Grant, I love this video! My husband and I celebrated 20 years on the Getaway 2 months ago, and the buffet did not disappoint! We loved the Indian offerings and the crepe station, but my favorite offering was called volkornbrot. On several cruises, when they offer sweet and Sour soup, I grab a large bowl from the noodle station and put some sweet and sour soup in it. Then I go over to the Asian food section an add some chicken or beef and vegetables. One could also put some of the noodles in the bowl and any of the other ingredients before you add the soup and any of the other Asian goodies that might be available at the buffet. It is delicious and people often stop and ask me where I found that, it looks so good.

Thank you for your helpful videos. Celebrated our 49th Wedding Anniversary Jan 2023... chose NCL Encore .. first time w/ NCL.. In the past, Cruised with RC, Carnival, Princess. NCL .. Encore .. beautiful ship. Nice Caribbean ports, staff were helpful, friendly .. always with a smile.
At the Garden buffet for breakfast, lunch and 2x of dinner ... great and delicious n variety of dishes n satisfying.. French Toast, w/ banana n strawberry sauce, eggs benedict, Tom Yum Soup.
Oh yes, Their Indian food was excellent, full of taste and flavor and the variety .. was superb. Every time we had a chance .. Indian food was our choice. Buffet desserts .. were tasty and beautifully presented .. well displayed on this glass cabinet n great varieties each day... they even had Cassava cake !! Better than I had from home, California. Love the layout of the buffet .. makes for less congestion. Yes, the singing Coffee girls in the morning .. were great touch. Very impressed of Encore .. we have NCL fever.
Loved the dishes also served at the Manhattan Room ... delicious, tasty and plate presentation was great. The Manhattan room was beautiful and elegant. The Crew was wonderful, attentive, helpful, friendly and great service.
Can you tell me abt NCL Jade..we know it’s smaller ship than Encore .. any thoughts .. food, shows entertainment? Indian food served? We watched your videos before our trip Jan 2023 .. very helpful.

Thank you for talking about the benefits of the buffet. It is often overlooked as a good dining option. When my husband was a vegetarian who loves Asian food, the buffet was his favorite venue. With cruise buffets, I *always* go in with a strategy, as food is the most important part of cruising for me. I won't waste my time on things I can ordinarily get on land, but instead go straight for whatever is most creative or expensive. I don't let them make any money off of me. I eat like a 500 lb man trapped inside a 160 lb body. When I was on the Encore last year (first time cruising with NCL, BTW), the first thing I did before putting anything on my plate was scope out the entire buffet and chose only the things that looked most interesting to me. I voyaged to Cabo San Lucas with friends last year on Princess, and they had *Chateaubriand* - something I had never had before. You wanna talk expensive! Chateaubriand is a very expensive cut of beef indeed, and you'd better believe I went back for seconds and thirds of that!
Anyway, as far as NCL's buffet is concerned, I was very satisfied with the selection and quality. The Indian Food station was a very nice surprise, and the aromas coming out of that part of the buffet were INTOXICATING. I could not keep myself away from that part of the buffet. What I loved most about the Encore as a ship is the fact that you don't have to actually go to the buffet to eat buffet items because there is another buffet inside the Observation Lounge. The buffet inside the Observation Lounge, while still huge, doesn't have everything the main buffet does, but I found it was a splendid place to get breakfast and enjoy the spectacular views while having breakfast.

Hi Grant, I was not overly impressed with Getaway's buffet, where I ate at least one breakfast, lunch and dinner. I agree that the crepe station is really good. They need someone's grandma's sausage gravy recipe (and biscuits) for breakfast, I don't know what you call that stuff they serve instead. A sandwich station (like a Subway) would be awesome for lunch - pop in, grab a sandwich and go, instead of walking the entire buffet for ingredients to make your own. Dinner was odd, turkey (or chicken?) gravy next to the carving station serving roast beef. Things just seemed scattered in an odd order. What's your recommendation for the smallest NCL ships, please? Your videos are very informative.

I just returned from an 8 day cruise on the NCL Getaway from NYC to Bahamas. I resisted the buffet until mid cruise as I just loved the service and ambiance of Savor and Taste. I am also skittish about all those hands touching the serving utensils, which I'm surprised the cruise lines allow that. There was a hand washing station, but I was one of few using it. I used a piece of toweling around my hand to grab the utensils. I did try the buffet finally on Wednesday and I have to admit it was fantastic. I had Friday dinner there and I had one of the best pieces of prime rib I ever had! Yes, Prime Rib at the carving station. I just didn't feel like heading down to Deck 6. I saw the soup station, but I was afraid that the pho would not live up to Toronto standards, so I avoided it. I'll try it next time. The afternoon snacks (scones, cakes, cookies) were very good and also the selection of Stash teas. The Getaway was back to full capacity and despite the crowds, we were always able to get a seat in the Garden Cafe.

If you don’t like spicy food, then some mild Indian dishes that you might enjoy include korma, butter chicken and pasanda. All of those are aromatic and creamy rather than spicy. Naan breads are also really good and often come in many varieties including plain, garlic, and keema (with mince meat). Pilau rice is my favourite but they do other variations including plain. Vegetable or meat samosas are also tasty and not typically very spicy.

@@CruisewithGrant sorry, as I just avoided eating at the buffet unless it was breakfast or fruit or salad or something where they were making it right there in front of me and I could ask if they used MSG. Italian dishes often don’t need MSG to enhance the flavor, except pizza often has it in the sausage. I did ok eating pizza at one of the included restaurants that had it by the slice. And like I said, I knew in the MDR or a specialty restaurant (We did Chops Steak house on Mariner of the Seas) I felt that it was easier to ask about ingredients or request it be left out. On my NCL cruise in Jan. 2024 I will try to ask more about MSG in the savory dishes at the buffet, especially those with chicken.
