be heard at venues and events throughout the games that year. EXO was the only Kpop group to be asked to perform at the Olympics that year, which just goes to show you how influential and popular they have become.

Subscribing right now to follow your EXO journey cause it's one hell of an experience! EXO are THE kpop vocal kings since they debuted 11 years ago. Growl was their breakthrough song (MV taken all in one shot, and that's not the only thing they've done: "one shot, one kill", to quote one of the members after dingo killing voice), even elders and flies would know the song and choreo to it. It had such a cultural impact in SK that no one has yet to reach that (words of a Sk user's comment). These guys are top tier performers who sound better live than recorded! Elite non skip discography for every taste, a fan full of genres for every mood.
As for their story, they were initially 12, split in exo-k (for Korean promo with Korean songs) and exo-m (promoting in china with songs in Mandarin, hence "m"). In 2/3 yrs , 3 members called it quit and they have been only EXO since then with 9 members. The only Chinese member, Lay, is not part of the agency anymore but still part of the group even if not a lot present due to SK-China conflicts. In some MVs you may see less members which is when some had to leave for mandatory enlistment. Kai is now in the military and the youngest, Sehun, is going soon as well and we will be finally done so they can come back in full force! Thank you for this reaction to my dear EXO, can't wait to watch what the next video will be!

Welcome to your journey to the EXO rabbit hole. The whole concept of EXO is complex and they have a discography that will never disappoint.
I can’t give you a straight answer on what to listen to EXO first. They did make a comeback this year and released 3 MVs for it with different vibes. That might be something to try.
Some songs that are fan faves:
    - Tempo
    - Monster
    - Mama
    - Obsession
You can also try checking out their Killing Voice from Dingo to get snippets of their most popular songs. The thing about EXO is their vocally strong and their live stages/concert stages are better than the studio version.
I saw that you checked out Kai and I highly suggest checking out the other members. Since they’re so good at singing, almost all members have solo albums.
    So… enjoy the content!

EXO doesn't perform in two subunits since 2014 (last time), with the third chinese member leaving the group, they started to perform as one under the same name, just EXO . As for now, there are 8 active members , all koreans, and one inactive member who's chinese. The chinese member, LAY, left the company (SM Entertainment) last year and it's supposed that he didn't manage to come to a consent with the company to continue promote with the group after he left SM, but he still see himself as part of the group while continuing his huge career in China.
EXO's discography isn't confusing, but very diverse, every album has different vibe and style, that's their strength, being able to pull out every genre ,and they did quite a lot in 11 years.
