I just can't get over the fact that Johnny was briskly walking straight toward a brick wall before Mike got his attention. It leads me to wonder what would have happened if Mike had not gotten his attention

In the universe that The Room is set in ... the physics are different to ours ... in their universe sound takes longer to travel ... if you factor this into each of the movies scenes, everything makes a lot more sense ... often the character's are responding to something that happened minutes ago. It's really quite genius, when you think about it.
That's how long it takes him to translate it to Alienese.
If we analyse this scene carefully, we can see the underlying dynamic of the four friends: Johnny sits at the top with his gorgeous wife-to-be as an example of the All-American hero and beloved member of the San Francisco community. Mark sits as his right hand man, his dragon and closest confidant. Beneath them both is Denny, the young prince in Johnny's aristocracy, and at the bottom is Mike, who does not spend nearly as much time with Johnny as Mark or Denny and is consequently established as being beneath them in the pecking order.
The underwear tragedy is a story that Mike uses to self-deprecate himself in an attempt to establish a better friendship with Johnny, and elevate him to a better position in the social order. When Denny arrives, Mike's poor attempt to excuse himself is evidence that he is only interested in Johnny's approval, and sees his other friends as rivals for Johnny's attention. It also brings to light his low self esteem: he feels inferior even to Johnny's young ward Denny.
However, this pales in comparison to Mike's relationship with Mark. Immediately, Mike's unwillingness to divulge the underwear story to Mark demonstrates his fear and submission to Mark. But Mark recognises Mike's story as an attempt to climb the ranks and potentially replace him, and he responds by establishing his dominance: pushing Mike into the trash cans and playing it off as an accident; a typical display of defending territory dating back to childhood hierarchy on the playground.
What Tommy Wiseau is trying to demonstrate with this scene is the established hierarchy of the four characters. Highlighting Johnny's position as a king of men who all clamber over each other for his approval only serves to make his ultimate downfall all the more tragic.
.......Or it's just a shit scene, but I don't know.

It's funny how this film makes so much more sense the more you watch it. I believe Mark purposefully injured Mike and then volunteered to take him to a nearby hospital just because he heard him talking about an "underwear issue". He most likely thought out of paranoia that he knows something about his affair with Lisa so he took the opportunity to question him. A scene that first felt like it was completely and utterly pointless but it actually is relevant for the storyline. Also, the scene where Johnny asks Mark about his sex life, he was probably starting to finally suspect that his fiancee is cheating with his best friend.

That's also why Mike has no lines after this scene and is completely silent during the birthday party. He's terrified of Mark. And for a good reason since Peter almost met a gruesome demise for finding out about Mark's secret. Could Mark have finished off from where he left off and that's the real reason why Peter is absent in the party? I know this is a case of "Real life writes the plot" since Kyle Vogt left the set after the tuxedo football sequence but in-universe this is still somewhat relevant. Steven is probably the one he told about Mark's secret before his supposed demise which is why he was smart enough to come back inside during the party and catch Mark and Lisa making out.

Of all the "WTF" moments in this film, which are countless, Mike plowing into the trash cans for basically no reason was the best one (to me).
Mine was how just a couple of minutes before that, Mike insists on telling the story of how he left his underwear behind in Tommy's apartment as some sort of big to-do. Plus the fact that Mike and his girlfriend seem to regularly sneak into Tommy's apartment to have sex on Tommy's couch.
Theres a reason why this scene is seen. Its to show Mark projecting his hatred of himself for cheating with Lisa, onto .. Whoever this guys name is lol oh hai mark

This scene brings me to tears. Not because it's funny, but because it's accidentally such a masterpiece. It literally distracts you from everything else and you can't help but wonder, " What the fuck was he thinking?"
There's so much bad about this that it's truly impressive that it's in a movie. The music, the transitions in the music, the dialogue, the acting, the football, the laughing, the set, the loud trash cans, the reactions from the actors...I don't know how they got all of this wrong.
By far the best scene in the movie. "That's life" plus the push...legendary.

The unnatural manner in which johnny turns around to react when mike calls him. The way johnny reacts to mike telling him that he just had sex at HIS house "you must be kidding haha underwear, I got the picture. that's life".
How mark awkwardly enters the scene and only says what's up to danny first and then the rest of them. God knows how mark even accidentally knocks mike over.
This scene is just one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

You guys don't understand. Mike is a pretty athletic guy, as you can see from his skills with the football. When he fell after Mark barely touched him, it's to show how strong Mark is and, by conclusion, how brave Johnny is for confronting him later on.

Mike’s having a rough day. An old lady pulls his underwear out from his pocket, embarrassing him in front of everyone, and then he falls over like a clumsy idiot when Mark barely touches him. Hopefully making out with Michelle can turn this day around for him.
For those who have read "The Disaster Artist", this scene makes me so sad. For those who don't know, this scene as uninteresting to the plot as it may be, meant so much to Tommy Wisau as it shows him being young and having a fun life with friends. Just comes to show how lonely the guy was and how this movie, as bad as it is, gave him a chance to play a happy guy with money, a girlfriend and friends.
yeah, right at the end of the chapter. it made me sad too. looking at the scene through the monitor like he's looking at a happier version of his life.
Alkiviadisman Tommy Wiseau tried to live out the live he couldn't have through a movie, how depressing.
It's really depressing, but remember, Tommy's need to have friends and feel like an important person brings out not only his best, his caring side, but also his worst, his manipulative tendencies, his habitual, almost pathological lying, and some of his more controlling, abusive tendencies too. It's still sad though, but his sadness doesn't justify the way he has treated some people.

Most underrated scene in the movie. So many bizarre moments in 2 minutes. Much funnier than "You're tearing me apart Lisa"
The first time I saw this, I assumed I had missed a scene where Mike had slashed Mark's tires or something. Nope. It was meant to be a 'friendly' shove, and that makes it so much better.
