Making salad is basically just putting a seed into soil, water, wait, and then harvest. i dunno how that would make for a great episode but i want to see that too now that you've mentioned it!
I would watch a video of him, no matter what. I have been saying 'don't ever change' about Brad since the dawn of time(i.e. a few months ago when I discovered this angel.)
That paper test oh my god. I love the look on both of their faces. Kramer knew he would be blown away and you can tell it still made him happy to see another person enjoy his work
Words like "craftsman" and "artisan" get bandied about with abandon these days, but Bob Kramer is an individual that truly embodies the spirit of craftsmanship. The amount of care and detail that goes into his knives is unparalleled.
Its also not abandoning in europe. Especially Germany. And Sorry Jason, but Japenese knives are not better than hand crafted european or american knifes. They tend to a lot of fancy stuff to them thats only that, fancy. No increase in performance. Damascus stell is already just for fancyness.
Jason Reyes why do you have to turn it into a competition? We’re talking about this man and his very apparent talents, this video has nothing to do with Japanese knives, which I’m sure are lovely.
@Jason Reyes The commercially available knifes are not made by Kramer, or his production. It is partnerships with larger corporations such as Zwilling. If you are buying actual Kramer knifes, they definitely exceed the thousands of dollars. He is the only Master bladesmith specializing in knifes in the US - that is VERY expensive (but worth it).
Bob Kramer is like if some random guy's uncle made Rolls Royce for royalty in his shop, by himself. The guy's reputation is immense but he seems real down to earth and about the craft. I like Bob.
when bob dropped the hot steel, i was like "oh no brad dropped it!" but then we see it's bob and the camera pans to brad who's like "ha! you thought it was me but it WASN'T"
It's not noodling, but Watching Kramer work is a treat. I watched Anthony Bourdain's Raw Craft video with him like 5 times. Still holding out for noodling!
@@matthewmacaulay9773 Hunzi edits this series (It's Alive). Vinny was always the camera guy while he was around. Brad always talked to him. Now Hunzi films and edits, I believe.
I’m way late to this video, but just wanted to say I hope Brad appreciates that “master class” he just got! There aren’t 10 bladesmiths in North America that make their own crucible steel!
His expression when he cut into the paper was amazing. Not many people get to experience the feeling that is conveyed through using a quality, hand made product like that. I hope that knife will be put to good use! Well done!
@@ansonhu2677 Nah, the beauty of that knife is the different layers of hard steel and soft steel. It's the pure impurity that keeps that knife sharp and strong.
Just gave my family some of Brad's sauerkraut this weekend. I have been getting texts every day about how much they like it. Two jars are already gone. Thanks Brad!
this episode really shows off the best parts of brad's personality. he's engaged and excited to learn, he brings out the best in his teacher. that kind of honest curiosity is what makes him a great host!
I have been an avid RUclips watcher for probably 7+ years and I have never felt the need to comment on a video. But this is single handedly the best video I have ever seen. I am two glasses of wine deep and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this masterpiece. Forever grateful.
I have spent the last few hours watching every video I can find with Brad in it. If you cook by feel this guy gets you on an emotional level...and who likes chefs that act perfect? Brad you the real mvp
I really love that bob straight up let Brad do the whole shebang, I'm sure he liked showing brad and Chris around, and obviously Brad had a grade A time
Check out Alex Steele he does a lot of videos like this. And is very high energy. Another good one is Walter Sorrels. He specializes in Japanese blades. He’s much more calm and really knows the craft
I would recommend Alec Steele for good high energy blacksmithing videos, there's also Man At Arms REFORGED for high production videos about swords from movies anime and history and the like.
Bob Kramer is such an absolute legend - in fact, I would argue that forging a knife with Kramer for this episode did a disservice to blade smithing/forging; he LITERALLY makes it look EASY! There's just no way that someone can watch this and think that it doesn't look pretty 'easy' and 'straightforward', he just works so effortlessly! Great episode!
Brad, I am a knife maker, a jeweler, and a HUGE fan of yours. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Mr. Kramer is an amazing bladesmith and this was fantastic. I've always wanted to make an induction furnace and it was awesome seeing one actually used.
No offence to the other shows on Bon Appetit, I'm sure they're good and all, but this guy needs his own channel. I first was introduced when the hot one's guy was on and the rest of my day was watching every episode of It's alive. Great guy and great editing. Super funny and jolly vibes all around.
I highly doubt he does his own editing I’m sure that’s one of the key reason he’s with Bon Appetit is for professional camera work, editing and people setting up his trips
Much more entertaining than Anthony Bourdain's episode with Bob. Shout out to whoever edits these videos. You're killin' it bro. You make Brad that much more funny. Shout out to Brad, you the homie. I think we could be friends IRL.
When I watch videos like this I think of the times when knives just like this were made without machines. Humans can be trash, but we're also amazing in so many ways.
Every cook, foodie and chef should do this! These days we need more appriciation for the great craftsmanship that goes into creating everyday tools and utensils. It's just a satisfying experience and you'll take much better care of your tools if you created them yourself. Sorta like going back to a point in time where you could fix things yourself if you weren't a daft meathead. Nowadays many things are made to break so you're gonna have to buy new things.
I have seen this process over a hundred times, yet I find this extremely entertaining. Hell, I think Brad could make waiting for the buss interesting enough for me to watch it XD

"Don't ever change" is so true. I love Brad! I would legit watch a video of him just making an iceberg lettuce salad
