I made the Mii Channel but for Pixel Art

I made a demake of the classic Mii Channel from the Wii!
You can create characters by selecting each body part, and export to both JSON and as PNG frames of a 4 way walk cycle, to use however you see fit!
Thanks to HEYimHeroic for helping out with this video. You can find all their stuff here: www.heyimhero.icu/ Игры
This is sick. Wasn’t expecting to see the Mii Expert here, but that just makes it more legit, well done.
One option I’d like to see if you ever update it is to switch between the actual Mii Channel assets for the menus, that way it’s easier to recreate Miis into this accurately. But overall well done
I hope this video blows up! This is an awesome tool you've made that could help a lot of people.
Fellow Procreate pixel artist, nice! I actually got recommended this while I was working on mock-up sprite sheets I was making for Ed Edd n' Eddy Rétro Future*. I make both pixel and hand drawn artwork, and I personally find sprite sheet animations to involve even more editing off pre-made assortments than usual, which makes sense fundamentally considering how much easier it is to transpose in a drawing medium that's so-precise so-often. Procreate is so useful for that, I think, even if it's technically not as optimized as programs made specifically _for_ pixel art.
Speaking of that, I didn't know automatic bevel tools were a thing in other art programs. But hey, Procreate allows easy auto-beveling by just having Add and Subtract clone layers, as I've found through my own experimenting a couple years ago, and abused in Y2K/Frutiger Aero/skeuomorphic/whatever-inspired art since.
(*I don't plan on making a full-on game to accompany said fanseries, maybe a Scratch or RPG Maker side-gig at most, it's all just for fun basically. Also something to do with the "so retro!!!" meme that partially inspired its name, outside of it literally being a Y2K Retrofuturism AU. -Sorry, I got off-topic again...)
I know there’s better options out there for pixel animation, but it’s just a comfort and familiarity thing at this point I guess. If I end up doing something more ambitious I might have another look, but for now it’s a good balance of features, and I like their business model more than some of the alternatives on iOS.
Good luck with your project!
I ain’t readin allat
It would be so cool if there was some way to have other games be able to connect to this and use the avatars created here in other games. You'd just have to call them something other than miis and change the ui to be less wii like.
Post your pixel mii names, descriptions, and code below me if you wish to make them public
The 3ds can convert miis to qr codes
If you can recompile the qr code data you might be able to implement conversion that way
Not a bad idea but ultimately I think it still requires me to process the same (or similar) data, the qr code is mostly just a display thing (which now you mention it would be very useful for sharing!)
HEYimHeroic was recommending something called Kaitais? Which apparently make parsing binary data like the Mii format easier, so I'll probably go with that when I get around to updating things.
ok. if you really wanted to go all out with customization, why not be able to customize the shirt too? make up for the lack of noses.
I WANNA PUT HOODIES ON MY CHARACTER, DAMN IT!
Ha, I think my thought process was that whatever game you loaded this into could create its own version of the body, taking into account the favorite color.
But you’re right, for outputting the sprites on their own more options might be nice and something I should look into.
awesome video!!! it's a really cool idea to make a little fun project to make some later stuff for other projects easier. always a fun time
Your videos are so relaxing and informative ^_^
I think if you selected a sprite, turned off filter, and set it as default, you wouldn't have to upscale the sprites only to scale them back down for a better image
That would work great for keeping the pixels sharp for sure, but in this case I wanted things to blur out just a little bit so that sprites wouldn't look too misshapen, and have a better transition between sizes.
It was a bit of a weird compromise honestly and keeping the filter worked out best for this instance I think.
Hey Zyiah! Nice to see you here!

This is great!
This is so cool!
Awesome Work !!
Was directed this video from the suggestions of an unrelated Kid Leaves Stoop rewatch. I hope that's a sign that this blows up.
Such a high quality video. The concept itself is a great example of an artist working smarter-not-harder _without_ resorting to downright cheating, which I highly appreciate and can relate to finding personal achievement(in whatever way it occurs) in.
I try to make things quickly, while hitting a sweet spot in terms of quality and corners cut along the way. It’s a fun exercise trying not to get bogged down in some of the details which might not add all that much to the final result!
Was directed straight from recommendations, but the video above was “Trying to reason with AI bro”
Vids so high quality. Gosshhhh
oh god that oblivion clip and how every npc is literally a doughy pile of garbage haunted me
I like this, reminds me of the Stardew Valley creator!
LETS GOOOO
YOU GOAT!!!!
72 different hairstyles omg @.@
Hey! love the content, your art looks great, just want to know, what procreate brush do you use for the pixel art? :D
Thanks! It’s a custom brush, but any one of the many pixel brush tutorials on youtube will have you making the same thing. It’s a pretty quick task to put it together.
Sorry I can’t be more specific, it’s been a while, but know that they’re all the same.
Now make it so that it includes the switch Mii Editor features
I'm joking, great vid!
Wait a second how do you do pixel art on procreate?
You need to set up a custom brush for it. If you search for Procreate pixel brush tutorials on here you'll get a bunch of guides that will all get you the same thing!
@@captkuso ok cool
Cool vid bro bur how do you Access it
Thanks! It’s right here: captkuso.itch.io/mii-channel-demake
