That guy seems like a pretty cool person. I'm sure most homeless people have great stories to tell about their life... Thanks for posting this video series! I'm a Texan, though not from Austin
You know, I really admire this guy. He's not the best guitar player, or the best harmonica player, or the best singer. But he's doing what he loves: Playing music. He's really quite brave to have given up all his belongings and set out on the road. And to have been given 15 years for stealing a $150 guitar, to have not had a home or family, to have "dropped out of society" for 30 years, and to still have a sense of humor and optimism; That's beautiful. I hope I turn out half as good as this guy.
I have been homeless several times. I had to sell myself to get out of it, and had to leave the USA altogether. I dropped out. I work honestly. I carry on. I miss my home.
Great video, nice music. Thanks for the insight. You know some people choose this life, it may be rough and tumble but it's also laid back as you'd have no nearly one to answer to (no boss, wife, errands, etc).
@Dovenpeis The reason why tent cities don't exist in Denmark is due to the small amount of homeless people (in absolute terms). The need for shelter is easily covered by the few shelters around Copenhagen, for instance. The amount of shelters per city is not linear in proportion with the population.
My reply is for his 10 year sentence, he said he had 3 misters before the felony, a judge will see a first offense, then the 2nd and then the 3rd and in sequence seeing each one getting worse well when #4 comes around that is for certain a pattern that is getting worse. My guess is it would have escalated and hence the harsh sentence. Nobody's fault but his own.
I'm really discovering a fascination that I have for the homeless here in Austin and this video only feeds it. I've seen this man a couple of times and he shows up in the video I've attached too. A note on your production: It's a little bland, just using standard WMM items. Try spicing it up a bit, I use the same program if you'd like an example.
Yesterday, I was kinda bored and I got my paycheck from A&W so I bought 4 mozza burgers and fed them to homeless people under a bridge in Peachland, BC, Canada. I felt awesome.
im going to say wow, thats a long time to be homeless. you know when your by your self its not so bad because you only have to worry about you.but its different when have children being homeless.
Well, it gives you a direct media link, intead of putting it in a player, but if you know a little HTML it's pretty easy to embed it. As far as who watches it, well, it's not so popular. I was hoping it was going to explode when I first joined back in june, but no such luck.
I agree. I always thought that Europe didn't have these issues, but when I went there, I was shocked at the homelessness and poverty...the problem is that many Europeans don't see people of color as "people" . So when a poor black man would walk by, they would just say that he was an immigrant....He's NOT an immigrant, he's a human being.
@lmbg77 Yes your observations are spot on, he will not take responsibility for his situation. I bet if you asked a homeless person who was to blame for their current situation.......most would say the same thing this guy did.
Yeah, mine is only a consumer camcorder too, a sony hc21. I also use windows movie maker and while it might not seem like much, you can get some pretty classy results out of it. For a hobbyist, such as myself and I assume you, it's not that bad. As far as the 16:9 goes, you can try www.ourmedia.org. It streams the native files instead of a converted flash file. Much better for keeping stuff the way it was meant to be, but you're not likely to get much feedback. continued...
@Dovenpeis To me prosperity is being able to take care of yourself. No amount of public housing is ever going to change that. Most people is public housing aren't happy with their situation. They don't want to live the life that they're living. They're poor, no matter how you cut it.
THis guy is not the truth desperate homeless. He is homeless by choice with no children. The saddest is the homeless families. Oh God, that is the truly sad.
@Dovenpeis Having access to free public housing does not make one less poor. You'd be surprised that the homelessness rate in Denmark is as high as in the US (it is estimated, as none of the two countries does official countings). BTW. almost everyone in Denmark is on welfare. As soon as you have kids you're entitled to monthly welfare checks. BTW. this is not an endorsement of that system. It's downright disgusting.
@Dovenpeis Let me take you through the danish system of entitlements. Starting from the age of 15 you are entitled to education support, if you attend high school or college. The amount you get paid range from about $200 to $1,000 a month tax free. If you're out of work you are entitled to insane unemployment benefits. If you have kids, you are entitled to public child support. At the age of 65 you enter the stage of public pension entitlements. Not enough working people to cover the freeloaders
Cause its cheaper and better for society... What you said there, is exactly whats wrong with your country. NO FREE EDUCATION...and the narrow mind. I get the " we need to feel justice part" BUT... if you dont solve the problem, it will just keep on biting you in the ass. Some criminals/prisoners are out out reach for sure.. but lets face it...15/10 years for this, that's just brutal. Hard sentence like this probably ruined more lifes than it corrected. Ps.I love America and the american people, but you have a lot of shit to straighten out. Peace.
@Dovenpeis Well, I'm not a repuke nor a libertarian. I'm just stating a fact that paris was burning because of the disenfranchisement of a huge portion of France's working citizens who got working "papiers" but little chance of gaining citizenship. Thus, Frence like many European countries has basically created a permenant underclass that has filled the suburbs of PAris and Lyons..
@Dovenpeis And Devon, your little quote "We just don't see them as our people." Speaks volumes.... So only white Europeans are your people..... I am so lucky to come from a family of native-americans, hispanics, anglos, french, Jews, and Koreans, spanish.....Pretty much everyone is my people.....It's called the human race.
@ChallengeDK Oh well, the earthly conclusion would have been that the few shelters around Copenhagen are enough to prevent tent cities because there simply aren't that many homeless people in Denmark at all (in relative terms to the US). But sure, I know extraterrestrial libertarians have a hard time coping with the reality of planet earth, so I understand.
choosing to camp the way he does is dangerous. the threat of other homeless assaulting you, sickness, disease is worth the price of admission to a life of liesure, not comfort mind you but yes, liesure cause you don't work. you eat the free food, get the free clinic, drink, use drugs, hang out with homeless friends and have your own little clique. you belong. he's a part of something and won't give it up for what we deem normal.
Funny, then, that the poverty rate in the UK is higher than in the US - the same goes for places like Denmark. I'm not saying poverty and homelessness in America is not a problem, but you should tell the truth (or at least make an effort to do so) when commenting on it.
you know markv33. whether you believe it or not, that could easily be you. there are alot of good things in your life that you take for granted and the next day, it can all be gone because of life's unexpected twists and turns. don't judge the man. you don't know him and his situation.
@Travieso78702 I think you are being ridiculous for criticizing European peoples for not seeing the whole world as their people. That is a rejection of the anthropological reality all together. And for the record Europeans are white by definition. Defining an African in Europe as a European is a ridiculous notion that neither Africans nor Europeans share. And white is actually a meaningless word in a European context. For instance I don't see the French as my people just because they are white.
I know this guy he gets A 2800 a month disability check and food stamps. He's in too check to give up 30 percent for government housing . He sucks as a musician
@ChallengeDK You are simply not as poor with access to public housing, health care and welfare checks as living on the streets with private charity as your only relief. In the real world that is, but your problem is obviously that you are out of touch with real life. Which is further emphasised by your ludicrous notion of taking care of oneself in a society with division of labour. BTW, it seems to me that Denmark has a great welfare state and is much closer than the US of being a fair society.
@ChallengeDK Denmark has a higher poverty rate than the US? Where did you get that statistic from? The local libertarian propaganda machine? I know for a fact that in Denmark this guy would have had access to both an apartment, health care and a welfare check of quiet a bit more than he gets from begging in the streets of America. Now you tell me exactly how a welfare state like Denmark can have more of an issue with poverty than a non-welfare state like the US? It simply does not compute!
@Travieso78702 I couldn't agree more with you that France and all the other Western-European countries made a serious mistake by opening up for mass immigration from third world countries, and that we are paying the price for our mistake now, big time. But the question is what do you do when your multiculturalist ideology crash and burn? Do you try redoing the landscape when it doesn't fit your ideological map? You do, don't you?
The ludicrousness of your statement is its untruthfulness. I know being an extraterrestrial libertarian makes it difficult to cope with real life here on earth, but there is actually a reason why tent cities is a wide spread phenomenon in the US while they don't even exist in Denmark. I'll give you a hint; it's not the climate difference. And not understanding why taking care of oneself is a ludicrous notion in a society with division of labour I will ascribe to the extraterrestrial part too.
@Dovenpeis THe biggest mistake Europe made wasn't any immigration policy but 500 years of coloialism and racism. Devonpeis. Payback is a -----.....Ciao. I'm not really interested in discussing this further with you.
@Dovenpeis What does it help when the estimated homelessness rate is just as high in Denmark as in the US? Can you please explain to me the ludicrousness of my statement? I think it's a perfectly fair assumption given the society we are presented with, namely a capitalist one that builds upon labor as part its core Fair? We're broke! You socialists have no idea of managing your failed ideologies! Even the wealthiest person in the country is receiving public welfare. That, my friend, is ludicrous
That guy seems like a pretty cool person. I'm sure most homeless people have great stories to tell about their life... Thanks for posting this video series! I'm a Texan, though not from Austin
Respect mate. He is a legend.
Awesome! God bless you, man!
Thank you so much for this.

I have been homeless several times. I had to sell myself to get out of it, and had to leave the USA altogether. I dropped out. I work honestly. I carry on. I miss my home.
AMEN TO THAT!!
Great video, nice music. Thanks for the insight. You know some people choose this life, it may be rough and tumble but it's also laid back as you'd have no nearly one to answer to (no boss, wife, errands, etc).
Yhis guy is good ,he should be on stage.
If i was in charge of a record company i would strike a deal with this man!!! He is just as talented as will nelson.
j adore....un artiste a part entière;-)

If I said this is what I want to be when I grow up people wouldn't understand.
There is a song called " this world is not my home".
If you think this world is your home you're kidding yourself
wow
im going to say wow, thats a long time to be homeless. you know when your by your self its not so bad because you only have to worry about you.but its different when have children being homeless.

Take a look at this video. I did everything with the exception of the music editing within movie maker.
this guy should play some blues guitar in bars and shit he is good

15 years for a guitar ?
I'd like to buy this guy a big steak and have a beer with him. Non-alcoholic of course!
